Everyone loves the summer time, but there are certain things about it that are a pain -- sandy feet, mosquito bites, and sunburn, to name a few. Lucky for you, we have some clever tips to help you combat summer's less-than-fun side so you can have the best summer ever.

  • Fill a few water bottles halfway and lay them horizontally in the freezer. When youre ready to go, take a bottle out of the freezer and fill it the rest of the way with water. The ice block on the side of the bottle will chill your water without blocking the opening!
  • Do ants invite themselves to all your backyard parties? Try this: put popcorn kernels in the blender until theyre ground up, creating homemade cornmeal. Sprinkle this anywhere you notice ant trails or colonies and theyll slowly disappear.
  • Speaking of pests, summer is a big time for fruit flies, and theres nothing worse than having them in your kitchen. To get rid of them, put something sweet in a cup like some sweet wine, or a few pieces of fruit then cover the cup with saran wrap and poke holes in it. Theyll go in for the treats, but they cant get out.
  • At barbecues, festivals, and concerts, you might end up having to eat your burger without a place to sit. If this is the case, turn it upside- down! The top of the bun is thicker and more durable, so it wont sag and drop your toppings
  • Mosquito bites are terribly itchy, but you dont want to scratch at them until they bleed. To stop the itch, dab it with a cotton ball soaked in vinegar. Sweet relief!
  • Vinegar has more soothing powers than you might think! If youre out of aloe, freeze it into ice cubes and rub them on your burnt skin for relief in a pinch.
  • Putting on your sandals with sandy feet is painful and annoying. Bring some baby powder with you for the end of the day sprinkling it on your skin helps to clump up sand and make it easy to brush away.
  • Most people dont know that theyre not applying enough sunscreen. It should take a shot glass amount of your favorite natural sunscreen to cover your entire body otherwise, youre not getting the coverage you hope for!
