PPRESIDENTRESIDENTSS MMESSAGEESSAGE I'd love to be able to dispel all rumors about the future of Second Creek and be able to give you the most complete and accurate information on the potential new track. Unfortunately at the date of this writing no one knows if we will have the use of Second Creek after this year and any predic- tions are just opinions. We remain hopeful and efforts continue to get a renewal of the use permit from Adams County but no one knows if these efforts will be successful.

The status of the proposed new track is equally fluid. What I write here will be hopelessly dated and maybe even inaccurate by the time you read this. Still, everyone wants to know, so I'll tell you what I think I know today. Numerous volunteers from the motorsports community have devoted countless hours working on the possibility of developing a new track to replace Second Creek. A possible site has been selected and a contract to purchase land is in place sub- ject to several contingencies, one of which is receiving zoning approval for use of the land as a track. Citizen opposition may doom this initial site in which case CAMA, LLC (Colorado Amateur Motorsports Association) will continue to look for a site where a track may be a permitted use.

CAMA LLC was formed by five of the larg- er car clubs, RMR, Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing, Colorado Region SCCA,

the Multi-Car Club Alliance and the Motorcycle Racing Association with the assistance of the Colorado Motorsports Council. Initial capital for CAMA came from distributions to the five Clubs in the amounts they initially contributed to acquire the lease to Second Creek and to repave it. This initial funding is available for the pur-

chase of the land for the new track and there is the potential for further funding from the earnings of Second Creek. The initial capi- tal will not be sufficient to purchase the first site selected for consideration and will not be enough to purchase any alternative site. Certain of the Clubs including RMR have indicated a willingness to contribute addi- tional funds subject to contingencies on return of the funds in proportion to their

contribution, if a track is not built. Still, it is clear that more funds will be necessary if CAMA is to build and operate a track. Contributions from members will be neces- sary as well as fund raising activities from all the Clubs with the specific purpose of contributing to the purchase of land and development of a new track. Toward that end, RMR has set up an account to hold any contributions and any donated funds will be contributed to the new track venture or returned to the donor. Rick Goncalves has recently accepted the role as RMR's repre- sentative to the fund raising committee of CAMA and we will get more organized in the future and have more information and direction with respect to the fund raising efforts.

RMR is in complete support of the efforts to develop a new track and many RMR mem- bers have devoted countless hours to this project. Development of real estate is a dif- ficult task and our volunteers have done ter- rific jobs working toward this goal. Still, this will not be easy and will not produce an immediate substitute for Second Creek. Rest assured that your Board is working diligently to have places to enjoy the cars we all love so much. Hope to see you soon.

MMEMBERSHIPEMBERSHIP MMESSAGESESSAGES Welcome to new and returning members! I'm looking for someone to mentor and eventually turn over my Membership Chair duties (I think they're getting tired of me on the board!). If you have any interest please con- tact me. I can't believe the summer is almost over. This month I hope to see everyone out racing or volunteering at our annual Club Race in Pueblo. Still lots of great events to come - hope to see everyone out there! Feel free to call me at (303)554-7464 or email tcash@healthaxis.com with any questions, problems, or suggestions. Tamela
