Steve Dainard comes from a second-generation dog show family. He began showing dogs in the late 1970’s. His family started with Flat Coated Retrievers and later found their breed of choice - the English Springer Spaniel. Steve and his wife Kelly, bred under the ‘KAS’ prefix. He has shown Springers to the top winning male in Canadian history, as well number one all breed status. ‘KAS’ also bred and exhibited the top winning Springer female in Canadian history. In 2014, he had the honour of judging the ESSFTA National Specialty and in 2018 he will judge for the first time at the Westminster Kennel Club. Steve was an all breed handler specializing in Sporting and Herding dogs. He has also owned and bred Australian Shepherds. Steve’s passion is for online judge’s education and works with a fellow all-breed judge on a platform called Judges Without Borders. He has served terms on the executive of the Canadian Dog Judges Association managing programs and education as well as Treasurer. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Entrepreneurial Management. Steve is licensed as an All-Breed judge with the Canadian Kennel Club and has judged in Canada, the U.S.A., Mexico, Australia, South Korea, China, Colombia and Ecuador. In his professional life he is a retired Manager with the Toronto Transit Commission in Administration and Financial Control and started his second career as a Mortgage Professional in 2014 with the professional designation of Accredited Mortgage Professional. In his personal life, Steve and his wife Kelly have three grown children and live in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
As the third generation of dog show enthusiasts, it seemed only natural that as soon as I was old enough I was hooked and began the search for a breed of my own. I became very enthralled with an uncle’s pet Scottie and in 1967 I was surprised with a Scottie of my own. She was a lovely little bitch with a reputable pedigree but she lacked what was needed for the show ring. It didn’t stop us though. We practiced and practiced and eventually discovered the world of Junior Handling and began to master hand stripping. In the early 70’s I began the search for a bitch that would be competitive in the ring and hopefully be the foundation for a line of Scotties. Eventually, we connected with Darle and Art LaMontagne of Beinnein Kennels. This fortuitous inquiry led not only to a pretty little black bitch joining the house but to a friendship which continues even now. Over the years, “MacIffen” Scotties has owned, bred, and exhibited some top winning Scotties . I have co bred extensively with Darle Heck of Beinnein Kennels.. I have even ventured into the obedience ring upon occasion , only to come crashing back to earth. The Scotties would gladly do as they had been trained, if it suited them. Over the years, many other breeds have shared the household with my beloved Scotties. I have shown and groomed many of the breeds in the Terrier group before deciding in the 1990s to apply for my judge’s license. Unfortunately, family circumstances put my judging career on hold for a few years while I took time out to raise my family. In my other world, I graduated from the University of Alberta in 1980 with a Bachelor of Education. I taught many grade levels with Sturgeon School Division, specializing in Special Needs students, until my retirement a few years ago. I am thoroughly enjoying my retirement years, spending time with friends, family, and the “furkids”. I also am an active volunteer with Edmonton’s homeless population. My 2 children are grown and on their own. Both of them grew up as “dog show kids” and were very successful Junior Handlers.

I have been in purebred dogs for 49 years and as a judge for 27. Pugs are my original breed and I still have them today. I have judged all over the world and enjoyed every assignment. I have owned and shown many breeds as a professional handler for over a decade. Dogs are a huge part of my life along with family and friends.
Wendy originally owned Rough Collies and now owns and breeds Golden Retrievers, Flat-coated Retrievers, Schipperke and Barbet under the Butterblac prefix. She is active in several All-Breed Clubs where she has held a number of Executive positions including Director, Chief Ring Steward, Treasurer and President. She also ring stewards and teaches Conformation Show Handling classes with her husband All Breeds Judge Doug Windsor. She has also served as Show Chair on all Breed and Speciality clubs and is a member of a number of breed and speciality clubs. Currently licensed for six Groups and on permit for Group 4 (Terriers). She has judged in Canada, the U.S, Costa Rica, Mexico, Japan, Colombia and Australia. Butterblac Retrievers have produced over 150 Canadian Champions and over 80 dogs who have been awarded American Championships.
I have owned pure bred dogs since I was ten years old (Boxers and American Cockers). I obtained my first Golden Retriever in 1971 and followed that with a Flat-coated Retriever in 1975 and a Belgian Shepherd Dog in 1980. I have bred over 100 litters of Goldens and Flat-coats and several litters of Belgian Shepherd Dogs, producing well over 150 Canadian Champions and 80 American Champions. I have also bred Champion Schipperke and Barbet. I have bred Best in Show winners in Golden and Flat-coated Retrievers and my Flat-coats have been #1 in Canada for sixteen different years. I have also owned a number of Obedience and Agility Champions as well as AKC MACH holders in two breeds. I began judging in 1984 and became an All Breeds judge in 1996. I have judged in Australia, New Zealand, China, Venezuela, Colombia, Costa Rica, Japan, Argentina and throughout the United States and Canada. I am a CKC Master Breeder, a CKC International Master Breeder and an AKC Breeder of Merit in Belgian Tervuren, an AKC Bronze Breeder of Merit (Golden Retrievers) and an AKC Silver Breeder of Merit (Flat-coated Retrievers).
Dr. Udenberg has been involved in the sport of exhibiting dogs for nearly thirty years, starting with Dobermans. After a short hiatus, he returned with Standard Poodles and eventually included Toy Poodles. He has been breeding Standard Poodles for over twenty five years with the prefix “Tees” of Tees Blue Skies. He has had multiple Best In Show and Best in Specialty winners including several top 10 dogs, but his love is exhibiting the young specimens of his breed. Dr. Udenberg has judged in Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand many times and frequently presents seminars in many subjects including; “The Physics of Center of Gravity in Conformation and Movement; Canine Reproduction; and in Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome. Most recently he gave seminars in both New Zealand and in Australia to the Dogs Judges Associations as their key note speaker. He was a member of the Health Committee for the Pekingese Club of America. Dr. Udenberg was invited to speak at the National Pekingese Club of Great Britain (on airway research) as an expert Terill Udenberg

I started in obedience in the mid 70’s in Regina with a Miniature Poodle. After moving to the west coast in 1977, Karen and I gravitated to American Cockers which are still our number one love in dogs. We have been members of the North Saanich Dog Obedience Training Club (NOSA) since the mid 80’s, actively involved in trialing, teaching classes at all levels (including rally) and holding various executive positions including trials chair and trials secretary. Since my retirement, I have become more active in judging and I am currently licensed to judge obedience and rally at all levels for the Canadian Kennel Club and the Association of Island Obedience Clubs.

I started obedience training out of necessity. In 1991, my wife Audrey and I bought our first show dog puppy. The puppy was a sweet but ill-mannered English Springer Spaniel named Cruiser. In short, he was aptly named, as in “Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’." He was quite a handful, and I was just about ready to return him back to the breeder when I decided to enroll in an obedience class. One thing led to the next and soon Cruiser and I were competing in obedience. Cruiser never became a great competitor, and people did not think of him as being particularly well-trained. He barely squeaked out a CDX title, and he was more interested in lifting his leg on utility articles than retrieving them. However, through dog training I fell in love with Cruiser and the sport of dog obedience. Cruiser became a particularly close companion to me and he went everywhere with me. To me, the special bond I forged with Cruiser and my dogs is the best part of dog training. I love seeing this bond between a dog and handler in the ring. Since Cruiser, I have trained many English Springer Spaniels to obedience and rally titles. One was Cybil, Am OTCH Gold Mountain's Moonlighting UDX2 RE, who won the US Pepperoni Western Regional Novice Division in 1997. Cybil also won the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association's Obedience Springer of the Year in 1999 and competed at the AKC National Obedience Invitational in 2000 and 2001. I started judging in 2001 and enjoy judging obedience and rally at all dog events. I am active in the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association (ESSFTA), the AKC Parent Club of the Breed, and have served on the Board of Governors and as Vice President. I am honored and delighted to be judging at your show. Have fun!
