BIBLE MEMORY VERSES FOR MARCH 2016
1. Job 19:25 – 27a. For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; and that after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
2. I Peter 1:3 – 5. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are be-ing protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
3. I Corinthians 6:14. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power.
4. I Peter 1:18 – 21. You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your an-cestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was re-vealed at the end of the ages for your sake. Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are set on God.

Sometimes out of the mouths of babes we learn the greatest lessons. I would like to share
a story I came across that proves this point.
The author is unknown.
Every child comes with the message that God is not; yet discouraged with man. Now the
story goes thus: a little shepherd boy was watching his sheep one Sunday morning and he heard the bells of the
church ringing. And watching the people walk along the pasture where he was, he happened to think to himself, “I
would like to communicate with God! But, what could I say to god?”
He had never learned a prayer. So, on bended knee, he began to recite the alphabet. As he was repeating this prayer
several times, a man passing by, heard the boy’s voice and peaked through the bushes. He saw the young boy kneel-
ing with folded hands, eyes closed, repeating the alphabet.
He interrupted the boy. “What are you doing, my little one?” he asked. The boy replied, “I was praying sir, “The
man seemed surprised and said, “But why are you reciting the alphabet?” The boy explained, “I don’t know any
prayers, sir. But I do want God to take care of me, and to help me care for my sheep. And so I thought, if I said all I
did know which is the alphabet, He could put the letters together into the right words, and then He would know all
that I need and what I meant to say!”
The man smiled and said. ”Bless your heart, I know God will hear you and put the letters together correctly!”
Knowing this, the man went on to church realizing that he had just heard the finest sermon he could possibly have
heard that day and it came from the heart of a small child.
Maybe if we thought like little children and let God put together all of our letters and forming the words that would
represent what we wanted and what we should say, things would probably work out a lot better than we humans
could ever have planned with our sophisticated words!!!
CLERK'S CORNER
Easter Flowers
Easter Sunday, with its joyous worship service, is not many weeks away. The traditional Easter Flower
Memorials bring to the service a beauty befitting the joy with which we celebrate the Resurrection. Equal-
ly fitting is the thankfulness expressed by the memorials for the lives of those who have passed on to the
Church Triumphant.
On Easter, March 27, we will publish a special Memorial insert in the bulletin. The money collected for the memorials will
be used to purchase flowers to grace our sanctuary. After the Easter services, the Deacons will distribute the plants to our
shut-ins and to those who have had a death in the immediate family since last Easter. Please note your donation does not
buy a plant, but a memorial listing. It is suggested that a minimum donation of $12 be made for your listing
.
Please return the attached form to the church office; The Peekskill Presbyterian Church, 705 South Street, Peekskill, NY
10566; or place it in the offering plate no later than March 13. Contact the church office at 737-3322 if you need addi-
tional information.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
My mother died this last year, right after Thanksgiving, before Christmas. She was almost 91 years old. I shouldn't have been so surprised. Or maybe I was right to be surprised. After all, she had survived everything that came her way before. She hadn't died like everyone else. Sometimes it seemed like that moment would never come for her but, of course, it did.
Lots of people said it must be hard to lose someone at that time of year, that I would miss her so at the holidays. But it really wasn't like that for me. Mom had spent Thanksgiving in a nursing home and she would be spending Christmas in heaven. My mother didn't like to go to our family celebrations any more. In fact, she usually refused the invitation and was then persuaded to go wherever our very large family was gathering. I understood her point of view. It was a long day for her and a journey to get to the celebration. There were too many people around and not enough people, both at the same time. She could not hear very well so the many different conversations we engaged in were cacophony for her. Too many people. Everyone went and spent some time with her but, inevitably, after awhile, she would be in the corner by herself. All the others of her generation were gone and the younger generation was inter-ested in its own life. Not enough people. At any rate, it didn't seem so sad for her to be missing the holi-days. It was almost a relief, I'm sure for everyone. And so, I didn't expect to miss her so much at Christ-mas.
I was in church at the Christmas Eve service, by myself. Suddenly I found myself getting teary-eyed and missing my mother. That was kind of strange because my mother and I had never gone to church togeth-er on Christmas Eve. Ever. Still I missed my mother.
To distract myself, I took a walk around the church. I knew just about everybody there. And then I no-ticed a young woman sitting by herself in the front pew. I didn't know her, and she seemed just as alone as I was. I walked over to her and invited her to sit with me. "Hello," I said. "I'm Barbara. Would you like to sit with me?"
She seemed delighted with the invitation and came and sat in the pew next to me. Then she turned to me and said, "I'm Justine's daughter."
"No," I said. "I'm Justine's daughter." For Justine was my mother's name and not a very common one.
Suddenly my mother was with me in that church. And I had a sister in the Lord. Somehow, God had found a way for me to feel my mother's presence, to console me. I knew that I was not separated from my mother. Though she is gone, I will be Justine's daughter for the rest of my life. And I have a new per-spective on the family of God. For truly that young woman and I can say together, "We are Justine's daughters."

Calendar Update
It turns out that we collected more than 700 calendars this year. In addition to donating them to Sing Sing, we were also able to send some to Shawangunk Correctional Facility and our sisters in the Lord at Taconic and Bedford Hills Correctional Facilities. Barbara Devir, CLP

Celebrating the gifts of Women
The Bible is filled with stories about women who have been significant par-ticipants in the testaments of God and humanity. What we learn from reading the Bible and other historical text, is that women have always been leaders.
From leading armies and financing the ministry of Jesus, to teaching children in schools and in churches, the gifts and the contributions of women are numerous. As leaders of grassroots programs in the community and organizations throughout society; women have consistently taken to the front line, to work for the advancement of civil, equal, and human rights for all people.
During the month of March, we remember and recognize the fortitude and the faith of wom-en throughout history. Today, with women leaders positioned in almost every sector of socie-ty, setting aside a month to recognize women can appear to be unnecessary.
History reminds us however, that great sacrifices have been made in order for women to en-joy the equality and gain the respect that we experience today. There are still nations throughout the world where women are still denied the basic rights of health care, safety, economic sufficiency, and education.
While we continue to pray and advocate for the freedom of women across the globe, it is im-portant that young women and girls understand the sacrifices that have been made in order for us all to realize our goals, dreams and human rights.
This month we remember and celebrate women like, Deborah, the judge and military leader; Lydia, the business woman; Phoebe, the deacon; Zilpha Elaw, the evangelist; Daisy Bates, civil rights activist; Kate Bernard, advocate for Native American rights; Shirley Chisolm, first woman presidential candidate; Charlotte Perry, teacher and Presbyterian Woman; Evangeline Batterton, school counselor and God mother; and so many of the unknown women who have prayed, sacrificed and made a difference in the world and in our lives. Thank you. We shall never forget.
By Faith, Pastor Stephany
