» recreatIon scholarshIPs avaIlableYouth & Senior Recreation Scholarships are available through the Recreation Office for participation in City of Turlock Recreation Activities. Participants must be 18 years of age or under or 62 years of age and above, and have a Turlock address. Once approved, applicants may receive up to $75 for the fiscal year. For more information contact the Recreation Office.

Donations are being accepted for additional scholarships. Please contact the Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Office for more information.

Turlock Recreation is raising funds for youth scholar-ships through the SHARES Card and Raley’s Quality of Life Cards. A percent of every grocery dollar will support youth in Turlock and help them participate in safe and positive activities. » summer t-ball baseball Come out and play the game of baseball in a non-competitive atmosphere. Boys and girls 4 - 6 years can join a team and play 6 games of T-Ball against other children. This program is an introduction to baseball and is taught and played in a non-competitive format. No score is kept, all players are winners! All of our coaches are volunteers, if you want to coach give us a call. Players receive a t-shirt and replica major league hat. Pictures not included with registration.

» turlocK JuDoJudo is an Olympic Martial Art from Japan involving Judo throws plus groundwork like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. Through Judo students develop incredible balance, endurance, and timing. Students also learn respect, concentration, and the culture of Japan. Try it out for a month without a Gi (uniform) but thereafter a Gi allows learning Judo correctly which can be purchased at cost (price depending on age/size).

» P.l.a.Y. (PosItIve leIsure actIvItIes for Youth) What do we do with the kids after school? In this program, children will have time to complete homework daily, participate in a variety of fun activities and most importantly have a safe place to go after school. Sign-ups for the 2013/2014 school year begins July 1st. Register no later than Friday, August 9th to avoid programs being canceled. If the minimum number of participants has not been met by this date, the program will not be offered. The program meets Monday - Friday from the time school lets out until 6:00pm. Please contact the Recreation Office to see if your desired school still has openings. Join the fun! This program offers a variety of fun activities targeting children eligible for kindergarten– 2nd grade (2013/14 school year) in a day-camp atmosphere. Enrichment activities, educational games, arts, crafts, indoor / outdoor activities and swimming (starting June 17) will all be a part of this program. Please send your child with a morning and afternoon snack. If your child enrolls in morning swim lessons at Turlock High School, staff will escort him/her to and from the pool (staff will not stay at pool when child is in lesson).

starfish (Preschool)While creating a comfortable and safe environment in the water for 3 to 5 year olds, this level teaches students how to independently float, kick, and safely enter/exit the water. It also introduces arm movements and breath control.

seahorse (level 1)In this level, the instructors will build on the swimming foundations of 5 to 8 year old children. This level includes the development of independent floating, kicking, and forward movement.

Otter (level 2)The instructor will strengthen swim foundations by teaching the basics of freestyle and backstroke, side breathing, and body positioning. Child must have passed Seahorse level (Level 1).

Dolphin (level 3)This level will advance the swim strokes of freestyle and backstroke. The breaststroke and the butterfly kick are also introduced. Child must have passed Otter level (Level 2).

Whale (level 4)While this level will continue to build on the swim strokes of freestyle and backstroke, the instructors will also introduce breaststroke, treading, and safety strokes. Child must have passed Dolphin level (Level 3).

shark (level 5)The goal of this level is to master the advanced swim strokes of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. The instructor will refine the butterfly stroke and teach diving starts and flip turns. Child must have passed Whale level (Level 4).

Beg. swimmer (new level)This level is designed to teach basic swim foundations to 9 to 17 year olds. Upon passing this level, the child meets the requirements to participate in the Whale level (Level 4).

» JunIor lIfeGuarD I This training program is designed for those interested in learning how to respond in an aquatic emergency. This class serves as a foundation for further training and employment in lifeguarding and aquatics. » JunIor lIfeGuarD II This class will expand on the material from the Jr. Lifeguard I program. Participants will receive more advanced training in spinal injuries, first aid, CPR and develop fitness. » teen aDvIsorY councIl The Teen Advisory Council (TAC) wants to stress the importance of getting involved! TAC encourages teens to enrich their lives by volunteering their time. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, give back to your community and help others.

TAC is a diverse group of young people 7th – 12th grade, who are working together to make a difference in the community. Meetings are held the 4th Monday of every month, 6:00 – 7:00pm. Throughout the year, the Teen Advisory Council works diligently on planning, organizing and implementing activities in the Turlock Community.

Applications will be available at the Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Division Office June 3rd – August 23rd.

class transfers and/or late feesAny class changes will be charged an $8 transfer fee. After the class start date, all transfers will require instructor’s approval. If enrollment is being accepted after the class start date or registration date, a $5 late fee will be added to the class fee.

Wait list PolicyAnyone can be put on the waiting list for a class. If a customer withdraws from a class thus creating an open spot, the first person on the waiting list is called to accept or decline. Class spots are not held or reserved and are not finalized until payment is made. Waiting lists do not roll over.
