Further to this, we have also written to the Chairman and Members of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee to request an urgent meeting to discuss these issues and to urge them to hold the Government to account over their false assurances. As well as this, we have written to Northern Irish Members of Parliament to highlight the significant difference between the current and previous rules and to outline the impact that this will have on pet owners

and breeders. It is our hope that this communication will increase the existing pressure on the Government to find a workable and permanent solution and to remove the barriers which are currently preventing smooth travel for pet owners between NI and GB.

If you have concerns regarding this situation and how it will impact you directly, we would strongly advise contacting your local representative – your Member of Parliament or Member of the Legislative Assembly if you are

based in NI – to request that they also raise their concerns with Defra and/or the Northern Irish Executive on your behalf.

• On January 21, EFRA announced that it would hold an inquiry into the new pet travel rules as well as other related aspects.

We are deeply concerned about the impact that the new requirements will have on pet owners and have already heard from many who are extremely concerned about both the financial burden and the inconvenience of complying with these rules. As such, we have contacted Ministers and officials at Defra to raise our concerns and we will continue our dialogue with them to gain more clarity about what the Government is doing to address the new difficulties facing pet owners.

Brexit pet travel rules update

New pet travel rules between Great Britain (GB) and Northern Ireland (NI) were introduced on 1 January 2021 alongside new rules for people travelling with their dogs to the European Union (EU) from either GB or NI.

Viewing pedigreesWhen using the Dog Look Up service (also known as the Health Test Finder), two generations of a dog’s pedigree can now be viewed instead of one. Website users no longer need to log in to use this service and an enhancement is the addition of dog titles such as Ch and JW.

Find a PuppyWhen using the Find a Puppy service, we have removed the key word search and provided a drop-down list of breeds to ensure breeders are

receiving emails only for the breeds for which they are listed. Other filters allow website users to search for the location and sex of the puppy. It is also possible to refine the search to look for Assured Breeders as well as for litters produced by dogs with health test results recorded on The Kennel Club database.

Find an Assured BreederWhen using the Find an Assured

Breeder service, we have removed the key word

search and provided a drop-down list of breeds to ensure breeders are receiving emails only for those breeds for which they are listed. It

is possible to refine the search to look for Assured

Breeders by location.The Kennel Club is continuing to

listen to feedback, and improvements to the functionality of the website will continue to take place.

It is with regret that due to the recently introduced UK-wide lockdown we recommend the

cancellation of licensed events until at least 28 February 2021.

Societies should refer to the conditions stipulated by the government in their area. Therefore those societies whose events have been cancelled should contact The Kennel Club to confirm the cancellation and to let us know

The Kennel Club and Weatherbys have introduced a further 38 CombiBreed™

health test packages, available for 41 new breeds, in order to provide a simplified process for canine genetic health testing for the benefit of both dog breeders and owners, and help to eradicate some of the most concerning genetic disorders facing certain breeds. This brings the total number of breeds eligible for the health packages to 61.

The new tests are available across both single and bundle packages for the following breeds: American Cocker Spaniel, Australian Cattle Dog, Bearded Collie, Bedlington Terrier, Boston Terrier, Briard, Bulldog, Miniature Bull Terrier, Clumber Spaniel, Miniature Wire-Haired Dachshund, Miniature Long-Haired Dachshund, Miniature Smooth-Haired Dachshund, Dalmatian, Entlebucher Mountain Dog, Finnish Laphund, German Wirehaired Pointer, Gordon Setter, Great Dane, Greyhound, Irish Red and White Setter, Irish

Further to previous announcements regarding ‘grandfather rights’ for eligible

judges during the five-year transition phase of the Judges Education Programme (Breed Shows), applications using this route are now open.

For progression to award CCs via grandfathering, candidates can self-nominate provided they are included on at least one Breed Club/Council A3 list and/or have a pre-existing JDP Credit Pass for the relevant breed. Each judge must also meet all The Kennel Club’s mandatory requirements for approval to award CCs (see below).

Judges of breeds that do not yet have CC status are advised that they too have grandfather rights which may make it possible to achieve Level 4 status in such breeds. In those cases it is recognised that breed specialists will not have the three Stud Book Numbers (as required for CC judges), but the Judges Committee will take into account dogs owned and/or bred

and any significant wins. Breed clubs for non-CC breeds were not previously required to compile an A3 list, but are now encouraged to do so to include those judges which the club is prepared to support through the grandfathering route.

Club specimen schedules revised for 2021Although events in 2021 continue to be subject to change, in order to assist societies with planning, updated versions of the specimen schedules for breed shows, agility, obedience, working trials, bloodhound trials, heelwork to music and rally can now be downloaded from The Kennel Club website.

Organisers of The Kennel Club licensed events are reminded that all competition schedules must conform to the current specimen schedules, and that no changes may be made to a show/trial schedule once issued, except with the permission of The Kennel Club.

The Kennel Club would like to advise and reassure competition organisers, exhibitors and competitors that our Sports Committees are working on solutions to help enable shows, competitions and other events to resume when Government guidance allows and the current restrictions are sufficiently reduced or relaxed. We are also actively seeking Government advice and clarification on guidance already issued. We are looking at the safety measures that may need to be put in place, together with any Kennel Club Regulations which may need to be amended or relaxed to enable competitions to resume. As soon as more information is available, our guidance will be issued. We are aware that everyone is keen to resume their dog-related activities as soon as it is practical to do so, but please bear with us as we work towards helping you to provide the safest possible environment to allow for this. The continued health, safety and security of all participants at Kennel Club events is of paramount importance.

RALLY & LISTED STATUS AGILITYThe fees for Rally & Listed Status Agility are both £60. Listed Agility also has an additional fee of 5p per dog over 1000 dogs (maximum £100).
