ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL (ACA)
This Sunday is MAKE UP SUNDAY of our 40th Annual Catholic Appeal for the continuing support
of our Diocese and its mission of outreach & service to so many ministries and needs. With the theme:
“LIVING OUR MISSION OF CHARITY”, this effort each year supports vocations to Priesthood &
Permanent Diaconate, Catholic Schools, family needs, catechists, lay formation, evangelization,
ministries to youth, young adults and assistance to the families of our Diocese & beyond. Envelopes are available in our Cathedral to present this opportunity to share personally in the all-embracing work of the “Greater Church”, the Diocese of Yakima. Please
prayerfully discern your response to this most necessary appeal to enable our Bishop & Diocese to fulfill their mission. Please return your pledges this
week to the Cathedral
1. Envelopes are available in the vestibule for the listing of your deceased family & friends-to be placed on the altar to be remembered at all Mass-es celebrated in the Cathedral during Novem-ber.
2. Our ALTAR OF THE DEAD is set up in the Baptistery area of the Cathedral on which you are invited to place photographs of your deceased as a reminder that our parish pray for them during November.
NOVEMBER: MONTH OF HOLY SOULS
MASS FOR DECEASED CLERGY
On Tuesday, November 19th at 5:30PM we, the Cathedral are privileged to host the
annual Diocesan Mass for Deceased Bishops, Priests & Deacons. Plan to join us as we
remember, uphold, pray for & honor all our deceased clergy who have served our people
in the Diocese of Yakima over the past 68 years since the establishment of the Diocese
of Yakima.
UPCOMING EVENTS
1. Mass on Thanksgiving Day will be offered at 9:00AM in our Cathedral. Please plan to join us on this day Thursday, November 28th!
2. Interfaith Celebration of Thanksgiving-Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday, November 27) 7:00PM in our Chapel. Join with our fellow believers of varying faiths of our community to thank God together.
3. Thanksgiving Dinner for our parish families & their guests especially those who would otherwise be alone on that holiday-3:00PM (with hors d’oeuvres at 2:30PM in our Cathedral Center (3rd floor of our former school building. POPE FRANCIS has designated next Sunday, November 17th, the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time as
the “World Day of the Poor”. He wrote “It will be a day that will help communities and each baptized person to reflect on how is at the heart of the Gospel and in the
fact that, as long a Lazarus lies at the door of our homes, there can be injustice or social peace.” This day
will represent a genuine form of new Evangelization which can renew the face of the Church as she
perseveres in her ongoing witness to mercy. May we open our eyes to see & our ears to hear the cry of the
poor!
