Wooster Memorial Park is the place to stop and smell the flowers/take pictures of spring wildflowers and whatever else is found. Hints to improve your pictures will be provided. Bring your camera and any additional equipment on Sunday, May 5th at 2:00PM and join this opportunity to learn more about photographing the natural world.

Wooster Memorial Park has a different collection of spring wildflowers come the middle of May. Join one of our resident botanists who will lead this walk on Sunday, May 19th at 2:00PM. This event will make you pleased to be at WMP.

Wooster Memorial Park will again be the place to enjoy the beauty of nature and to improve one’s skills with taking pictures of the smaller fauna and flora at the park. Join the group on Sunday, June 2nd at 2:00PM.

Wooster Memorial Park has interesting butterflies, along with other members of the insect world. Every August the Earth travels through the Perseid providing a wonderful opportunity to see meteor upon meteor streak across the sky. Wooster Memorial Park will host an evening and night of meteor watching at the Education Area. We will be calling in owls while we wait for the Perseid Meteor showers. What kind of owls and how many owls? It will be a surprise for all of us. Come about dark for the owls. Bring comfortable chairs or a blanket, some snacks, and patience. The viewing is better after midnight. Meet in the Education Area on Saturday, August 10th. The area will be open the entire night. If there are clouds or rain, this event will be held the following evening, Sunday, August 11th . If the weather is still cloudy or rainy we will meet on Monday, August 12th.

The prairie at Wooster Memorial Park is a sight to behold by mid-August. The flowers are blooming and it is spectacular. Join one of our resident botanists on Sunday, August 18th at 2:00PM as the flowers are identified and interesting information about the prairie is shared. This event begins in the Education Area.

The trees at Wooster Memorial Park are magnificent. The leader will help participants learn details about the trees in addition to indentifying them. Come out to Wooster Memorial Park on Saturday, August 24th at 10:00AM and enjoy learning more about our trees.

This year there are also a number of running events at Wooster Memorial Park. For details about these events check online at http://friendsofwmp.com. Water exercise is a great way to get the benefits of a fitness workout without the sweat and usual injury risks. It reduces the burden on stress-bearing joints and muscles making it less likely to cause injury or muscle soreness. Water exercise burns calories, builds cardio endurance; and increases muscle strength, flexibility and lung capacity. The movement of water against and over the body results in both massage and relaxation providing a calming effect. It’s also more discreet than other forms of exercise because it’s performed under water! So why wait--take the plunge! (This co-rec class is held in shallow water. Sandals or water shoes are suggested for locker rooms.)

What is the Wooster Soccer Association? WSA is a non-profit, volunteer organization that works in cooperation with the Wooster Recreation Department to encourage and support participation in soccer. WSA strives to provide participants with experiences that build confidence, good health, team spirit, and civic responsibility. Our goal is to reach high standards of good sportsmanship and proficiency in soccer skills. The association supports and organizes outdoor recreational soccer leagues for children beginning at Preschool and continuing through High School. The association also supports and organizes traveling soccer teams for ages 10 to 13 (U10-U14). Participation in traveling soccer is at the invitation of the coach, and tryouts will be announced when new teams are forming. It is expected that all traveling players will have participated in at least one season of recreational league play before joining a traveling team.
