Last month I opened my column with the introduction of our newColonial Classic Hamburger, and the feedback (pun intended) has been just what we anticipated…Chef Michael’s version of the classic all-American burger has received rave reviews. Please try one out when you have a big hunger and want big value for your money! If you don’tthink we have the BEST hamburger in Tarrant County, just call me…satisfaction guaranteed!

And speaking of guaranteed satisfaction…there is nothing quite as frustrating as picking up a To-Go order after work from a favoriterestaurant, and discovering at home that something was left out, or thatthe order was wrong. Candidly, there have been times when this has happened with our To-Go service…and we are doing something aboutit! After considerable review of how we have traditionally done our To-Go orders, the Cork Room management team has implemented a much-improved system for guaranteeing that your next Cork Room-To-Go will be perfect. In fact, if you get home and your order is not justlike you wanted it then call the number on the Cork Room-To-Go menu, and we will deliver the right order to your door!2017 That’s right, we will guarantee your order…when we make a mistake, the right item willimmediately be delivered to your home…with our compliments. The

Cork Room team has been working on this system to get it right, and sofar, Ryan Murray has had to live up to the guarantee only once. ChefMichael has procured special to-go containers that work better for somedishes than our previous containers, and a copy of the Cork Room-To-Gomenu will be included in your order. So after your next to-go experience, please give me a call to let me know how we performed.

Please take a little time to review all of the fall and Christmas activities that Alexis has arranged for all age groups and interest levels…shehas worked very hard to specialize themed dinner parties…ladies’ socialsand lunches…children’s activities…dance classes…Parents’-Night-Outsocials…and Holiday-themed parties. And of course, if your company ororganization would like a special venue for celebrating the Holidays, thencall Julie Brauer to set up the ideal lunch, dinner, or reception. With thehard work of Julie, Chef Michael Morabito and Banquet Manager FrankScarpello, the reputation of Colonial’s Catering Department is enjoyinga Renaissance of quality service, food and décor at competitive prices.

Hope to see you at the next “Coffee with the GM” on November 7at 8:00 AM in the Fairway Lounge. Happy Holidays!

Well, it’s pretty much over (there is a God) and I hopethe vast majority of you are pleased with the results. Wewill continue to peck away at little things until first frost

and beyond, but the vast majority of the restored areas just need some time. It’s allabout trying to get everything established for the winter and then a mad dash in thespring to grow it fully in and get it perfect. There are some aspects of this fall/winterthat will be different than in years past, so I thought I would mention a few.

Rope: Different you say? How so? Is it possible to put up more? Are there enoughstakes in the world? Sadly, the answer is yes. We will have even more ropes up this falland for the same reasons as always, just with more areas to protect. As I try to preserve the same areas as always, we will add sensitive newly sodded areas to the list.As I have detailed many times in the past, short of installing continuous cart pathsthroughout the golf course, we only have ropes to simulate and substitute for wherewe lack cart paths. Every golf course I know that underwent a renovation puts every-body on paths after the work is done through the fall/winter and into spring. Nothing damages new grass like cart traffic, so with this in mind, if you want to helpout the golf course during the off season, walk as much as you can. Your heart andmy heart will love you for it.

Non Overseeded Tees: This will not become real obvious until the Bermuda-grass goes dormant, but when it does, it will become very apparent, especially on thelast tees to be sodded (5-9) that we don’t have any ryegrass overseed on. And why don’twe have any ryegrass on the tees? Since the ryegrass competes with the Bermudagrassin the springtime, it is not a good idea to overseed the first year after sodding yourtees or the ryegrass will choke out the Bermudagrass and require re-sodding the nextyear. Since we cannot risk re-sodding tees, we will have to live with dormant teesuntil the Bermudagrass greens up in April. This will likely not be too bad until thefirst of next year, and then the par three’s, especially, may get a little dicey. It is not un-common in this area to play on dormant Bermudagrass tees (we did it at Northwoodevery winter) and the good thing is that in late June when we have, historically, hadissues with shady tee boxes (2,3,4,6,11,18) being very thin when the overseed dies,we should have perfect tees.

Sand: Most of you know by now how much I love sand, especially for leveling andsmoothing surfaces. As a result, we are likely to be taking advantage of the dormant sea-son to topdress the inevitable settled areas and slight imperfections from the restoration. When the grass goes dormant, it is much easier to see the little holes and imperfectionsfrom sodding new grass. As we cannot paint every area as ground under repair, we willlikely have to develop some local rules to cover balls coming to rest in sod seams or sandedareas. Again, as soon as the Bermudagrass starts kicking in May, these issues will go away.

I am confident this is not an exhaustive list of all the little projects we will be tack-ling this winter; there will be many more. However, I am equally confident that thiswork is truly historic in the sense that Colonial has never been this dialed-in, polished, and integrated. Enjoy the before and after pictures on the Pro Shop board; it’s easyto see the difference.

October and November are my favorite monthsof the year to play golf. November promises to be a busy month and withshorter days, members need to be aware of tee times to ensure they finish all18 holes. This month will be a busy month in the golf shop, as well, with theannual Christmas sale and the expected high traffic on the course.

With arrival of Daylight Saving time November 2, the golf course is sureto be crowded. We have several events that might affect your guest play socall the shop if you plan to come out. This month we have the Senior ClubChampionship, November 1-2; Volunteer Outings on November 4-6 andpossible course closings on November 10 and November17 due to the outingsscheduled on the proceeding Mondays. Scott doubts these closures will benecessary but with all the finishing touches left to do, there may be someholes effected. Again check with the golf shop for clarification. The Boardvoted to include November in the High Season Green Fee structure sogreen fees will remain $175 until December 1.

The course may appear to be more crowded than usual due to the compressed days, but to finish a round you will need to tee off before 1:30 P.M. What this means is there will be a lot of tee times between 10:00 A.M.-1:30 P.M. during the week and between 12:00 Noon-1:00 P.M.on weekends. Everyone needs to do their part to play at a pace that does notcreate gaps to ensure an enjoyable round for all.

This month the golf shop is going to have the annual Christmas Balloon Sale, November 28-30. The format is as follows: 1) pick out theitems you wish to purchase; 2) pick a balloon; and 3) the staff will pop theballoon to see what discount you receive. The worst case is 5% better thanyou usually get with your member discount of 20%.This will be a great op-portunity to get a jump on your Christmas shopping and get a deal at thesame time. Free gift wrapping along with complimentary wine and cheesemake this event even better.

Our Junior Clinics are still going on every Tuesday and Thursday from5:00-6:00 P.M., so if you are thinking about getting the kids interested ingolf this is a great way to accomplish that.

I am sure there are numerous members who have yet to play the restoredgolf course. Why don’t you invite one of us to join you in either playing withyou or just giving you a tour; we will be happy to do either.

We in the golf shop hope everyone has a happy and healthy holiday season which includes spending some time with us in the golf shop or on the course.

Nearly everyday I see people walk in the Fitness Center doors, sign in(or not!), head straight to the leg press or pec deck and start slammin’weights. What crucial steps are they missing (besides not signing in)? Andwhy are these steps important? You guessed it, warming up and stretching.Warming up requires at least 5-10 minutes of light aerobic activity. Youshould feel your heart rate increase and a slight sweat. After warming up isthe appropriate time to stretch. A stretch is a mindful lengthening of a mus-cle. What does being mindful have to do with working out? It means beingaware and not holding your breath while stretching to ensure the bloodand oxygen are working together for muscle recovery. Stretching is designedto also protect your joints by allowing for full range of motion by loosen-ing stiff muscles. Stretch between sets of lifts to elongate muscles. Stretchafter a cardio workout to improve flexibility. The most effective stretchesbegin with the largest muscles: quadriceps, gluts, hamstrings, hip flexors, calves, and low back after leg day or cardio; upper back, chest, shoulders, biceps and triceps on upper body days.985 Or try a yoga or pilates classonce or twice a week and get all your parts stretched. You will find you feelmore relaxed both mentally and physically after stretching. You will find

you are injured less and recover more quickly. If you are new to stretching, ask a personal trainer or group exercise instructor to walk you through aroutine. Enjoy!!
