Augusta graduated from Woolgoolga High School in 1996
and has an outstanding career spanning many different
jobs in the creative industry sector. Currently she is the
Senior Manager of Engagement Partnerships and Develop-
ment at Create NSW helping development of the per-
forming arts in drama and on screen.
Augusta spoke at length to both Year 11 and year 12 stu-
dents providing an engaging interactive and down to earth
presentation that inspired many of our students.
Augusta is an amazing person and Woolgoolga High
School is proud to recognise her as one of our graduates.
The inter-agency BBQ was well supported by a large num-
ber of hungry students. The entertainment was also a
highlight. I would like to thank Headspace, The Wesley
Mission, ETC and Momento for providing a free BBQ to
highlight the work that each of these organisations do in
supporting our students. Each of these organisations work
with our students on a regular basis, providing the much
needed support that is so essential in 2018 for some of
our students in need. Thank you. Thanks also to NORCO
for their sponsorship of this event.

Carnival last week.
Woolgoolga High School won the Zone Carnival on 537 points with Coffs Harbour High a close second on 529 points and Grafton High
coming in third place on 325 points.
It was a whole team effort by the Woolgoolga High School students with competitors contributing to the points score. Woolgoolga’s
dominance was especially evident in the relay events. Woolgoolga placed in the 3 teams out of 9 schools for all the relay events. Ten of
these relay teams have qualified for the North Coast Regional Carnival.
Woolgoolga’s 12 x 50m knockout relay (consisting of the 6 fastest girls and 6 fastest boys) and the following girls and boys relays are:
Boys relays: 12, 15, 17+, medley relay

Congratulations to Sheldon Koopmans (Yr 10) who accumu-
lated a massive 50 points for Woolgoolga High School in his

zone 16 boys age champion. Sheldon also swam in four re-
lays in which 3 have qualified for the next level.
Thanks to all the parents who came and supported the
Woolgoolga High School students.
Special mention to Mrs Bear and Mr Morgan for their expert
time keeping skills that they displayed for the whole day.

Year 10 Textiles students have been busy learning about and experimenting with creative fabric decoration techniques for their
patchwork cushion project.
The white calico fabric has been prepared and bound by various shibori techniques and dyed in a synthetic indigo vat.
The results are eye catching and the students have really enjoyed this new project opportunity.
Stay tuned for more progress photos of their works!

On Thursday 22nd February Woolgoolga High School participated in an Under 15s Touch football gala day. This gala day also doubled as the selections for the Mid North Coast Touch Football team.
UNDER 15 BOYS TEAM Our boys came up against a very slick Toormina side in the first pool game. Despite scoring the first try and playing well, Woolgoolga were beaten 6-1. They played Bellingen in the next game and dominated the valley side, win-ning with a convincing 7-2 score line. We then played Coffs High, the top team in Pool B, in a hard and fast game. Coffs eventually beat us 7-4 and then went on to play Toormina in the final. Toormina were too good for Coffs and beat them 6-2. This was a very similar margin to our game with Toormina so plenty of credit goes to the Wool-goolga boys. They played fairly and rotated on and off the field without issue. Congratulations to Ryley Smidt and Emanuel Sutton who were both selected in the Zone Team.
UNDER 15 GIRLS TEAM
The girls’ first game was against Toormina High School. The game was a fairly even match, but unfortunately
Woolgoolga lost 3-2 when Toormina scored right at the end of the game. Our second game was against Bellingen
High school. During this game the skill of the Woolgoolga girls really shone. The team worked well together in de-
fence to make it very difficult for Bellingen to score and they played well in attack to come away with an 8-2 win.
The next game was an exciting semi-final against Orara High School. The end result was a 3 all draw forcing the
girls into extra time. Woolgoolga played hard for the next 5 minutes attacking and defending with all the energy
they had left. At the end of the extra time the game still remained a draw, fortunately on a count back system
Woolgoolga had scored more points than Orara throughout all of the games, making them the winner and ad-
vancing them to the final.
In the final Woolgoolga faced off against Toormina High School for the second time. The game went from end to
end with both teams fighting for the win as hard as they could. The end result was a 1 all draw, forcing Woolgool-
ga to play yet another round of extra time. Fortunately for Woolgoolga this time they were able to score first and
then defend well enough to stop Toormina from scoring at all during the extra time. The final score was 2-1 to
Woolgoolga making the Woolgoolga under 15 girls the winner of the gala day.
A huge congratulations to all of the girls who played and a special mention to Shania King, Jesse Beresford,
Aheisha McPhillips and Emma Nelson who were selected for the Under 15s Mid North Coast Touch Football team.

Thursday March 8 was International Women’s Day. The staff at Woolgoolga High School wore purple clothing, or proudly wore Purple Ribbons like the one pictured, to show their support for Gender Equity.
The Colour of the Year 2018 is Ultra Violet. This colour communi-cates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future – where all boys, girls, men and women will be treated as equals!
The next newsletter will feature our Year 12 fe-male leaders representing Woolgoolga High School with pride at the International Women’s Day Breakfast in Coffs Harbour.

Dear Students, Parents and Staff Members,
Year 12 Students have decided to “Give Up” the traditional Easter Raffle and have committed to leading this Red Cross Charity Fundraiser, as they believe it is better to give than receive.
What will you GIVE UP to raise money for the Woolgoolga Red Cross Branch to keep their humanitarian efforts going? It should be meaningful, and challenging to achieve. We would like you, the community, to have the power to choose what you would like to give up, and for how long.
Once you have made your pledge, please ask your family and friends to sponsor you to honour your pledge, and monies raised will be collected and forwarded to Red Cross Woolgoolga on your behalf. All sponsorship forms and money must be returned to the school by Friday 23rd March 2018, so it is recommended that you limit your “Give it Up” time to 7 days or less.
Some Suggestions to get you thinking –
“I will GIVE UP Social Media for 5 days”
“I will GIVE UP Junk Food for 3 days”
“ I will GIVE UP watching videos / TV / Netflix for 7 days”
The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!
Parents – If you would like to be involved, please ask your children to obtain a sponsorship form on your behalf. We have several staff members interested in participating too – lets make this a genuine community effort!
Sponsorship forms will be issued next Monday during Assembly, so we can all make a difference in our local community.
Karen Dorahy – Year 12 Advisor

2018 University Roadshow
On the 20th February Woolgoolga High School hosted the 2018 University Roadshow. Representatives from Charles Sturt, Southern Cross and the University of New England spoke to more than 50 Year 12 students about university life, applying to university, early entry, UAC, scholarships, accommodation and much more.
This visit also focused on raising student awareness to many of the costs associated with university; such as rent, text books, transport, and the varied ways in which students can hope to pay these bills such as Centrelink, working and the generosity of their wonderful parents.
After the presentations, students were keen to patronise the three university stalls, collecting university hand-books, brochures and asking questions on an individual basis.
