Fathers Day

and the decline of fatherhood in our society

'The divine fatherhood is the sources of human

fatherhood; this is the foundation of the honor owed to

parents. The respect of children, whether minor or adults,

for their father and mother is nourished by the natural

affection born of the bond uniting them. It is required

by God's commandment.' (Catechism of the Catholic

Church #2214)

In the Bible we find the word 'mother' written 283 times,

but the word 'father' is written 1123 times! The first word

a child says is 'mama', and the next word is 'daddy'. God

revealed Himself to us as a Father. Jesus Christ, the God

man was obedient to Mary His Mother and Joseph his foster

-father. Jesus spoke to His disciples about the Heavenly

Father and taught them the Lord's Prayer-Our Father. Jesus

tells us to "Be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect."

During his priestly prayer at the Last Supper, Jesus says

'Father' 115 times.

Today, on this Fathers Day we give greetings and gifts

to our fathers and pray for them. If there have been any

misunderstandings we try to reconcile with them. The father

deserves their children's love, respect and gratitude. The

father is the breadwinner earning support for the family,

and head of the family while the mother is the heart. Our

parents are God's representatives and co-workers in raising

their children. The Christian father should imitate God the

Father's love, goodness, generosity, justice and mercy.

The family is the core of society, and when the family

disintegrates, so does society. Many marriages have ended

up in divorce with parents sharing custody of the children.

Children are abused and die from abuse. Sometimes child

abuse is committed by the mother's inept, immature live in

boyfriend, and in many cases, by the parents themselves!

Many children are born out of wedlock minus a father to

raise them, and unfortunately, these children with no father

figure to cleave to, to anchor the family and guide their

children they underachieve in academics, life, and commit

violent crimes.

Msgr. Joseph A. Cirrincione, in his book 'St. Joseph,

Fatima and Fatherhood: Reflections on the Miracle of the

Sun' writes; "Since human fatherhood, as a reflection of the

Fatherhood of God, was designed to be the pillar of the

family, the disappearance of esteem for fatherhood has led

to the collapse and to the disintegration of the family." The

government is redefining the definition of marriage and

gender. The Feminist Movement began to shift from equal

opportunity to launch programs that were anti-God,

anti-capitalist, anti-male, anti-family fostering a hate

towards anything male. The media also reflects this by

portraying the father as a visitor orbiting around the family,

the parents are divorced and he has new wife and she has

a new husband, he cares little for the children, and is

portrayed as being inept, immature, and who is shown up

and put in his place by a snarky 11 year old boy.

To be a father is to love a child selflessly (Cont. on pg. 4)

Перший обов'язок батька у стосунку до дітей любити їхню маму. Виховання – завжди командна гра. Батько може захистити матір, підміняючи її, даючи їй можливість відпочити, відновитися і знайти трохи часу для себе.

Батько перш за все повинен "бути". Його присутність повинна означати: "Ви, моя сім'я, – найголовніше в моєму житті". Бути у випадку батька означає спілкуватися з дітьми, обговорювати їхні проблеми, залучати їх, наскільки це можливо, до участі у своєму житті. І навчитися помічати всі малі і великі знаки, які постійно надсилають діти.

Батько є прикладом, хоче він того чи ні. Батько – зразок чесності, порядності і доброзичливості. Навіть якщо діти не помічають цього, а іноді і заперечують, насправді вони дивляться на те, що і як робить батько і чому він робить так, а не інакше. Те, що ми називаємо совістю, багато в чому залежить від батька.

Батько гарантує надійність. Батько – це охоронець. Вся сім'я чекає, що батько захистить її. Батько охороняє також тоді, коли визначає певні правила, часові та просторові обмеження, іноді забороняючи певні речі. Це найкращий спосіб сказати: "Я дбаю про тебе".

Батько заохочує і надає сил. Батько доводить свою любов повагою, слухаючи і приймаючи. Його любов – справжня, як у тих, хто говорить: "Що б не трапилося, я завжди з тобою!" Завдяки цьому у дітей з'являється самоповага. Батько завжди готовий допомогти своїм чадам, компенсуючи їхні слабкості.

Батько пам'ятає і розповідає. Батьківство є островом порятунку для тих, хто важко провів свій день. Такий звичайний момент, наприклад, вечерю, батько перетворює в особливу сімейну зустріч, коли всі можуть спокійно поспілкуватися між собою. Добрий батько здатний створити чарівну атмосферу спогадів.

Батько вчить вирішувати проблеми. Батько – найкращий путівник у навколишньому світі. Він має сильний вплив на дітей завдяки своїй здатності керувати життям, завдяки тому, як він ставиться до дійсності, що нас оточує. Батько – це людина, яка дає дітям карту життя.

Батько прощає. Прощення батька – це те, що дитина відчуває найбільше і чого очікує найбільше; це чи не найважливіша ознака батька.

Батько – завжди батько, навіть якщо він живе далеко. Кожна дитина має право на "свого" батька. Коли батько нехтує дітьми, забуває або покидає їх, то завдає їм рану, яка ніколи не заживе.

Батько – це образ Бога. Бути батьком – велике покликання, а не особистий вибір. У всіх дослідженнях з психології написано про те, що діти виробляють для себе образ Бога, ґрунтуючись на образі власного батька. Ісус навчив нас молитви "Отче наш". Якщо мати молиться разом з дітьми – це прекрасно, але одночасно звично. Якщо ж з дітьми молиться батько – вони ніколи про це не забудуть.
