INTRODUCTION:

A boat which is solar powered is called as a solar boat.

The solar boat doesn’t use chemical energy instead it uses solar energy to run the boat.

Now-a-days fossil fuels are running out and its our responsibility to find an alternative energy to fossil fuels and the solution is use SOLAR BOAT.

SOLAR PANEL :A solar panel works by allowing photons, or

particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, generating a flow of electricity.

Solar panels actually comprise many, smaller units called photovoltaic cells. (Photovoltaic simply means they convert sunlight into electricity.)

So I and my teammates planned to put 12 solar panel to our solar boat so that our could flow in the water.

Circuit(Series)• In a series circuit, there is a single pathway for the electrons to flow from beginning to end.• When solar panels are connected in

series, the voltage of the solar panels is added together. • Make propeller spins faster.

MOTOR :The motor used in solar boat is

essentially driven by magnetic attraction and repulsion between the permanent magnets in the motor stator and the rotor which is an electromagnet powered by solar panel.

The motor RPM varies directly with voltage.

Torque varies directly with current.

HULL :• Hull is the watertight body of ship or

boat. We used polystyrene for our solar boat as the hull.

• The line where the hull meets water surface is called waterline.

• The structure if hull varies depending on vessel type. The basic considerations are:

Must float and requires to carry motor and solar cells.

Must be constructed from waterresistant materials. Must be stable and not roll over.

PROPELLER : A propeller is a type of fan that

transmits power by converting rotational motion into thrust.

A conventional water propeller is the most commonly used type of propeller.

The propeller must transfer all the solar panel power to the water to drive the boat.

Keep the shaft angle low to maximize forward thrustcomponent and minimize the vertical thrust component.

COUPLING :Connecting the motor to the propeller

is essential if the boat is to function.This area has the potential for high

power loss if not done properly.

DESIGN’S INNOVATIONUsing Newton’s second law of motion which states

that the resultant force is equal to the rate of change of momentum and takes place in the direction of the change of momentum.

( F = ma, where F=resultant force, m=mass, a=acceleration )Use an aerodynamic and streamlined body shape

for the boat to reduce drag caused by viscosity.From F=ma, - a is directly proportional to F ( force produced by boat must be big to move fast) - a is inversely proportional to m ( m must be small in order to move fast)

SOLAR BOAT MAKING PROSEDURE

1.Do marking on the Styrofoam based on the design

2.Cut the Styrofoam using the foam cutter

4. Combine all the parts of boat

3.We make the propeller using the cap of the ball pen

5.Place the solar panels on the hull using hot glue
