Prayer for Forgiveness (Mehilah)

As I sit in remembrance of you, I pray that I may be

forgiven for any unkind work or deed, for any moment

of pain or anguish I ever caused you, for any thoughtless

or selfish act, for any sin of commission or omission

toward you. “For there is no one so righteous on earth

who does good only and sins not.” Before God I declare

that I bear no ill will for any wrong which you may have

wittingly or unwittingly committed against me.

May the recollections of all that was good and noble in

your life inspire me to walk ever more firmly in the path

of righteousness, to serve humanity ever more nobly.

May God grant you peace. May your soul be bound up

in the bond of eternal life, together with the souls of all

the righteous. Amen.

For A Mother

Eternal God, as I sit in remembrance of my dear mother, I

feel her presence everywhere about me. In this hour she

seems so close to me as when she lived in the flesh. I hold

in grateful memory all the loving sacrifices she made in

my behalf - the sleepless hours she spent in watching over

me and in tending me through long nights of illness and

pain. She was my counselor, understanding all my childish

moods and notions, faithfully helping me to resolve all

doubts and fears. From her lips I first learned about You,

O God, and your eternal teachings; at her knee I was

impressed with the blessedness of kindness, truth and

honor. Every noble impulse, every unselfish deed, every

worthwhile achievement in my lifetime - all are due to

her inspiration and influence.

O Eternal One, for all my mother’s years of love and

devotion, I give You thanks. Grant that the memories

which this Yahrzeit evokes inspire me to cherish the

priceless legacy my mother bequeathed unto me. May I

follow all my days the path of righteousness she set before

me. I pray, O God, You will keep her dear ones who loved

her, united in harmony and affection. And, when at last, I

am summoned unto You, may I be worthy to be united

with my mother in the bond of eternal life. Amen.

For A Father

Eternal God, at this moment of Yizkor, the memory of my

father’s life passes before me. I reverently recall the years

we shared together. Time cannot efface the measure of his

devotion. I shall ever be grateful for the sacrifices he

made in my behalf! Unsparingly he toiled to rear and

sustain me. With affection and understanding he stood at

my side to guide and encourage me when I needed help.

He taught me to love You, O God, and to keep Your

commandments.

O heavenly Creator, may the memories which this Yizkor

evokes be an incentive to noble living. Grant that the

recollection of my father’s life and teachings help me to

uphold the faith and heritage which he transmitted unto

me.

I pray O God, keep his dear ones who loved him, united in

my side sharing trials and fears, dreams and hopes,

triumphs and disappointments, joys, and sorrows.

Memories of our years together - her solicitude, her

tender devotion, her friendship, and her true, abiding

love - temper the pain of my loss.

O heavenly Creator, strengthen my sorrowing heart.

Grant that the memories evoked by this Yizkor bring

solace in my days of loneliness. May these precious

memories spur me on fearlessly and courageously to

meet any trial or obstacle that life may hold. In tribute

to my dear one who brought me cheer and joy, may I,

through acts of loving kindness, bring cheer into the

lives of others. Grant that the soul of my beloved wife

be bound up in the bond of eternal life. Amen.

For A Husband

Eternal God, as I remember my dear husband, I recall

Fortify me with courage that I may bravely continue my

daily tasks. May the precious memories of my beloved

daughter deepen my love for others so that I may bring

sweetness to those who have known bitterness and light

to those who dwell in darkness.

May I find consolation in serving others and so live that,

when the days of my life come to an end, I shall be

worthy to be united with my child in the bond of eternal

life. May her memory remain a comfort and blessing.
