On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank Blake McDavid for his strong and steadfast leadership this past year. Blake’s commitment to the goals that were set before him at our Chamber Board Retreat have been second to none. His family’s history in this area, his sincere commitment to our community, and his dedication to the Chamber’s mission, have made him someone that I am proud to follow in this very special honor of Chairman of the Board.I chose my theme for this year to be “Honoring our Heroes.”For the past three years we have seen the practical application of the oath taken by first responders, medical officials, and essential personnel, with the unwavering support of our citizens, weather unprecedented and catastrophic events from a national to local scale. Their dedication and self-sacrifice have stunned towns, states, and a nation. From a child greeting his favorite sanitation worker to the entire city of New York honoring the individuals putting themselves in harm’s way at seven o’clock every night, we have seen countless instances that prove the human spirit is indomitable and kind.

This year’s Chamber mission will continue our tradition of enhancing our existing infrastructure and expanding in ways that improve the local quality of life for our citizens, our environment, and our businesses.The diversity in backgrounds, specialties, and strengths in the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce can easily achieve greatness, I also think we can take it further.We have our Board of Directors Retreat where we will determine a strategic path for the Chamber for the coming year. We will tackle five important areas and establish a strategy and action plan to accomplish that task. I am proud of each of the 20-plus councils, committees and events of the Chamber. I will do my best to assist in any way possible. I am available at any time to discuss or talk about any questions you may have. Rosita’s April Business of the Month AwardThe Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce recognized Rosita’s Taco Shop as its Business of the Month for April. Chamber board members, Business Builders, Bay Blazers, and staff were joined by video conference Thursday, April 2 to celebrate the recognition. Currently owned and operated by Zac and Monica Partenheimer, Rosita’s Taco Shop has been serving meals to the community for 27 years. Monica’s parents, Frank and Angela Sandoval, previously ran the establishment prior to the Partenheimer’s ownership. The restaurant is known as a somewhat hidden gem being a hometown favorite for the locals wanting to get their taco fix. Don’t be surprised to find a line out the door especially at peak times during breakfast and lunch. Rosita’s scored high on the matrix in the areas of community involvement and years of service. As we move forward during the summer months, we are all going to face difficult situations, adversities, abnormalities and loads of discomfort. Our community has been through so much therefore we can get through this as well. We need all of you to stay strong. This is the time to focus on a home project to keep your mind occupied on the positive. Possibly do that addition or rearranging something in your business. I know you don’t feel like doing those things at this moment but it is important we keep moving forward. With that being said, here’s what happening… The annual banquet went virtual. All awards were presented as best as possible. I am sure many of you watched the live streaming on YouTube and the auction on Facebook. Thank you to everyone for their support. We are extremely grateful to be able to break even on that event. Over the next several weeks, we feel it is important to bring you community updates via Facebook Live at 10 am on Wednesdays. Go to the Chamber’s page at @RockportFultonChamber. We will continue our meetings on ZOOM and in person as best as we can. Please adhere to the mask request by local officials when we are not able to be 6 feet a part. Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes & CrematoryCharlie Marshall Funeral Home’s Rockport location was demolished during Hurricane Harvey’s Landfall on the Texas coast 2017. The staff of Charlie Marshall Funeral Home embarked on immediate restoration to revive the historic facility.
