SpaceX Reaches for the Moon in 2018 By Page Murray

That’s right, these are SpaceX’s new spacesuits, and they’re headed for the Moon in 2018. Two unannounced private citizens will skim the surface of the moon, make a long loop around, and come back to earth. SpaceX’s high tech Dragon Crew Capsule and Falcon Heavy Rocket will both be involved in this mission, traveling nearly 500,000 miles. These have both been used transporting supplies to the International Space Station, but this will be their longest journey yet and the first manned mission to the Moon since 1972. SpaceX seems to have a fairly laid-back attitude - their Falcon rocket is named after the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is also reaching into other industries. His initial fortune was made from co-founding the popular online payment service PayPal, and he is also famous for founding Tesla. In addition to working on SpaceX and Tesla, Musk recently revealed his newest project, The Boring Company. This new company plans to build a new, ultrafast highway system underneath America’s existing roads. Musk’s companies are moving rapidly, expanding into new markets both on Earth and beyond.

Cats a-lot By: One of your local writers

On the 21st of September 2017 there was assembly on cats, or more specifically, non-domestic cats. There were 4 cats at this amazing assembly. One of the cats was a cheetah which was really cool because the cheetah is our school mascot. Another one of the 4 cats was a fishing cat. A fishing cat is about the size of your average domestic cat, but what was really cool about the fishing cat was that is two front paws are actually webbed. There was also a black leopard which was surprising because it is very endangered and we got to see one of these cool black leopards. And last but not least was the ocelot. The ocelot looks just like a cheetah because of all of the spots and stripes and the ocelot’s stomach is striped like a zebra. The ocelot lives most of its life in the trees, but what's really cool about the ocelot was that when it climbs trees it goes head first up the tree and it goes head first down the tree. When I asked my friends and some other students, the favorite moment for most of them was when the cheetah appeared and the second most liked part of the assembly when the ocelot climbed up and down the post. But sadly the cougar that we were told was going to be there retired one year before the assembly.

Chapter 2

The black furred wolf nuzzled up to my side as if trying to comfort me. She seems concerned for me, like I'm one of her own. Her concern for my mental health has me then trying to convince her I'm alright, by bending down and petting her soft fur. Looking up at the dragon I notice it staring elsewhere as its eyes start to glow white. Whipping his head in my directions, his eyes bore into mine and my vision becomes blank.

My eyes begin to settle in, the darkness in the woods, it's gone, and I can see everything much more clear. The trees, the grass, the path, and the tall dragon, with dark brown and red scales and glowing blue eyes. The moderately well sized wolf with midnight black fur with a patch of white fur on her chest and glowing green-yellow eyes.

Darkness. I can see none of it, the trees, the whole woods, it's all clear. It's like the dragon gave me the power to see like them. They dragon starts to walk down the path deeper into the woods, the wolf grabs my sleeve pulling me along with them. The dragon takes long strides along the path and the wolf ushers me farther and faster down the path

Until we reach a fork in the path, the dragon stops, he stands there turning his head this way and that. Then completely stepping off the path. The dragon walks more toward an area of the woods with more growth. Using his tail, he brushes the dark green leaves out of the way. Walking through the brush and trees I hear rushing water.

A waterfall. Small but beautiful, the dragon steps in the water and walks toward the waterfall. Jumping up toward the center of the waterfall, about to crash into a rock wall behind it, he disappears. Next the wolf and now my turn.

Wading through the chilling crystal clear pond of refreshing water. I stick my hand in the waterfall feeling around for a ledge, ending up to feel a long scaly tail wrapping around my waist pulling me through the rushing water to a surprisingly warm cave.

Prologue

Earnest slipped from her bed, already clothed. She grabbed the heavy bag from the foot of her bed and quietly opened her door. He was already waiting in the corridor.

Jordan quickly slipped a cloak over her red tresses and glowing skin and fastened it under her chin, and almost silently led her away. They snuck through the castle like thieves, until they paused in front of a door. Jordan opened it, and chilly night winds whipped into the hall.

A path led away from her home. Through the gardens it wound, until it curved behind a hedge. Earnest had left the castle before, but never without a whole congregation of people. But now she was escaping, with a boy she hardly knew, and she was afraid.

And then she looked at him. He was older than she, but slightly shorter. Earnest steeled her resolve, and stepped out. Almost immediately the boy followed, like he had been waiting for her decision.

Suddenly, with that little decision, she was free. And so she ran, tunic whipping about her legs. Jordan tailed her, looking alarmed. Earnest grinned, throwing out her arms. She couldn’t wait for the new worlds, the worlds they would find in his balloon.

She slowed so Jordan could lead her to their vehicle of escape. It would carry them away, soon, and her misgivings would fall away and she would be light as air, no longer the symbol of her country, no longer a ruler of religion, no longer a queen.

Yet she was still indecisive. She would always wonder whether she shouldn’t have left the castle. That was her nature, the same as all smart children that wonder. But as they reached the balloon, she still climbed in. She still helped Jordan light the fire that would fill the balloon. She watched as he cut the rope keeping them on the ground. And she whooped as they floated up and away.

But the cloak did not conceal her completely, as they flew up. A young soldier, guarding the castle walls, looked up and saw the orange aura of her skin, and ran to alert his superior.

And she did not care as she felt his panicked mind. Earnest was leaving, escaping. She did feel lighter than air, in the basket. She was among the clouds despite the taboo. She was flying and she was gone. Earnest didn’t know if she’d ever come back down, and she was fine with that. She locked eyes with her savior and smiled.

They were among the clouds, and she had left the land of Earnest behind her.

Sweet Emotion ~ Aerosmith This classic came out in 1975 on the album “Toys in the Attic.” The most recognizable part of this song is roughly ten seconds in when they sing sweet emotion . 2. “Don’t Stop Believing” ~ Journey The rock band Journey came out with this song in 1981 on their album “Escape.” If you went to Loma Prieta elementary school you will definitely recognize this song from the Jog A Thon! In fact, I don’t remember a Jog A Thon without this song… 3. “The Eye of The Tiger” ~ Survivor “The Eye of The Tiger” written by the rock band “Survivor” was released on their album “Eye of The Tiger” in 1981. This is also a song Loma Prieta annual Jog A Thon cannot live without! 4. “Back in Black” ~ AC/DC The album “Back in Black” by AC/DC has sold $40,000,000 copies and ranks #2 in sales only after Michael Jackson's “Thriller” 5. Beast of Burden ~ The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones wrote this song in 1978 on their album “Some Girls.” Definitely a softer sound compared to the more loud and upbeat songs The Rolling Stones listen to. 6. Twist and Shout ~ The Beatles

Hello Ct! In this issue I will be talking about boots. As for winter boots, UGGs are very

popular. Many of the colors that I have been seeing is grey, dark grey, pink, and tan/ brown

colors. Lots of girls like to wear the taller boots because they tend to keep your feet warmer. As

for fashionable boots, other than UGGs, leather boots are in style. The short boots are in style

and the tall boots are also in style. I have also seen a lot of combat boots. If you get your boots

dirty really fast, then spray the boots with a water resistant spray, UGG, Vans, and other shoe

companies sell it and it works pretty well.

For the 7th Graders!!! From Sarah

Many of you guys are going to Yosemite. Us, 8th graders had a blast in Yosemite. As

you probably know, you need to bring hiking boots with ankle support. The Ahnu and Keen

brands were popular and useful. Many of my friends had the Ahnu boots (top left) and she said

that they were amazing boots and that she would highly recommend them. Be sure that they fit snugly but not too tight and loose enough to wear thick socks. It is highly recommended to buy

waterproof boots. Yosemite was so much fun, and you will have fun too!
