GENERAL SAFETY NOTICES

The following general safety notices supplement the specific warnings and cautions appearing elsewherein this manual. They are recommended precautions that must be understood and applied during operation andmaintenance of the equipment covered herein. Should situations arise that are not covered in the general or spe-cific safety precautions, the commanding officer or other authority will issue orders as deemed necessary to coverthe situation. DO NOT REPAIR OR ADJUST ALONE

Under no circumstances shall repair or adjustment of energized equipment be attempted alone. The imme-diate presence of someone capable of rendering aid is required. Before making adjustments, be sure to protectagainst grounding. If possible, adjustments should be made with one hand, with the other hand free and clear ofequipment. Even when power has been removed from equipment circuits, dangerous potentials may still exist dueto retention of charges by capacitors. Circuits must be grounded and all capacitors discharged prior to attempt-ing repairs.

TEST EQUIPMENT

Make certain test equipment is in good condition. If a metal-cased test meter must be held, ground the caseof the meter before starting measurement. Do not touch live equipment or personnel working on live equipmentwhile holding a test meter. Some types of measuring devices should not be grounded; these devices should notbe held when taking measurements.

MOVING EQUIPMENT

Personnel shall remain clear of moving equipment. If equipment requires adjustment while in motion, asafety watch shall be posted. The safety watch shall have a full view of the operations being performed, andimmediate access to controls capable of stopping equipment motion.

FIRST AID

An injury, no matter how slight, shall never go unattended. Always obtain first aid or medical attentionimmediately, and file an injury report in accordance with OPNAVINST 5102.1, Mishap Investigation and Report-ing.

RESUSCITATION

Personnel working with or near high voltages shall be familiar with approved methods of resuscitation.Should someone be injured and stops breathing, begin resuscitation immediately. A delay could cost the victim’slife. Resuscitation procedures shall be posted in all electrically hazardous areas.

CHAPTER 1

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND GENERAL INFORMATION

1-1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.

Safety precautions are necessary for the protection of personnel and equipment. Refer to the Safety Summaryin this technical manual for an overview of all existing warnings and cautions as they appear throughout this text.The Safety Summary must be read and understood before any maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair tasks forthis equipment can be accomplished.

1-2. INTRODUCTION.

This technical manual contains the instructions required to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and install Dyna-lec airflow indicator panel (AIP) model 62413-100. (See figure 1-1.) This microprocessor-based airflow monitor-ing system will utilize the following components, depending upon installation location and monitoring require-ments:

a. Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD), Digital or Analog (figure 1-2)

b. Dynalec Pinwheel Sensor Models 62413-005 and 006 (figure 1-3)

c. Dynalec External Audible Alarm Model 62413-240 (figure 1-4)

1-3. DESCRIPTION.

1-3.1 GENERAL. Dynalec AIP model 62413-100 monitors the airflow in ducts, displays the absolute airflowin feet per minute (ft/min) on an alphanumeric display, and activates alarms if the airflow falls below a userspecified setpoint. User adjustable equipment settings are provided for adjusting the unit’s functionality for dif-ferent operating environments. The physical characteristics of the AIP are listed in table 1-1. A list of displayfunctions, including the codes which may appear in the alphanumeric display and the associated definitions, isimprinted on the top left of the AIP front panel. The instructions for viewing and changing equipment settingsare imprinted on the bottom left of the AIP front panel. These instructions are described in chapter 2.

1-3.2 Alphanumeric Display. The alphanumeric display is a series of light-emitting diodes (LED) which nor-mally display absolute airflow measurements from the external sensor. The display will show failure messagesduring a failure condition or equipment settings if the SELECT pushbutton switch is depressed.

1-3.2.1 Airflow Display. The display of the absolute airflow measurement is the normal display mode and isthe default display when the AIP is turned on. The absolute airflow measurement is displayed as a 3-letter codefollowed by the 4-digit airflow measurement in ft/min.

1-3.2.2 Failure Message Display. During an alarm condition, or a combination of alarm conditions, the displayshows each of the failure messages in succession, for 1 second each, followed by a 1-second display of the air-flow reading. These messages are displayed until the alarm conditions are rectified. Alarm conditions aredescribed in paragraph 1-3.6.

1-3.2.3 Adjustable Settings. The AIP has a number of user adjustable settings, including the brightness of theLED displays, sensor types in use, and alarm setpoints. These settings can be reviewed by depressing theSELECT pushbutton switch. A different setting is displayed each time the SELECT pushbutton switch isdepressed until the display returns to the airflow measurement display.

1-3.3 Bar Graph Display. The bar graph display is a series of nine LEDs (three red, one yellow, and five green).This display gives a quick indication of measured airflow relative to the alarm setpoint. (The alarm setpoint is acustomer-specified setting of the minimum desirable airflow in ft/min.) The single yellow LED represents thealarm setpoint. When this LED is illuminated, the measured airflow is exactly at the alarm setpoint. If one ormore red LEDs are illuminated, airflow is below the alarm setpoint. If one or more green LEDs are illuminated,airflow is above the alarm setpoint.

1-3.4 Audible and LED Alarms. An audible alarm at the upper right of the AIP front panel emits a loud toneduring most alarm conditions. (See figure 1-1.) To turn this alarm off, depress the SILENCE pushbutton switch.Two LEDs, the ALARM LED and the BATTERY LED, are located directly below the audible alarm speaker. TheALARM LED is illuminated during an alarm condition and remains illuminated until alarm conditions are recti-fied. (The ALARM LED does not turn off when the SILENCE pushbutton switch is depressed.) The BATTERYLED blinks periodically while the equipment is operating on ac power to show that the system is periodicallychecking the battery. When the BATTERY LED is continuously illuminated rather than blinking, the system isoperating on internal battery power.

1-3.5 Front Panel Pushbutton Switches. (See figure 1-1.) Depress the SELECT pushbutton switch to display theuser adjustable equipment settings in the alphanumeric display. Use the UP and DOWN pushbutton switches tochange an equipment setting as it appears in the alphanumeric display. Depress the SILENCE pushbutton switchto silence all audible alarms.

1-3.6 Description of Output Signals. The AIP generates four output signals; the external alarm, ac alarm, Tri-state alarm, and analog output signal.

1-3.6.1 External Audible Alarm. The external audible alarm is a +11 Vdc ± 20 percent signal measured acrossterminals TB1-3 (positive) and TB1-4. The external audible alarm output signal is 100 mA maximum and isintended to drive a Dynalec Model 62413-240 external audible alarm.

1-3.6.2 Alarm. The ac alarm is a 115VAC ± 10 percent signal measured across terminals TB1-6 and TB1-9.The ac alarm output signal is intended to drive an external bell and is fused at 2A by F1 and F2.

1-3.6.3 Tri-state Alarm. (See figure 3-2 with Lambda Power Supply or figure 3-3 with Kepco Power Supply.)The Tri-state alarm provides alarm status to type IC/SM (MIL-A-17196) alarm panels. During normal operation,relay K1 is energized, and relay K2 is deenergized. Under these conditions, a resistance of 6.8 Kohms ± 10 per-cent is present across both TB2-8 and TB2-10, and TB2-8 and TB2-9. During alarm conditions listed in table1-2, K2 is energized and a resistance of less than 1 ohm is present across terminals TB2-8 and TB2-10, and aresistance of greater than 100 Kohms is present across terminals TB2-8 and TB2-9.

1-3.6.4 Analog Output Signal. The AIP provides an analog output signal which is proportional to the measuredairflow. The RTD sensor and the 5-pin (5,000 ft/min) pinwheel sensor each provide an analog signal which var-ies linearly from 0 to 10 Vdc for airflow measurements of 0 to 5,000 ft/min.

1-3.7 Silence Pushbutton Switch. The SILENCE pushbutton switch is used to silence all audible alarms duringan alarm condition. Depressing the SILENCE pushbutton switch will deenergize the front panel alarm, externalalarm, and ac power failure alarm. Depressing the SILENCE pushbutton switch does not alter the LED readoutnor the Tri-state alarm signal.

CHAPTER 2

OPERATION

2-1. INTRODUCTION.

Chapter 2 provides operating procedures for the Dynalec AIP. Operation of the AIP model 62413-100 (figure2-1), with the exception of the ON/OFF toggle switch (S1) and the MODE pushbutton switch, is controlled fromthe front panel of the AIP. The complete system is comprised of the AIP and the remote sensor assembly whichis installed in the duct to be monitored. The front panel controls and indicators required for the operation of theAIP are provided in table 2-1.

Alarm LED Illuminates during an alarm condition and, as long as power is available,remains illuminated until the alarm conditions are cleared.

Alphanumeric Display Consists of a series of LEDs which display absolute airflow measurementsfrom the external sensor. Also displays failure messages or equipment set-tings if the SELECT pushbutton switch is depressed.

Audible Alarm Emits a loud tone during most alarm conditions. Depressing the SILENCEpushbutton switch will turn the tone off.

Bar Graph Display Consists of a series of nine LEDs (three red, one yellow, and five green)which gives a quick indication of measured airflow relative to the alarmsetpoint. The single yellow LED represents the alarm setpoint.

Battery LED Visual display of battery status. Periodically blinks when the AIP is operat-ing on ac power. Shows steady when AIP is being powered by the internalbattery.

SELECT Pushbutton Switch Depress to display the user adjustable equipment settings in the alphanu-meric display. Equipment settings are listed in table 2-3.

SILENCE Pushbutton Switch Silences all audible alarms except the Tri-state alarm signal.UP/DOWN Pushbutton Switches Depressing these pushbutton switches changes an equipment setting when

displayed in the alphanumeric display in the user data entry mode. (Refer totable 2-2.) Options for each setting are described in table 2-3.

2-2. OPERATING PROCEDURES.

2-2.1 Energizing the AIP. To energize the AIP, open the front panel and place the ON/OFF toggle switch (S1,figure 2-2) to ON. The indicator lamp adjacent to the ON/OFF toggle switch (S1) will illuminate. Close the frontpanel. The AIP has two modes of operation, the normal display mode, and the user data entry mode. Upon ini-tial startup, the AIP will be in the normal display mode.

2-2.2 Normal Display Mode. In the normal display mode, the alphanumeric display shows the absolute airflowreading and any failure messages. Refer to table 2-2 for alphanumeric display codes. Depress the SELECT push-button switch to cycle through the list of equipment settings and return to the airflow reading. The only equip-ment setting which can be changed while in this mode is the brightness of the alphanumeric and LED displays.To change the brightness level, depress the SELECT pushbutton switch until the alphanumeric display shows theDIM code and the display flashes. Then, either depress the UP pushbutton switch to increase the brightness ofthe displays or depress the DOWN pushbutton switch to decrease the brightness.

2-2.3 User Data Entry Mode. In the user data entry mode, the equipment settings can be changed. To place theAIP in the user data entry mode, open the front panel and depress the MODE pushbutton switch located on theinside bottom of the front panel. (See figure 2-2.) The alphanumeric display will now include an underscore ( _) after the absolute airflow reading and any failure messages. Close the front panel. Use the SELECT pushbuttonswitch to scroll through the different equipment settings. Each time the SELECT pushbutton switch is depressed,a different equipment setting code will appear in the alphanumeric display and the display will flash on and offat 1/2- second intervals. Equipment setting positions are provided in table 2-3. This setting can then be changedby depressing the UP or DOWN pushbutton switch. (Refer to table 2-4 for equipment setting codes.) Each timethe UP or DOWN pushbutton switch is depressed, the equipment setting is changed incrementally. Holding theUP or DOWN pushbutton switch longer than 4 seconds will cause the setting choices to scroll rapidly. Releas-ing the UP or DOWN pushbutton switch selects the setting displayed in the alphanumeric display. This becomes

the new equipment setting. To return to the normal display mode, open the front panel and depress the MODEpushbutton switch. The alphanumeric display will indicate absolute airflow and any failure messages. Close thefront panel.

NOTE

If the AIP is left in the user data entry mode for more than 5 minutes and theSELECT pushbutton is not depressed, the AIP will return to the normal displaymode.

2-3. LED DISPLAYS AND ALARM OUTPUTS.

CAUTION

Prior to testing LED displays and alarm outputs, notify watchstandersmonitoring remote alarm panels.

All LED displays and alarms can be tested simultaneously in either the normal display mode or user dataentry mode. Depress the SELECT pushbutton switch on the front panel until TEST IO appears in the alphanu-meric display. Depress and hold either the UP or DOWN pushbutton switch. All LEDs, including the alphanu-meric display segments, bar graph LEDs, and alarm and battery LEDs, will be illuminated. In addition, all alarmoutputs including the front panel audible alarm, external alarm, ac alarm, and Tri-state alarm will be activated.Release the UP or DOWN pushbutton switch to stop the test. Depress the SELECT pushbutton switch until thefeet per minute (FPM) code and current airflow measurement are displayed.

NOTE

If the AIP is left in the TEST IO setting for more than 5 minutes and anotherpushbutton switch is not depressed, the AIP will automatically return to the nor-mal display mode.

2-4. DESCRIPTION OF ALARM CONDITIONS.

The AIP constantly monitors a variety of conditions which indicate proper system operation. When the unitdetects an alarm condition, a failure message is generated and the appropriate alarm output signals are activated.The alarm conditions are low airflow, sensor failure, ac power failure, battery failure, and total power failure.

2-4.1 Low Airflow. If airflow is less than the alarm setpoint for a longer time than the specified alarm delayperiod, a low airflow alarm condition is generated. The alphanumeric display then alternates between displayingthe measured airflow and the FLOW LOW failure message (and any other failure messages which may apply) at1-second intervals. On the front panel, the audible alarm and the ALARM LED indicator are activated. Theexternal audible alarm, the ac alarm, and the Tri-state alarms are also activated.

2-4.2 Sensor Failure. Each of the sensors which are capable of operating with the AIP have different failuremodes. The analog RTD constantly provides an analog current which corresponds to the measured airflow. This

current is typically between 250 mA and 500 mA for airflow measurements between 0 and 5,000 ft/min. A sen-sor failure is present if the output current of the sensor falls below 235 mA or exceeds 515 mA. Two differentpinwheels, one to measure 1,000 ft/min and one to measure 5,000 ft/min, may be used with the AIP. The pin-wheel generates a switch opening frequency corresponding to the airflow. A nonspinning pinwheel will cause asensor failure alarm. If the appropriate failure condition for the sensor type being used is present, the alphanu-meric display stops displaying the measured airflow and displays the SNR FAIL message, alternating with anyother existing failure messages at 1-second intervals. On the front panel, the audible alarm and the ALARM LEDindicator are activated. The external audible alarm, the ac alarm, and the Tri-state alarms are also activated.

2-4.3 AC Power Failure. If the AIP loses ac power for longer than the specified ac alarm delay period, an acpower failure alarm condition is generated. The alphanumeric display then alternates between displaying themeasured airflow and the AC FAIL failure message (and any other failure messages which may apply) at1-second intervals. On the front panel, the audible alarm and the ALARM LED indicator are activated. Also, theexternal audible alarm is activated.

2-4.4 Battery Failure. The AIP periodically checks the voltage of the internal battery to determine its capacityto support the system. If the battery voltage drops below 9.5 volts, a battery failure alarm condition is generated.The alphanumeric display then alternates between displaying the measured airflow and the BAT FAIL failuremessage (and any other failure messages which may apply) at 1-second intervals. On the front panel, the audiblealarm and the ALARM LED indicator are activated. In addition, the external audible alarm and the ac alarm areactivated.

2-4.5 Total Power Failure. A fully charged battery can support the system for a minimum of 30 minutes afterthe loss of ac power. A total power failure condition is present if the battery voltage has dropped below 9.5 voltsand there is still no ac input power. If this occurs, the Tri-state alarm is activated to indicate a fault condition.When power is restored to the system, the PWR FAIL failure message appears and the ALARM LED indicatoris activated, showing that all available power to the system was lost. This message is alternately displayed withthe measured airflow message (and any other failure messages which may apply) at 1-second intervals.

2-5. RESPONDING TO AN ALARM.

During an alarm condition, the local and external audible alarms are activated and the alphanumeric displayflashes the airflow reading and one or more failure messages for 1 second each. Depress the SILENCE pushbut-ton switch to turn off the local and remote audible alarms. Read the alarm code on the alphanumeric display todetermine cause of alarm condition. Refer to Chapter 5 to assist in troubleshooting cause of alarm.

CHAPTER 3

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

3-1. INTRODUCTION.

Chapter 3 provides a detailed description of the Dynalec airflow indicator panel (AIP) model 62413-100(figure 2-1). The AIP is designed to automatically measure and monitor the rate of airflow in the exhaust ductsof compartments. The system can be set by the operator to activate audible and visual alarms when the airflowrate decreases below an operator specified level. The AIP is a micro-processor-based system which interfaces witha resistance temperature detector (RTD) or a pinwheel airflow detector. The AIP can be adjusted by the user tooptimize its performance in specific environments.

Illustrations show major parts and detailed electrical functions. See figure 3-1 for the functional block dia-gram, figure 3-2 or figure 3-3 for the schematic diagram, and table 3-1 for the inputs and associated outputs. Seefigure 3-4 and figure 3-5 for component locations for PCB Assembly, Power Management and Processor circuitcards.

3-2. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF THE AIP.

The AIP system is comprised of the Dynalec AIP model 62413-100 and one sensor assembly. (See figure 3-1.)The default sensor for the AIP is Dynalec digital RTD, model 62413-200. Other sensor options include the 1-pinpinwheel sensor (1,000 ft/min), Dynalec model 62413-005; the 5-pin pinwheel (5,000 ft/min), Dynalec model62413-006; and any Navy-approved analog RTD. An external audible alarm Dynalec Model 62413-240 may beconnected to the external alarm terminals. All operator interaction with the AIP occurs at the front panel. Thefront panel provides the operator with the means to monitor the status of the airflow rate in a specific airduct,select an airflow system parameter for display, and change system parameters. The AIP consists of three printedcircuit boards (PCB) (power management board, display board, and processor board) and a power supply. Referto table 3-1 for the inputs to and outputs from the AIP.

3-2.1 Power Management PCB Assembly (A1) Board. The power management board (Dynalec part number62413-145) controls battery charging, regulates the main system direct current, buffers the pinwheel input signal,and operates the supply and battery relays. (See figure 3-2 with Lambda Power Supply or figure 3-3 with KepcoPower Supply.)

3-2.2 Display PCB Assembly (A3) Board. The display board (Dynalec part number 62413-120) controls anddrives the alphanumeric display LEDs, the bar graph display LEDs, and the alarm indicator LED.

3-2.3 Processor PCB Assembly (A2) Board. The processor board (Dynalec part number 62413-140) processesall other inputs and outputs not listed with the power management board or the display board. The MODE push-button switch is located on the processor board.

NOTE

Two factory adjusted and locked potentiometers are located on the processorboard and one is located on the power management board. No adjustment ofthese potentiometers is required. Incorrect adjustment of these potentiometersmay lead to inaccurate operation of the AIP.

NOTE

Due to the obsolescence of the original (Lambda) power supply the manufacturerswitched to a new (Kepco) power supply. The Lambda power supply had an out-put signal indicating the status of the output voltage of the supply. The Kepcopower supply does not have these signals and, as a result, this functionality hasbeen incorporated into the Power Management PCB Assembly (A1) Board(62413-145). Additionally a second powerline filter, FL2, was added to improvethe EMI performance of the AIP with the Kepco power supply.

3-2.4 Power Supply. (See figure 3-2 with Lambda Power supply or figure 3-3 with Kepco Power Supply.) Thepower supply is a switching ac/dc type designed for controlled, efficient operation when ac power is being sup-plied to the unit. Ship’s 115VAC power is filtered to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI). Additional fil-tration and regulation of power supply output, as well as the battery charging circuitry, are present on the powermanagement board. Main ac input power to the AIP is constantly monitored, and the system automaticallyswitches to internal battery power if input ac power is lost. The AIP can operate off of a fully charged battery fora minimum of 30 minutes. The recharge time for a fully discharged battery is approximately 20 hours.

3-2.5 Data Acquisition and Processing. (See figure 3-2 with Lambda Power Supply or figure 3-3 with KepcoPower Supply.) Inputs to the AIP are on TB2 connections. The data input is then connected to the power man-agement board through the PC plug (P1) and jack (J1). The signal is then connected to the processor board viajack J2/plug P2 to plug P4/jack J4. The processor board is responsible for controlling and coordinating the over-all operation of the system. The built-in test capability will be used to determine the functional condition of theAIP. The AIP accomplishes the following processing tasks:

a. Causes the display board to display the appropriate equipment setting.

b. Causes the display board to display the absolute airflow rate.

c. Causes the display board to display the relative airflow rate in relationship to the alarm setpoint on a colorcoded bar graph display.

d. Activates the appropriate alarms to warn the operator and watchstanders when an alarm condition occurs.

e. Responds to operator entries made via the system’s pushbutton switches.

f. Testing when the TEST IO setting is selected and either the UP or DOWN pushbutton switches are depressed.

g. System monitoring functions for sensor operation, airflow, and power supply.

h. Generates appropriate output signals.

3-2.6 Displays. The AIP uses LEDs to inform the operator of the current status of the system and of the air-flow rate within the air duct. (See figure 2-1.)

3-2.6.1 Alphanumeric Display. The display of the absolute airflow measurement is the normal display modeand is the default display whenever the AIP is turned on. The absolute airflow measurement is displayed in feetper minute (FPM) followed by the four-digit airflow measurement. The AIP receives sensor data once every sec-ond and averages this data over a selected period before updating the display. The averaging period has a factorydefault setting of 30 seconds, but it may be changed, if required. The display shows the average of the previous30-second airflow readings rather than the actual airflow at any given second. This prevents the alphanumericdisplay from flickering.

3-2.6.2 Bar Graph Display. The actual value in ft/min of each LED depends on the combination of the alarmsetpoint and the upper end of the bar graph range. The factory default alarm setpoint is 1,000 ft/min, and theupper end of the bar graph range is set at 5,000 ft/min. Both of these setpoints are programmable locally. Thevalue of each LED at the default settings is shown in figure 3-6.

To calculate the number of ft/min represented by the red LEDs, divide the alarm setpoint by 3 (since there arethree red LEDs). To calculate the number of ft/min represented by the green LEDs, subtract the alarm setpointsetting from the bar graph range setting and divide the result by 5 (since there are five green LEDs.) Using theexample of the factory-installed settings:

1,000 ft/min / 3 red LEDs = 333 ft/min per red LED

(5,000 ft/min - 1,000 ft/min) / 5 green LEDs = 800 ft/min per green LED

3-2.6.3 Alarm LED. The alarm LED illuminates during any alarm condition and will stay illuminated until thealarm is cleared.

3-2.6.4 Battery LED. The battery LED periodically flashes while the AIP is operating on ship’s ac power. Whenac power is lost and the AIP is being powered by the internal battery, the LED is continuously illuminated aslong as the battery has sufficient power.

3-2.7 Alarms. All alarm outputs, including the front panel alarm LED, the front panel audible alarm, the exter-nal audible alarm, the ac alarm, and the Tri-state alarm, are controlled by the processor board. (See figure 3-2with Lambda Power Supply or figure 3-3 with Kepco Power Supply.) The main switching device for the ac alarmoutput is the solid-state relay (K3). The main switching devices for the Tri-state alarm output are relays K1 andK2.

3-2.8 Analog Signal. (See figures 3-1 and figure 3-2 with Lambda Power Supply or figure 3-3 with KepcoPower Supply.) The AIP provides a 0 to 10 Vdc output proportional to the measured airflow. Depending on thesensor providing the measurement, the processor board sends data to the digital-to-analog (D/A) converter on theprocessor board for conversion. For all sensors other than the 1-pin pinwheel, the output of the D/A converter is0 Vdc for a 0 ft/min airflow and 10 Vdc for a 5,000 ft/min airflow. For the 1-pin pinwheel, the output of the D/Ais 0 Vdc for a 0 ft/min airflow and 10 Vdc for a 1,000 ft/min airflow.

SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE

4-1. INTRODUCTION.

4-1.1 Planned Maintenance System. Required preventive maintenance procedures to be accomplished on ascheduled basis are provided in Planned Maintenance System (PMS) documentation. OPNAVINST 4790.4describes this system and covers departmental and work center record keeping, as well as the Maintenance IndexPage (MIP) and Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRC). The MRCs include scheduled maintenance proceduresfor the airflow indicator panel.

4-1.2 Extent of Coverage. The extensive and comprehensive scheduled maintenance provided by the MRCseliminate the need for any coverage within this chapter. Specific corrective maintenance (repair) is covered inchapter 6.

CHAPTER 5

TROUBLESHOOTING

5-1. INTRODUCTION.

This chapter contains the troubleshooting procedures and other data required to locate and isolate faults inDynalec airflow indicator panel (AIP) model 62413-100. Technicians should understand the purpose and correctoperation of the AIP and should have read this entire manual before attempting to accomplish any troubleshoot-ing procedures.

5-2. PROCEDURES FOR ELECTROSTATIC SENSITIVE DEVICES.

Electrostatic damage to components is a significant problem which, in most cases, is preventable. Operationaltesting usually detects components destroyed by electrostatic discharge, but components with only slight damagemay function during testing and not be detected. Once returned to service, the field life of these components issignificantly lessened. Information to assist personnel with preventing electrostatic damage to equipment is pro-vided in paragraphs 5-2.1 through 5-2.3.

5-2.1 Handling Electrostatic Sensitive Components. Assembly or handling of (PCBs) which contain electro-static sensitive components should be accomplished in a static-controlled environment. Static-controlled environ-ments consist of electrically-grounded, conductive floor mats; bench top mats; personal wrist straps; stool covers;parts trays; a transformer isolated soldering station; a low-static discoloring tool; and an ionized air blower. Formore information on handling electrostatic sensitive components, refer to technical manual NAVSEA SE004-AK-TRS-010/2M. Electrostatic discharge sensitive (ESDS) PCBs are marked with the special symbol shown in figure5-1. When in doubt, treat subassemblies as ESDS.

5-2.2 Installation of Electrostatic Sensitive Subassemblies. Installation of electrostatic sensitive subassembliesmust be accomplished using portable antistatic equipment consisting of conductive floor mats, a ground strap withclip, and a personal wrist strap. Integral grounding of the main assembly and the technician (with a wrist strap)must be established before any subassembly is removed from its conductive plastic bag or before the subassem-bly is installed.

5-2.3 Packing Materials for Electrostatic Sensitive Subassemblies. Any spare part packed with black conduc-tive foam or in a black conductive plastic bag must not be removed from its packing material until the techni-cian is in a static-controlled environment. Conductive packing material removed from replacement spare partsshould be saved and used to pack defective items. Additional packing material must be applied over the conduc-tive packing if the item is to be shipped to the depot or manufacturer.

WARNING

The AIP has voltages capable of causing death or serious injury. Equipmentmay have more than one source of power. Whenever possible, secure allsources of power before working on this equipment. Under no circumstancesshould personnel reach inside the equipment without the immediate pres-ence of another person capable of giving aid.

To avoid causing new faults when troubleshooting, take care when removing and replacing parts. Beforeremoving a part, mark all connections to facilitate proper reconnection when the part is reinstalled or replaced.Tag and identify wires before removal for correct reconnection. If it is absolutely necessary to move wires outof the way for better access, do so carefully. When replacing electrical circuits, ensure all connections make goodcontact and all mechanical connections are secure.

5-4. TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES.

A troubleshooting guide listing symptoms, probable causes, and possible solutions is provided as table 5-1.Table 5-2 lists the possible alphanumeric display codes and corrective action. Also see the schematic diagramprovided as figure 3-2 with Lambda Power Supply or figure 3-3 with Kepco Power Supply when troubleshoot-ing. The AIP has been designed to minimize the requirements for troubleshooting and repair processes.

NOTE

Steps throughout the troubleshooting guide are applicable to airflow monitorsequipped with either the Kepco or Lambda power supplies unless otherwisespecified.

6. Switch (S1) (with KepcoPower Supply)

1. Confirm that 115VAC is present across the 2Cand 3C contacts (input) of S1. With S1 in the ONposition, confirm that 115VAC is present across the2NC and 3NC contacts (output) of S1. If power ispresent at the input and not the output, replace S1.(See figure 3-3.)

NOTE

Replacement of Lambda Power Supply (LZS-50-2) with a Kepco Power Supply (RAZ12-4.2K) will require replace-ment of the Power Management PCB Assembly (A1) Board, and installing a a second powerline filter, FL2.

7. Power Supply (PS1) 1. If 115VAC power is present at the input to thepower supply (PS1), confirm that approximately(+)13VDC is present at the supply’s output termi-nals (across DC OUTPUT (+) and (-) terminals).2. If DC output from the supply is not present,disconnect W3P1 from A1J1 to eliminate load onthe supply. If DC output is still not present, replacePS1.

8. Power Management PCBAssembly (A1)

1. If DC supply output returns when its load isdisconnected, disconnect W2P2 from A1J2 to iso-late the remainder of the system load. ReconnectW3P1 to A1J1 and check the output of the supplyfor approximately (+)13VDC. If the DC output isstill not present, replace A1 - Power ManagementPCB Assembly.

9. Processor PCB Assembly (A2) 1. If DC output power is present with W3P1reconnected, disconnect A2 - Processor PCBAssembly from A3 - Display PCB Assembly.Reconnect W2P2 to A1J2 and check the output ofthe supply for approximately (+)13VDC. 1. If the (+)10 to (+)13VDC battery voltage ispresent across the appropriate terminals of A1J1,confirm that a voltage between (+)4.9 and(+)5.1VDC is present across A1C3 (see figure 3-2or figure 3-3). If this voltage is not present, discon-nect W2P2 from A1J2 and again check for theappropriate voltage across A1C3. If this voltage isstill not present, replace A1 - Power ManagementPCB Assembly.

Verify that the sensor setting (i.e. SNR) matchesthe type of sensor connected to the panel and thatthe proper input terminals on TB2 are being used(i.e. 1 and 2 for ARTD or DRTD, 4 and 5 for1PIN or 5PIN). For RTD-type sensors, confirm thecorrect polarity has been observed.

2. Improper Air Flow 1. If a pinwheel sensor is being used, and theairflow is too low to spin the pinwheel, the “SNRFAIL” message will remain. If this is not the prob-lem, confirm the connections between the sensorand the unit. Then, confirm the connection betweenterminals 4 and 5 of TB2 and terminals 22 and 14of A1J1, respectively.

If this connection is notpresent, confirm the terminal 7 of A2U16 is con-nected to terminal 6 of A2J4. Check the connec-tion of the RTD INPUT line in the W2 cableassembly between A1 and A2. Replace W2 if nec-essary.

5. Failed Sensor 1. If all connections have been confirmed asacceptable, replace the sensor.

CHAPTER 6

CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE

6-1. INTRODUCTION.

This chapter contains corrective maintenance procedures for Dynalec airflow indicator panel (AIP) model62413-100.

6-2. SPECIAL TOOLS.

No special tools are required to repair or replace the components of the AIP. However, tools and equipmentrequired to protect the AIP from ESD are required. (Refer to technical manual NAVSEA SE004-AK-TRS-010/2MStandard Maintenance Practices Miniature/ Microminiature (2M) Electronic Assembly Repair.)

6-3. REPAIR PROCEDURES.

Repair, removal, and replacement procedures for the AIP and its components are provided in paragraphs 6-4through 6-15. Prior to accomplishing any corrective maintenance, verify all signal and power sources to ensurethe fault is definitely within the AIP. Technicians should be thoroughly familiar with the operation and construc-tion of the AIP, the components, and this manual prior to accomplishing corrective maintenance. The AIP hasbeen designed to minimize the time required to accomplish a corrective maintenance task. Most corrective tasksconsist of replacing the faulty item with a new item.

WARNING

The AIP has voltages capable of causing death or serious injury. Equipmentmay have more than one source of power. Whenever possible, secure allsources of power before working on this equipment. Under no circumstancesshould personnel reach inside the equipment without the immediate pres-ence of another person capable of giving aid.

CAUTION

The printed circuit boards (PCBs) are electrostatic discharge sensitive(ESDS) and are susceptible to damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD).Use ESD precautionary procedures when touching, removing, installing, orworking near these components.

NOTE

The AIP is delivered with preset, factory-loaded default parameter settings storedin the system’s microprocessor. These default settings are listed in table 2-4. Ifany of these settings are changed, ensure the new value(s) are within the accept-able range for the parameter setting. If a parameter is set to a value outside theacceptable range, the AIP will not function properly.

6-4. OPENING AND CLOSING THE AIP FRONT PANEL.

a. To gain access to the interior of the AIP, remove the four hex screws, flat washers, and lockwashers (8, 9, 10,figure 7-1) from the front panel and open the front panel. The front panel is attached to the enclosure by aflexible hinge located on the left-hand side of the enclosure.

b. Upon completion of repairs, close the front panel and apply loctite to four hex screws flatwashers and lock-washers (8, 9, 10) and reinstall the four hex screws (8) previously removed.

6-5. DEENERGIZING THE AIP.

Use a voltmeter to ensure circuits are deenergizedbefore touching any part of electrical circuits.

a. Open the front panel (refer to paragraph 6-4).

b. Place the ON/OFF toggle switch (23, figure 7-2) located in the bottom center of the enclosure to OFF. Whenthe ON/OFF toggle switch is in the OFF position, all electrical power, including battery power, is removedfrom the AIP. However, 115VAC power will still be present on TB2-11 and TB2-12 until the ship’s source isturned off or power input connector (J1) is disconnected from the terminal tube plate on the bottom of theAIP.

6-6. REMOVING AND REPLACING THE SENSOR.

c. To remove and replace the sensor assemblies, remove the fasteners in the mounting place to which the sen-sor is mounted (figures 1-2 and 1-3).

d. Remove the defective sensor and replace it with a new one. For a pinwheel type sensor, (figure 1-3) ensurethat the FLOW direction label on the sensor cover assembly is pointing in the same direction as the FLOWlabel on the mounting plate.

e. Reinstall fasteners to mounting.

f. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

g. Once the new sensor is installed and the system is energized, perform the Test IO to check AIP LED displaysand alarm outputs. (Refer to paragraph 2-3.)

6-7. REMOVING AND REPLACING THE EXTERNAL AUDIBLE ALARM.

Before working on any part of the AIP, place all switchesand circuit breakers in the open (off) position and tag the power source “Outof Service” in accordance with ship’s procedures to warn of a potentiallydangerous situation. Use a voltmeter to ensure circuits are deenergizedbefore touching any part of electrical circuits.

a. Place all switches and circuit breakers in the open (off) position and tag the AIP “Out of Service” in accor-dance with ship’s procedures.

b. Use a voltmeter to ensure circuits are deenergized.

c. Remove machine screws, flat washers, and lockwasher from the external audible alarm coverplate (figure7-4).

d. Remove the coverplate and disconnect the two input wires from terminal board TB1 (7).

e. Remove the input cable from the stuffing tube in the external audible alarm (1).

f. Remove the fasteners in the mounting plate to which the external audible alarm is mounted (8, 9, 10).

g. Remove defective external audible alarm (2) and replace with a new unit.

h. Reinstall fasteners to mounting plate (8, 9, 10).

i. Reinstall the input cable through the stuffing tube into the external audible alarm (1).

j. Reconnect the two input wires to terminal board TB1 (7).

k. Reinstall the cover plate onto the external audible alarm (1).

l. Reinstall machine screws, flat washers, and lockwashers.

m. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

c. To remove and replace the AIP, (6) remove all connectors from the terminal tube plate (1) on the bottom ofthe AIP. (See figure 7-3.)

d. Remove the three mounting screws which secure the AIP to the bulkhead.

e. Remove the AIP (6) and replace with a new one.

f. Reinstall the three mounting screws from AIP to the bulkhead.

g. Reconnect all connectors to the terminal tube plate (1).

h. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

i. Once the new AIP is energized, the default equipment settings may require change to match the settings ofthe previously installed unit. (Refer to paragraph 2-2.2 and table 2-3.)

Replacement of Lambda Power Supply (LZS-50-2) with a Kepco Power Supply(RAZ12-4.2K) will require replacement of the Power Management PCB Assem-bly (A1) Board, and installing a a second powerline filter, FL2.

d. Disconnect the wiring to the existing power supply (1). (See figure 3-2 with Lambda power supply or figure3-3 with Kepco power supply.)

e. Remove the four screws (2) and washers (3 and 4), and remove the power supply (1).

f. Install the new power supply, and reinstall screws (2) and washers (3 and 4).

g. Reconnect the wiring to the new power supply.

h. Close the front panel. (Refer to paragraph 6-4.)

i. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

j. Once the new power supply is installed and system energized, perform the Test IO to check AIP LED dis-plays and alarm outputs. (Refer to paragraph 2-3.)

c. Use a voltmeter to ensure circuits are deenergized.

e. Remove the screws (2) and washers (3 and 4) from the battery enclosure (7).

f. Remove the existing battery and replace with a new battery.

g. Reinstall screws (2) and washers (3 and 4) to the battery enclosure (7).

h. Reconnect cable assembly B (27) to the left-hand jack on the power management board (5).

i. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

j. Once the new battery is installed and system energized, perform the Test IO to check AIP LED displays andalarm outputs. (Refer to paragraph 2-3.)

6-11. REMOVING AND REPLACING THE POWER MANAGEMENT PCB ASSEMBLY (A1).

d. Disconnect cable assembly B (27) from the left-hand jack on the power management board (5).

e. Remove the screws (15) and washers (13 and 14) from each corner of the existing power management board(5).

f. Carefully lift the power management board (5), and disconnect the plug from the jack on the bottom right ofthe power management board (5) for cable assembly C (9).

g. Install the new power management board.

h. Reconnect cable assemblies B (27) and C (9).

i. Reinstall screws (15) and washers (13 and 14).

j. Close the front panel of the AIP (refer to paragraph 6-4).

k. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

l. Once the new power management board is installed and system energized, perform the Test IO to check AIPLED displays and alarm outputs. (Refer to paragraph 2-3.)

i. Reconnect cable assemblies A (31) and B (27), and reinstall screws (15) and washers (13 and 14).

j. Close the front panel of the AIP (refer to paragraph 6-4).

k. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

l. Once the new processor PCB assembly (A2) (28) is installed and system energized, perform the Test IO tocheck AIP LED displays and alarm outputs. (Refer to paragraph 2-3.)

g. Remove the existing display PCB assembly (A3) (32).

h. Install the new display PCB assembly (A3) (32).

i. Reinstall the hex heads standoffs (33).

j. Reconnect the leads to the Sonalert (2, figure 7-1).

k. Reinstall the processor PCB assembly (A2) (28). (Refer to paragraph 6-12.)

l. Close the front panel of the AIP. (Refer to paragraph 6-4.)

m. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s procedures.

n. Once the new display PCB assembly (A3) (32) is installed and system energized, perform the Test IO tocheck AIP LED displays and alarm outputs. (Refer to paragraph 2-3.)

f. Install the new Sonalert.

g. Reinstall the display PCB assembly (A3) (32). (Refer to paragraph 6-13.)

h. Close the front panel of the AIP. (Refer to paragraph 6-4.)

i. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

a. Place all switches and circuit breakers in the open (off) position and tag the AIP “Out of Service” in accor-dance with ship’s procedures.

b. To remove and replace any of the pushbutton switches or status LEDs located on the front panel of the AIP,open the front panel. (Refer to paragraph 6-4.) See figures 7-1 and 7-2.

c. Use a voltmeter to ensure circuits are deenergized.

CAUTION

The printed circuit boards (PCBs) are electrostatic discharge sensitive(ESDS) and are susceptible to damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD).Use ESD precautionary procedures when touching, removing, installing, orworking near these components.

d. To gain access to the rear of the pushbutton switches (4) and status LED (3 or 5), remove the processor PCBassembly (A2) (28) (refer to paragraph 6-12).

e. Desolder the wiring connections to the pushbutton switch (4) or status LED (3 or 5) to be replaced.

f. Remove the hex nut securing the pushbutton switch (4) or status LED (3 or 5) to the front panel.

g. Install the new pushbutton switch or status LED.

h. Solder the wiring connections to the pushbutton switch or status LED.

i. Reinstall the processor PCB assembly (A2) (28) (refer to paragraph 6-12).

j. Close the front panel (refer to paragraph 6-4).

k. Remove “Out of Service” tags, and restore the AIP to readiness condition in accordance with ship’s proce-dures.

l. Once the new pushbutton switch or status LED is installed and system energized, perform the Test IO to checkAIP LED displays and alarm outputs. (Refer to paragraph 2-3.)

7-1. INTRODUCTION.

This chapter identifies the parts of the Dynalec airflow indicator panel (AIP) model 62413-100 and the exter-nal audible alarm model 62413-240.

7-2. PARTS LIST DESCRIPTION.

The parts lists (tables 7-2 through 7-5) provide specific information on the parts of the AIP for replacementpurposes. Corresponding illustrations (figures 7-1 through 7-4) are also provided.

7-2.1 Figure and Index Number Column. This column identifies the number of the figure on which the partappears and further identifies the part by index number (part number on the figure). (For example, 7-1-1 is itemnumber 1 on figure 7-1.)

7-2.2 Name and Description Column. This column contains the name and descriptive data of each part so thatreplacement parts may be ordered from the original manufacturer. The military identification number is includedif available, and attaching parts are also identified.

7-2.3 Quantity Column. This column specifies the required quantities.

CHAPTER 8

INSTALLATION

8-1. INTRODUCTION.

This chapter provides installation and system interconnection/wiring data for the Dynalec model 62413-100.The interconnection information is provided in figure 8-1 and table 8-1. This installation and interconnectioninformation will be used by technicians to configure the AIP to support the specific suite of sensors and functionsassociated with the system. Refer to chapter 3 for the schematic and wiring diagrams for the AIP.

8-2. PHYSICAL INSTALLATION.

The AIP and the sensors are form, fit, and functional upgrade replacements for the existing airflow monitor-ing system and, as such, can be easily retrofitted onto existing shipboard airflow system installations. Both unitsof the AIP are mounted identically to current shipboard installations. The AIP utilizes the same footprint andbulkhead mountings utilized on the existing system. The panel-to-sensor resistance temperature detector (RTD)interface uses the existing two-wire cables. No wiring changes are required to upgrade an existing system to thenew airflow system. The mounting configurations and dimensions for the AIP are illustrated in figure 8-2.

8-3. INTERCONNECTION TABLE.

The two terminal boards referenced in table 8-1 are identified as terminal board 1 (TB1) and terminal board2 (TB2). Both of these terminal boards are mounted in the AIP on the lower right-hand side. Signal names, ter-minal board pin number identification for each signal line connection, and identification of all connectors requiredto implement the function required are provided.
