One of the joys of being in SNV-PCA is keeping up with all of our club friends. We really have an SNV-PCA family. We all discuss and enjoy our travels and sharing the latest about our families.

We were very sad to hear that we lost one of our nicest, most active volun-teers, Jack Roberts, who passed away October 18th. It was only a few months ago that Jack and Lois organized our New Member Breakfast, and it was one of the best events of the year with a car show and numerous door prizes. Jack also ran the Goodie Store at Parade in Spokane all week — an incredible amount of work! Once in a while I would see the Roberts’ beautiful 968 in Northwest Reno. Our Club sends heartfelt condo-lences to Lois.

You may be saying, “SNV? What is he talking about?” As I learned shortly after becoming an officer, our region’s official designation is Sierra Nevada Region-SNV, not the SNR that we often use. A small bit of Club trivia. But this trivia be-comes more important because as Rich Chew and

Jim Hemig are redesigning our website (using PCA’s master website) we are required to use our official designation — SNV. As of December 1st, the newaddress will be SNV.PCA.org.

An impressive amount of thought and hard work has been put into the new site. One important feature will be online registration for events. This will be easier for our event hosts as well as club participants. THANK YOU, Rich and Jim!

I hope to see you at the La Vecchia Volunteer Dinner, Thursday, November 9th. We will be honoring all of you — our volunteer officers and event hosts! And it won’t be long until our Holiday Party December 14th. With donations of a Porsche Design leather jacket and $500 from Brian Bolton and additional Club monies, we hope to make it a very special holiday for our Club charity (AMBUCS) through our donation of monies toward handicapped bikes to those in need.

See you there!

This is the last edition of The Cir-cular.

Beginning De-cember 1st, the newsletter content you are familiar with will be posted directly on a new Sierra Nevada Re-gion website.

This change will make the stories easier to read and events faster to sign up for.

Instead of clicking on the newslet-ter cover icon to load the entire set of newsletter pages, the stories and photos will be displayed right on the home page for easy reading – on your computer AND your mobile device.

On this new site you’ll find stories about upcoming events, prior event reports, feature stories, photos, Presi-dent’s report and much more. The new website will also feature a new and improved calendar. The new calendar will let you sign up and pay for events directly from the event page. This will simplify the member sign-up and attendee management process greatly.

The new website will “go live” December 1st and can be found at http://snv.pca.org. If you click on this link prior to the December launch, you’ll see the website before it’s finished. But feel free to take a look. We still have more work to do on it but will be ready on December 1st.

Also beginning in December we will be adding more information to the regular “e-blast” emails. These emails will start including links to the stories and photos posted on the website. So you won’t have to check the website for new content – you’ll get regular updates in your

email box! This change as been years in the

making. With the high cost of printing and mailing a paper newsletter and the advancements in digital communica-tion, the SNR board decided to tran-sition slowly over the last two years toward a 100% internet-based commu-nication method.

The best part of this process is the cost to set up this new website is very little.

SNR member Rich Chew created the website with feedback from a special

Communications Committee made up of SNR members.

The calendar program and a couple special web page “plug-ins” were purchased, but those are one- time costs and at a fraction of what the printed newsletter cost.

We hope you find the new website, calendar and email changes a positive step forward. As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated.

What is the perfect recipe for a great outing? How about a dozen Porsches, perfect weather, autumn colors, twisty roads, Bavarian food and a few bottles of beer? Not enough?

Well, add to the list the welcoming hospitality of Angela and Kirk Fassbender, the proprietors of the Pfeifer House who rolled out the red carpet for the club.

The evening started at the foot of Mt. Rose Highway as members gathered for the final driving tour of the season. With temperatures in the 80s, the group headed up to Lake Tahoe past golden trees and a patch or two of snow. Once at the lake, the caravan headed toward Tahoe City.

The Pfeifer House restaurant is located just west of the “Y” and as we entered the parking lot, we were met by the own-ers’ son who directed us into

a private parking area. A few steps later it felt like you had traveled to Bavaria once you entered the restaurant. Authentic décor, appropriate music, and, of course, a wide selection of German beer.

Not surprisingly, members enjoyed mingling at the bar, but also took advantage of the main dining room dedicated exclusively to our group to catch up with each other and occasionally talk about their favorite mark.

Dinner consisted of the classic Bavarian fa-See Next Page

I will give a special shout out

to the Potato Leek Soup, which was excellent along with the Ap-ple Strudel (a lifelong weakness of mine). Did I already mention the beer?

By the time dessert arrived,

many of the 24-plus members in attendance took the opportunity to move to other tables to engage in more conversation. I take this as a good sign everyone was having a good time.

Have you ever misjudged your vehicle’s position when parallel parking? Has your wheel come into contact with the curb (aka curb rash)? Or perhaps you’ve run over a rock or other obstacle and bent a rim? Well, of course, YOU haven’t, but maybe someone else has. How can this kind of damage be fixed?

To find out, over 25 club members gathered at Sierra Wheel Repair in Sparks on Saturday, October

21st, to hear owner Roger Dombrowske explain the vari- ous repair processes. Using some Fuchs wheels as an example,

Roger talked about how wheels can be refinished. He emphasized the importance of completely removing the existing finish and then applying the new finish requested by the customer.

Powder coating is the most popular wheel finish.

Sean Berger repairs some curb rash. Roger Dombrowske explains paint matching.

Travis Askins shows off a freshly powder coated wheel

The powder coating “paint” is sprayed onto the wheel and then placed in a 400-plus degree oven where the coating is cured. The result is a durable finish that is harder than regular paint. Roger demonstrated the process

by powder coating one wheel during the presentation.

Next, Roger showed how curb rash can be repaired. The af-fected areas are ground down to a smooth finish and then repainted and clear coat applied as neces-sary. Cracks are more challenging

and require welding. Finally, Roger walked us

through the wheel straighten-ing process. The wheel is placed on a truing stand and rotated. This process exposes where the wheel is out of round. The area

Also at the tech session was Steve Nesbitt of Reno Paint Mart.

While he supplies Roger with automotive paints, he was on hand to discuss the full line of car care products carried by his shop. Steve explained the use of various products as well as discussing how different manufacturers stand behind their products.

With the 911 Carrera T, Porsche is reviving the puristic concept behind the 911 T of 1968: less weight, shorter trans-mission ratios from the manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive with mechanical rear differential lock for an enhanced performance and intense driving pleasure. The new model’s unique appearance is based on the 911 Carrera and its engine delivers 272 kW (370 hp). The 911 Carrera T – at Porsche, “T” stands for Touring – also boasts several other equipment features that are not available for the 911 Carrera,

including the PASM sports chassis as standard, lowered by 20 mm, the weight-optimised

Sport Chrono Package, a short-ened shift lever with red shift pattern and Sport-Tex seat centres. The rear-axle steering, which is not available for the 911 Carrera, is available as an option

and rear side windows are made from lightweight glass and the door trims feature opening loops. The sound absorption has been largely reduced. The rear seats have been omitted along with the Porsche Com-munication Management (PCM), though both are still available on request at no ad-ditional cost. The result of the lightweight construction meas-ures: At an unladen weight of 1,425 kilograms, the two-seater is 20 kilograms lighter than a 911 Carrera with comparable equipment.

The 911 Carrera T will be available from January 2018 and can be pre-ordered now. In Germany, the price will be EUR 107,553 including VAT and country-specific features.A sporty design and unique appearance

The design of the 911 Carrera T highlights the emotionality and sportiness of the coupé with rear-axle transmission. The body parts and wheels function as clear differentiating elements. At the front, the 911 Carrera T features an aerodynamically optimised front spoiler lip, and the Sport Design exterior mir-rors are painted in Agate Grey

Metallic. From the side, the new model is easily recognisable thanks to its 20-inch Carrera S wheels in Titan Grey. The “911 Carrera T” logos represent another distinctive feature at the side. The rear view is charac-terised by the slats in the rear lid grille, the Porsche logo, the “911 Carrera T” model desig-nation in Agate Grey and the sports exhaust system provided as standard, with centrally positioned tailpipes painted in black. The exterior colour options are Black, Lava Orange, Guards Red, Racing Yellow, White and Miami Blue, as well as the metallic colours Carrara White, Jet Black and GT Silver. A puristic interior concept and new interior package

The appearance of the pas-senger compartment also has a sporty and puristic emphasis. The driver enjoys black, four-way, electric sports seats with a seat centre in Sport-Tex fabric, while the headrests feature a “911” logo stitched in black. This new Carrera T model also comes with the option to choose full bucket seats for the first time. Steering actions are completed via the GT sports steering wheel with leather rim, and the mode switch provided on the steering wheel as stand-

ard allows the driver to select different driving programmes. The shortened shift lever with shift pattern in red remains exclusive to the 911 Carrera T. The decorative trims on the dashboard and doors are black, as are the door opening loops. A new addition is the T interior package, which creates an even sportier look with the contrast-ing colours of Racing Yellow, Guards Red or GT Silver. These colours can be used to add visual accents on various interior components, such as the seat belts, the “911” logo on the headrests, the door open-ing loops or the centres of the Sport-Tex seats.Improved weight-to-power ratio plus enhanced perfor-mance

The six-cylinder flat engine with a displacement of three litres and twin turbocharg-ing generates an output of 272 kW (370 hp) and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, delivering between 1,750 rpm and 5,000 rpm. The weight-to-power ratio has been improved to 3.85 kg/hp, ensuring enhanced perfor-mance and more agile driving dynamics. Thanks to a shorter rear axle ratio and mechanical

Porsche Doppelkup-plung (PDK) is also available as an option on the Carrera T, enabling the vehicle to reach 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, and 200 km/h in 14.5 seconds. Both transmission variants enable a top speed of over 290 km/h.

As I write this column, we do not know the extent of the loss and destruction to all in the North Bay. Fires are still burning and it will be some time before Redwood Region can let us know if there is anything the rest of us can do to help. We know some of our fellow PCA members have lost their homes and Porsches. I will keep you posted. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Redwood Region.

The final Zone 7 Autocross just happened at the end of October. Everyone is invited to attend the Zone 7 Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 11th at 6pm at the Hilton Garden Inn, Fairfield. We will be presenting the class awards for the Zone 7 Autocross and Zone 7 Concours Series along with some special Zone awards. We will not have Club Race awards, as they will be racing down in Button-willow with Zone 8 that weekend.

Rennsport Reunion VI will be held at Laguna Seca September 27th-30th, 2018. Tickets are on sale now (www.mazdaraceway.com) for the event and the corral. From the PCA site here is what Rennsport is: For those who may not know what, exactly, is a Rennsport Reunion, picture this: tens of thousands of car enthusiasts and hundreds of Porsches of all types on display and racing on track. Among the thousands of people scattered about the paddock and infield are famous race car drivers, en-gineers, designers and company executives — basi-

cally the who’s-who of the Porsche world. Porsche, not PCA, puts on this event.

PCA will provide a hospitality tent with refreshments and presentations by Porsche insiders for members in attendance. Moreinformation will become available in the near future. PCA volunteers will be parking the corral Porsches by model at the event as in past years. Hope to see you in the corral.

Please check out the new addition to the Zone 7 website (thanks to Rich Chew) at http://zone7.pca.org. Rich has added a place for photos and article’s from Zone events. Enjoy the photo of 82 Porsches on Shasta Dam.

The 2017 Zone Concours Series is now complete (trite, but true; time flies). After seven events hosted by Zone 7 regions from Monterey to Reno, Honore and I have enjoyed our role in helping to run the individual events and promote the series this year. For those who participated in at least four of the seven events, please be sure to join us at the Zone Awards Dinner and Ceremony on November 11th.

Congratulations in ad-vance to the series winners and thanks to everyone who participated in or supported the series this year. The Se-ries could not have succeeded without the help of a great many participant volunteers.

Some fun facts about the 2017 edition of the Zone Concours Series:• 91 entrants entered vehicles that were judged a total of 159 times• 9 perfect scores were achieved, including two in Full Concours (300.0 points out of 300.0!)• 95 unique vehicles were entered, including 94 Porsche cars and one Porsche bike• 46 individuals helped with the judging over the seven events• 12 entrants qualified for Zone awards with 10 first places and two second places• Entrants scored a total of 36,141.0 points

Honore and I enjoyed meeting new friends, visiting regions we hadn’t yet visited, and spending time with so many series regulars who we look forward to seeing week after

week during the season and miss during the off-season.

Our experience at these events, at WERKS and at Parade reminded us this year at PCA it’s not just the cars, but the people.

We also enjoyed meeting so many people who shared their very clean Porsche vehicles with fellow enthusiasts; we saw a NUMBER of very cool Porsches this year.

If you participated, a big thanks from us for supporting the series and we hope that you enjoyed the experience. If you didn’t participate but enjoy a clean Porsche car and are interested, we hope to see you

next year. We’ll be proposing some tweaks to the rules

for next year’s series, mostly to incorporate what we learned, reflect the sort of partici-pation we’ve been seeing in the Zone Series over the past few years and to mirror Parade rules where it makes sense to do so. Look for a summary of those changes once they’re ap-proved at the Zone Presidents meeting early in 2018.

We’re also looking at ways to encourage par-ticipation for those who want to display their clean cars at the events, but aren’t interested in having them judged.

Until the series starts again in May, enjoy your Porsche and we’ll look forward to seeing you at an event in 2018.
