O Most Holy Mother of God, Save Us
“Mother of mercy, you are the bulwark that
always protects me from the wicked enemy.
He is fierce, he roars, he stalks me. Soon, soon
your help will save me from him. I call at all
times, I clamor in infirmity. With a mighty cry
I pray to you, Mother, pure Virgin. I entreat
you, most generous merciful Mother, hear my
voice, assuage my tears, I beg you, all-merciful
one. Let me raise my arms to your Son, O
Mother, Mother most gracious, entreat Him. I
pray to you, o Virgin; I call with a mighty
cry, bowing my head I crush my heart in
sighing.” (Anonymous 18th century Ukrainian chant)
We as Christians believe that; “there is only one
mediator between God and mankind, Himself a man, Christ
Jesus, who sacrificed Himself as a ransom for them all. He
is evidence of this sent at the appointed time…” (1 Tim 2; 5
-7) But we also believe that this appointed time was bound
up with a woman, Mary. The prophet Micah wrote
concerning the Jewish people; “Yahweh is therefore going
to abandon them till the time she who is to give birth gives
birth.” (5; 2) This verse immediately follows the prophecy
of Bethlehem as the Messiah’s birthplace. Hence saving
grace is directly tied to Mary, the woman who bore Jesus.
Mary is an instrument of salvation. She cooperated
and worked with, but did not initiate God’s saving grace.
Similarly when we are a channel of grace to someone, it
does not detract from Christ, but flows from Him and
builds up His Body. “We are God’s

3) (cont. on pg. 3)

co-workers…” (1 Cor 3; 9) and God’s work is salvation.
Therefore being united to Him we share in the work or
redemption. Mary shares in this work in a special way.
She cooperated with God’s grace and Jesus Christ, the God
-man was incarnate of her. Jesus is the New Adam and
Mary is the new Eve and she undid what the first Eve had
done. The first Eve disobeyed God and brought sin and
death into the world. The New Eve, Mary, believed God’s
message to her and obeyed, bringing salvation and life to
the world in her Son Jesus, who crushes the head of
the serpent.
The Catholic and Orthodox Churches have always had a
devotion to Mary, Mother of God, but some of the faithful
have misunderstood her proper place. Mary is not divine:
she can never be equal to God. She, like we participates
in the divine nature, though in a fuller deeper way. Due to
God’s will and her free and loving cooperation, she is
more intimately united to the divine nature. And so we
honor her as the crown and fruit of creation pleasing and
acceptable to God.
“We marvel, O Blessed Virgin that God could have found
among our sinful race a woman so pure and full of faith and
love that He would be born through her. There are no
words to describe how high and how blessed the grace of
God has made you. Since you were completely filled with
divine grace by the Holy Spirit, and the Heavenly King
dwelt in your womb, you are above all other humans and
higher than the angels.”
A BIG BOY THANK YOU!!
To everyone who attended our OLPH Sodality
fundraiser at Big Boy, a big THANK YOU. We had a
great turnout, I think of one our largest, 116 participants.
During the night, we held a couple of 50/50 raffles.
The winners of the raffle were Sister Rose Anne who
won $137.00 and Christine Farion who won $137.00 and
generously donated back $87.00 of her winnings. We also
received a $25 donation from Mr. & Mrs. Zubar, plus
anonymous donation of $14.00. So, in total we received
$400.00 just in raffles and donations. We anticipate to
receive anywhere from $160.00 to $200 from Big Boy’s
and that’s just from us eating. We also had 3 — $25
gift certificate door prizes and those winners were
Daria Remeniuk, Angela Goshko and Marko Farion.
Big Boy donated 3 pies and the winners were Marylou
Sudomir, Roma Remeniuk and Pauline Krupa who
donated her pie to Sister Rose Anne.
As you can see we try to make events fun for
everyone. Again, thank you for your continued support.
In total, this event will bring us $550-$600.00. All
of this helps to add funds for church renovations.

"Only the Holy Spirit can prompt your heart to say 'Father'
Only the Holy Spirit opens your heart to Love"
Pope Francis
"O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth,
everywhere present and filling all things. Treasury of blessings and Giver-of-Life:
come and abide in us, cleanse us of every impurity, and save our souls, O Good One."
This prayer to the Holy Spirit opens our liturgical services because we believe that it is only through the Holy Spirit that our life as Christians is effective for our healing and sanctification. It is the Holy Spirit who guides us, who encourages us, and who fills us with the life-giving grace of God the Son and the love of God the Father. It is for this reason that during the Divine Liturgy, we pray that we may be partakers in the communion of the Holy Spirit. Come and take part in a new Faith Formation video series on discovering a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit. Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR, will take us on a pilgrimage to discover and experience a life-giving relationship with the Holy Spirit. This is a relationship that will take us on the greatest adventure imaginable: a journey to the very heart of God. Come Holy Spirit!
Join us weekly starting Tuesday, October 3rd from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in our parish classroom.
