HOW TO INCREASE THE SPEED OF SOLAR BOAT?

Increase the Forward Thrust

Reduce The Drag Force

Balance the Weight And the Lift Force

HYPOTHESIS

Electrical energy produced by solar cells (combination of series and parallel connection ) can be used as a power supply for boat

HOW SOLAR CELLS WORKS

Solar-powered photovoltaic (PV) panels convert the sun's rays into electricity by exciting electrons in silicon cells using the photons of light from the sun.

As the photons of the sunlight beat down upon these cells, they knock theelectrons off the silicon.

The negatively-charged free electrons are preferentially attracted to one side of the silicon cell, which creates an electric voltage

AERODYNAMIC

The word comes from two Greek words:

Aerios = concerning the air

Dynamis = meaning powerful

Aerodynamics is the study of forces and the resulting motion of objects through the fluid ( air/ liquid)

Making a shape smoother and more sleek will improve the lift and drag performance of a shape.

Defined as "reducing a shape's resistance to the flow of fluid."

When the flow becomes turbulent and uneven, sometimes called "dirty flow," as in the top two examples, the resistance of the fluid flow against the object is high.

But by properly shaping the object to maintain a smooth, laminar flow, as in the bottom two cases, that resistance can be substantially reduced. These latter shapes are what we would call streamlined shapes.

STREAMLINING

HOW TO CHOOSE THE SHAPE OF PROPELLER

Diameter

Diameter means the total width of the circle at the blade tips as the propeller spins.

A larger diameter pushes more water and reaches deeper into the water.

So theyre typically used on large, heavy boats or ones with high engine mounting heights.

A smaller diameter is usually used on lighter weight boats.

Number of Blade

Two-bladed propellers are the most common, showing good overall performance, top speed, and efficiency for most applications.

Three and Four blades characteristically provide increased acceleration.

However, three and four blades typically mean more drag on the engine, resulting in lower top speeds.

Blade Surface Area

Blade surface area refers to the total surface of the blades.

The more blade surface area a prop has the more water it pushes, for better hole shot

Cavitations

Cavitations occurs when pressure on the water across the blades surface is reduced to the point of becoming water vapor, forming bubbles.

If these bubbles burst, they can cause a cavitation burn which can deteriorate the propellers surface and cause negative performance issues.
