Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church!

It is a blessing to have you join our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 5th Sunday of Lent. Know you enrich our gathering through your

presence and prayerful participation. Thanks for being with us! Today’s Scripture readings share the theme of “life after death.” The Prophet Ezekiel speaks of the Lord God “opening your graves.” “You will rise from them,” says the Lord God. The Lord God makes a promise, “O my people! I will put my spirit in you that you may live.” The Lord will do what He says! Paul, in his Letter to the Romans, speaks of “the body being dead because of sin.” Paul goes on to say that we are alive in “the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead.” The Spirit of Christ will give life to our mortal bodies. In Christ we look beyond death to resurrection and life. Jesus, in today’s Gospel refers to Lazarus as being asleep, not dead. Yet we know Lazarus has died and “in the tomb for four days.” Jesus says, “I am going to awaken him.” He comes to the tomb and prays to the Father. Jesus prays that those who witness the dead Lazarus coming out of the tomb “may believe that you (the Father) sent me.” In the midst of this sign, Martha testifies to her belief in the resurrection, “Yes, Lord, I have come to believe…” Martha believes that whoever believes in Christ, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in Christ will never die. We are to listen to the testimony of the Prophet Ezekiel, St. Paul, Martha and Jesus in affirming our faith in Jesus’ promise of new life. May this Good News comfort our spirit! This Thursday, we will celebrate our Lenten Penance Service at 7:00pm in Church. I invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to experience the Lord’s Mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Hope you can join us this Saturday morning as Fr. Mark Hushen will guide us in the spirituality of St. Francis de Sales. We begin with the 8:30am Liturgy, with Fr. Hushen as Celebrant and Preacher, and continue in

Everett Hall until 12:00noon. Be well! God bless, Fr. McKee

INSPIRING THOUGHTS OF POPE FRANCIS Jesus’ act of raising

Lazarus shows the extent to which the power of

God’s grace can go, and, thus, the extent of our

conversion, our transformation. Listen

carefully: there is no limit to the divine mercy offered to everyone.
