This cool-looking convertible, the work of students from the ŠKODA SecondaryVocational School, is a dream come true for the younger generation. aving launched the project in October 2017, byJune 2018 the school workshops in Mladá Boleslav had engineered the ŠKODA SUNROQ, a new student car that has what it takes to plug a gap in the market. For five years now, the Azubi Car project has encouraged students at ŠKODA’s educational facilities to cast conventions aside, team up with with professionals to devise a unique car concept, and bring a brand new ŠKODA into the world. This year’s team numbered some 23 students studying a range of subjects at ŠKODA’s own trade school in Mladá Boleslav. marketers.Professionalswereathandeverystepofthewaytoconsulttheindividualstageswiththemandjudgewhethertheirplansandideaswerefeasible.
“TheinitialphasewasanopportunitytositdownwithŠKODA’sprofessionals.Whileitwasn’texactlystraightforward,wefounditveryconstructive.Andwhatwasthemostimportantlessonwelearnt?Definitelytheartofreasoning,whichissuretocomeinveryhandyinthefuture,”saidthestudentsastheydiscussedtheircar.
Eachyear,studentsuseoneofŠKODA’sproductioncarsasinspirationtodevelopanewvehicle.Thisyear,itwastheturnoftheŠKODAKAROQ.TheytookthispopularSUVandtransformeditintoaconvertible.ThestudentteamskilfullypairedtheadvantagesofbothcategoriestoinjecttheirownbrandoffunintotheSUVconcept.Thetargetcustomergroupisyoungadultswhomightneedenoughroomtoloadtheirsurfboards,butalsowanttofeelthewindintheirhairandsunontheirfacesintheirpursuitofadventure.Byallaccounts,thisispreciselywhythestudentspickedoutSUNROQasthebestnameputforwardbytheirFacebookfollowers.
SUNROQabouttomakeitsdebut
Comparedtootheryears,thenamingprocessforthenewstudentcarhasbeenratherunorthodoxbecause,besidesthinkingupnamesthemselves,thestudentsheldacontestforfollowersoftheŠKODAFacebookpage.Outofthebarrageofsuggestions,thestudentschoseSUNROQbecauseitbestreflectsthecar’sconcept–aconvertiblebathedinsunshinethatmakesfortheperfectcompaniononsummerholidays.Thesportscar’sdynamic,stylishdesignboldlystatesthattheSUNROQhasnotbeencreatedwiththeweeklyshopinmind.It’sforzippingalonginfunandsun.Anditcanhandlesomuchmorethanthelatestmotorways.BecauseitisanSUVatheart,thismodelisevenabletotakeonrougherterrain.TheSUNROQ’slength,width,andwheelbasearethesameastheKAROQ’s,andithas

keptthepowerfulfour-cylinder1.5TSIengine.Whereitdoesdiverge,ofcourse,isinthecompletelyrevampedbody.Aftergettingridoftheroof,theyoungdesignerssetaboutreconstructingthedoorsandredesigningtheAandBpillars.Thebackofthecar,completelyattheirmercy,wascompletelytransformed,sotheŠKODASUNROQcanprideitselfonanewfifthdoor.
Noteventhetiniestdetailslippedtheteam’sattention.TheteamgottheSUNROQ’slightdesigndowntoatee,withbacklithandlesanddirectionindicatorsfeaturingspecificdetails.Andifbyanychanceyouforgetwhatyou’redriving,takealookdownattheroadsurface–inthedark,theŠKODAlogoisprojectedontothegroundbyboththefrontandrearbumpers.TheSUNROQdoesnotonlyplaythedesigncard.ThankstotheoriginalSUVengine,youcangetto100kphwithin8,6seconds.Howaboutthemaximumspeed?Youcangetupto195kph.Everyyearitseemsthattheupcomingteamdoesnotstandachanceofcreatingaconceptthatcouldbeatthepreviousone.Nonetheless,thisyear’sAzubiCarbroughtanothermodelthatprovedthisnotioncompletelywrong.
Everyyear’snewteamisfacedwiththenear-impossiblechallengeofcreatingaconceptthatwouldovershadowthelastone.Thisyear’sAzubiCarproject,though,hasdeliveredanothermodelkickingestablishedconventionsintotouch.“Wewereheavilyinspiredbyoneofthepreviousmodels,theŠKODAATERO,whichwasunveiledbyourpredecessorsin2016.Ourmainambitionhasbeentobuildasportscarthatwillmesmerisetheyoungergenerationatfirstsight.Andwethinkweachievedthatverywell,”thestudentsagree.

ŠKODACITIJET,2014ThefirstprojectandthefirstopenŠKODAcompetitionaftermanydecades.The“LittleBruiser”asitwascalled,hadtowinitsplaceinthesunandcreatetheAzubiCarproject’sgoodnameinŠKODA.Andthat’swhatitdid.
ThestudentsdecidedtobuildastylishconvertiblebasedonthebasemodelCITIGO.Inside,twoseats;outsidetwocolors-blueandwhite.Bluealloysportswheelswerealsopaintedinblueandthecarfeaturedahand-manufacturedrearspoilerandatwopieceexhaust.Thissportytreasureranits1.0MPIgasengineat55kWofhorsepower.
ŠKODAFUNSTAR,2015Thesecondyearisperhapsadifficultpositiontobein,becausetheyearwasfullofexpectationsthatthesecondyear’sresultwouldoutperformthefirst’s.Studentsdidthebesttheycouldhowever,whentheycreatedanentirelynewcar.Courageous,originalandplayfull,theFUNSTARtookbreathesaway.

ŠKODAATERO,2016Thethirdapprenticevehicleinlinecouldnotaffordanyhesitation-theapprenticesspentanunbelievable1,300hoursontheATEROmodel.Theover-4metercoupewasbasedontheRAPIDSPACEBACKmodelandtherebuildingwasslightlylargerthantheprevioustwovehicles.
Sincetheroofofthecarslopedearlierthantheoriginalmodel,itwasnecessarytoremakeboththeBandCpillars,oralternatively,thesizeofthedoors.Buttheresultwasworthit.TheATEROisfantastic,veryemotionalcoupewhichradiateseverypassionforcarsthatisintheŠKODAbrand.Itmustbesaidthattheconceptofdreamswasn’tevenlostonthemarketeither.
ŠKODAELEMENT,2017TheŠKODAELEMENTisbasedonthesmallestmodelofferedbyŠKODA,theCITIGO,andispoweredbyanelectricmotor.
Itallows100%relaxationinthecountrysideoratthebeach.TheELEMENTalsohasarefrigeratoraswellasa108cm(diagonal)TV,whichislocatedonthelidofthefifthdoor.
