About 20 years ago, Powell-moved to Virginia where hewould go on to interview a num-ber of veterans from Virginia andWashington, D.C., many of thembeing old acquaintances of his fa-ther.

The Seneca High School Classof 2018 likes to have some funwhile it raises money.

On Tuesday, March 31, themain gym played host to a Corn-hole/KanJam tournament. Onehundred and eight students cameready to compete, sporting theirGolden Eagle pride with theiroutfits.

“We have a series of differenttournaments. We play dodgeballand volleyball as well,” said JayDonoghue, who was in charge of the event.

The student government forthe freshman class got together toformulate the idea for the event.

It is something they have beenplanning since January, so theywere able to get a hold of numer-ous Cornhole boards and Kan-

Jam sets from various places. There were a lot of people whobrought their personal sets from

home to help.

It was the mid ‘80s, my futurehusband and I were camping inPennsylvania. Since it wasFourth of July, we found a smalllittle town that had fireworks.

As the grand finale ap-proached, he kept saying, “Youhave to look over here!” while I'msaying, “Wait, it's the finale!” Heinsisted, and when I turnedaround, he was holding a little

box with my engagement ring init. He wanted to make sure that hegave it to me just as the grand fi-nale started. What a romantic! Isaid yes and we've just passed our25th anniversary.

The war sto-ries he re-trieved, andphysically vis-iting the siteshis father de-scribed, en-

ables Powell tocreate out-standing art-work.

He spendsmany months, sometimes evenyears, creating each intricate de-tail to ensure a very realistic feelto his dioramas. All his art iscompleted entirely by himself, working in his machine shop.

His pieces are now on displayat his home in Tabernacle, but heoriginally would cart themaround in Virginia when he livedthere. Powell would bring themaround and give lectures to thekids, relaying stories that werepassed down to Bruce from his fa-ther.

“The kids couldn’t get enoughof it, and it made me happy to seehow intrigued they were, so Iwould educate them about thewar,” Powell said.
