I was born in a small town in the southwest of China. People there did not suffer a lot from war. But the war and large population caused hunger and poverty.

People eat together & work together

School TimeSchool Time“Sishu” was the popular school. My father hired a private teacher to me and my brothers and sisters at home.

We used brush pen to write everything.

The most exciting thing to do: watching “outdoor” movies. People would bring their own chairs or they would just sit on the ground. Most of the movies were about wars and opera.

When we play “War Games” , we used wood guns as weapon, wore grass and tree branch on our heads as cover.

We also had other options to play

We used a big speaker that was hanging on a tall tree to announce everything that was going to happen. An announcer is sitting in the broadcasting room and reading new information.

In order to introduce new technologies, I asked people from ChangHong to have a TV show in his town and encouraged people to buy.

Lots of people cannot afford a TV, the ChangHong TV factory donated some for the entertainment center of the town. And people came to the entertainment room to watch TV every day

We can also read books, newspapers, play Ping Pong in entertainment room.

Unlike grandpa, my generation is called a “TV generation”, and we use computers a lot .

We also play “war games”, but it’s on computer. We also watch movies, listen to music online…

This is where we watch movies. We have lots of options and it’s very comfortable sitting there.

Present Present This was my middle school, see kid at school are having computer class

Technology is everywhere in our life.

This is the nation widely used online chatting tool QQ , even my dad, my uncles and aunties are all using it.

We also use “Xiaonei”----Chinese version of “facebook” to stay in touch with our friends.

In office, computers are widely used to record and process data

Then, how about Grandpa Sun’s life now?

His opinions to those new technologies?

Guess what?

He likes them!

I’m trying to adapt to the technologies now......sometimes I really had fun with it

Present Present My wife and I are arguing about who should be the first to play computer games.

I make phone calls to friends and family on holidays. Sometimes, I make phone calls to ask my grandchildren to spend weekends with me. I also make phone calls to organizetrips among my friends.

Using this, I can have lots of opportunities to talk with his grandson and granddaughter. They both go to universities that are far away from home.

My generation use a lot of technologies in life, but you didn’t use them when you were young.

Wow! Grandpa, our lifestyles are so different.

As time went by, there are so many differences happened in

China.

People’s life styles changed a lot.

Technology is playing a more and more important role in everyone’s life.

For senior citizens, they did not touch technologies until recently.

They make use of it, as well as keep their traditional life style.
