Mayor’s MessageIt is my pleasure, on behalf of Uxbridge township council and Staff, to present our Fall / Winter 2011-2012 community Guide.
as fall approaches, it brings with it many exciting opportunities to experience all sorts of wonderful recreational activities. Visit our trails and experience the wonder of nature with spectacular Fall colours or winter opportunities. We are very excited about the wide variety of programs that we are presenting to the public. We encourage you to get out and enjoy the activities in the community. It is a wonderful way to become involved in everything that Uxbridge has to offer as well as meeting new people.
I would like to thank the many volunteers who, through their tireless efforts and dedication to our community are a major reason Uxbridge has such a broad array of well-run and progressive programs.

Practice your escape drills a least twice a year.

Whenyouescape,movequicklyandbecareful,butdonotrun.
If you have to escape through smoke, crawl low on your hands and knees, keeping your head one to two feet above the floor, where the air will be the cleanest.
Test the doorknob and spaces around the door with the back of your hand. If the door is warm, try another escape route. If the door is cool, open the door slowly. Close the door quickly
if smoke pours through. Close doors behind you as you escape to slow the spread of the fire.
Install and maintain your smoke alarms.Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and out side all bedrooms.

Heritage Uxbridge is a committee commissioned by the Uxbridge Council to act as an advocate for the preservation and conservation of heritage properties in the township. The committee is made up of dedicated volunteers who carry out a number of on-going responsibilities throughout the year, working with the community and the township members assisting with and advising in matters related to heritage and cultural aspects. In past years, the committee has developed and organized guided tours, and published articles and maps that help promote Uxbridge’s cultural heritage. further, the committee continues to maintain a close watch on the Pickering airport lands, and will endeavour to help protect any properties of historical value found within that area. UXBRIDGE
WATERSHED
YOU LIVE IN THE UXBRIDGE BROOK WATERSHED
A watershed is a land area that drains rain and other water into a wetland or groundwater aquifer. Rain and irrigation from lawns and gardens wash pollutants off surfaces like streets, sidewalks, roofs, driveways and parking lots, into our streams, rivers and wetlands, and eventually, our lakes.
Storm water can be polluted from these everyday activities by draining into catch basins, which then pollute our streams:
✦Motor oil and auto fluids which leak from our vehicles✦Oil, paint or household cleaners dumped or rinsed into the gutter✦Litter and grime that collects on parking lots and sidewalks✦Dirt, leaves and lawn clippings that clog storm drains and choke creeks✦Weed killers, fertilizers and pesticides that are washed off lawns✦Pet waste left on lawns, streets, in the gutter, or on sidewalks✦Pollutants in the air carried by rain through storm drains

To complete the report, include the license number, the makeandcolourofthevehicle, thelocation(asexactaspossible)andthenatureoftheincident.Whenyousendinthereport,it is important that you sign it. This helps safeguard the system against abuse. be assured that your personal information is for statisticaluseonlyandisheldinthestrictestofconfidence.Driversreported will receive a letter from the police, describing the unsafe or aggressive driving incident that was witnessed. If a driver is reported more than once, the police will make personal contact with that individual regarding the reported problems in person or by telephone.
