When disaster strikes, time is critical. It takes time for relief teams to be mobilized, for ships to come in and be unloaded onto trucks, for paperwork to be processed, for funds to be raised and currencies to be converted, for camps to be set up. Survivors don’t have time, their need for shelter is immediate but bureaucracy sometimes creates more problems than it solves. We think there is a better way.In the last few years we have been on the front lines of earthquakes, forest fires, and other disasters that have caused people to lose everything. We’ve put together a team of Super First Responders, the best of the best with decades of experience at disaster relief. We’ve created a new product, a 40-foot shipping container with everything needed for an instant relief camp for up to 1600 people.

Our technology has been praised by FEMA and the US military, and right now we have people in need of relief asking us for containers. We have just sent 350 units to the Hurricane Harvey relief effort. We are raising money in a Token Sale Event (TSE) to buy as many containers as we can as quickly as we can, because there are a lot of people out there who need them.

WE HAVE AN URGENT NEED FOR RAPIDLY DEPLOYABLE SHELTER SYSTEMS

Right now, there are 65.6 million people forcibly displaced from their homes (UN). The need for shelter is huge, and projected to grow faster than the global population.Advanced Shelter Systems grew out of a leisure and lifestyle requirement. As villages of SHIFTPODS were deployed at festivals, we were able to donate around the world to refugee relief situations. The practicality and universal appeal of our SHIFTPODS attracted the attention of First Responders and NGOs worldwide. This led to the development of the RESPONSEPOD and SHELTERPOD.

When disaster strikes, the natural tendency for many people, corporations, NGOs and governments is to help. We humans have shown a great track record of raising money to assist others in times of crisis, and large institutions have grown over centuries trying to facilitate the management and distribution of this money.

In 2009, severe flooding in Pakistan displaced more people than the population of Australia. An area of 600,000 square kilometers was under water, almost as large as the state of Texas. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon was “shocked”, calling it the worst natural disaster he had ever seen.

Within 10 days of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, $742 million was committed and $920 million pledged internationally. This worked out to $495 per person. Within 3 weeks of the Pakistan disaster, only $230 million was committed to help a much larger population. Per person, this worked out to only $15.

In total, more than $15 billion was raised for the Haiti earthquake – about $1400 per person, in a country where the average wage is $4/day. This was about $10,000 for each of the 1.5 million people left homeless. 7 years later, 95,000 are still living in refugee camps and 200,000 are living in slums without running water, electricity, or sanitation.

WASHINGTON — Among the many superlatives associated with Hurricane Katrina can now be added this one: it produced one of the most extraordinary displays of scams, schemes and stupefying bureaucratic bungles in modern history, costing taxpayers up to $2 billion.

A hotel owner in Sugar Land, Tex., has been charged with submitting $232,000 in bills for phantom victims. And roughly 1,100 prison inmates across the Gulf Coast apparently collected more than $10 million in rental and disaster-relief assistance.

There are the bureaucrats who ordered nearly half a billion dollars worth of mobile homes that are still empty, and renovations for a shelter at a former Alabama Army base that cost about $416,000 per evacuee.

And there is the Illinois woman who tried to collect federal benefits by claiming she watched her two daughters drown in the rising New Orleans waters. In fact, prosecutors say, the children did not exist.

The tally of ignoble acts linked to Hurricane Katrina, pulled together by The New York Times from government audits, criminal prosecutions and Congressional investigations, could rise because the inquiries are under way. Even in Washington, a city accustomed to government bloat, the numbers are generating amazement.

“The blatant fraud, the audacity of the schemes, the scale of the waste — it is just breathtaking,” said Senator Susan Collins, Republican of Maine, and chairwoman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.Such an outcome was feared soon after Congress passed the initial hurricane relief package,

as officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross acknowledged that their systems were overwhelmed and tried to create new ones on the fly.

”We did, in fact, put into place never-before-used and untested processes,” Donna M. Dannels, acting deputy director of recovery at FEMA, told a House panel this month. “Clearly, because they were untested, they were more subject to error and fraud.”

Officials in Washington say they recognized that a certain amount of fraud or improper payments is inevitable in any major disaster, as the government’s mission is to rapidly distribute emergency aid.

THE WORLD’S LARGEST REFUGEE CAMP: TENTS 40 YEARS OLD

Dadaab Refugee camp is located in Kenya next to the Somalian border. It is currently the largest refugee camp in the world

Following the civil war starting in the late 80s, the failed state of Somalia and the threat of Al-Shabaab militants meant hundreds of thousands of Somalis were displaced.

In 2015 after an attack by Al-Shabaab militants on the nearby Garissa university the government of Kenya proposed to close the Dadaab Camp in Garissa.

The camp is structured in a block system and mainly run by the UNHCR and CARE. The typology is mostly tent-like structures with a wide range of different tent types. You’ll find UNHCR tents from the late 80s as well as brand new ones from 2015.

Even though this camp is quite old it still remains in more of a temporary status. It is to speculate if people still think they might go back home soon.

In 2017, Dadaab houses 245,126 people in 5 camps. On average, 4 people live in each tent. Some of the tents in this camp are almost 40 years old.

9 USE OF FUNDS

USE OF FUNDS

The SHELTERCOIN Foundation is raising funds by issuing a digital token. A total of one billion SHELTERCOIN will be minted. 200 million SHELTERCOIN are being offered to the public in the Initial Offering, 50 million tokens are being issued in a pre-sale before the TSE to cover launch expenses. The remaining tokens may be offered to the public from time to time to raise funds when disasters occur.

To ensure a gradual release of tokens, and that we remain prepared for future events no more than 75 million of the remaining tokens may be released for trading in any one calendar year.

The Foundation will develop SHELTERHUB, a Disaster Management Asset Marketplace. The Foundation will purchase and operate SHELTERPOD systems to provide shelter and disaster-preparedness. It will pay expenses related to the development and deployment of SHELTERPOD systems, such as transportation and certification. Wherever possible the SHELTERCOIN Foundation and ASSI will transact with each other in SHELTERCOIN.

The Initial Offering of tokens will be staged in 5 lots. When all tokens have been sold, or after 90 days have elapsed, the tokens will be issued to all wallets and SHELTERCOIN will become tradable.

Recent events with Hurricanes Harvey and Irma left massive amounts of devastation, flooding, and damage. People gave generously, and the government stepped in to fund everything. Many large organizations launched fundraising drives, but how do we know where the money got spent?

SHETLERHUB will help disaster responders locate the assets they need and match them with the people who need them. It will give an open, transparent ledger of shared information, shared with the disaster response community.

A 2011 report called Future Relief 2.0 was prepared by the UN Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). It highlighted the successes and challenges learned from the high-tech response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake. An unprecedented level of technology was brought by Volunteers and the Tech Community (VTC). This was combined with most of the population having access to phones. They were communicating their needs to the outside world in unprecedented numbers. The existing systems got overwhelmed with too much information. The data flow was not orderly and consistent, reflecting the chaotic nature of disasters. Some locations could provide very rich amounts of data, others could only communicate by text message or satellite phone.

A decentralized approach on a custom blockchain built on EOS offers a new approach to this continuing problem. We are creating our own blockchain application SHELTERHUB as a public ledger for information sharing and a marketplace for disaster response assets. This will be an open system built on the EOS Platform (eos.io) EOS supports asynchronous communication, role-based permissions and parallel processing of large amounts of data. Nick has responded to more than 4000 medevacs in his 11 year career in Alberta, Canada. Before his first job, he spent 5 years within the 52 City of Calgary Royal Canadian Air Cadet Core, and 2 years within the Calgary Fire Cadet program. He started as a Flight and Ground response EMT (2006). He now works as a Critical Care Flight Paramedic. Advanced Care Paramedic Diploma SAIT Polytechnic (2011). Certification courses in ACLS, PALS, CAMATA, NERP, ITLS and NAPD. A 3 year transition to Remote Emergency and Primary Care in small northern communities assisted the honing of remote medical skills in deprived conditions.

RYAN J MOELLER DIRECTOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

A veteran of the US Army, Ryan was awarded a Bronze Star for his service as part of the 490th and 492nd civil affairs battalions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Ryan coordinated hospital improvement projects and conducted medical treatment operations in remote villages.

He was appointed Chairman of the Kadhymiya Public Health and Medical Recovery Committee in partnership with local Iraqi helath officials. He has served as an instructor for facility mass casualty and HAZMAT decontamination, trained ER technicians and assisted ER doctors in all aspects of trauma and patient care.

Ryan has a Bachelor’s degree in Disaster/Emergency Management from American Public University. He is the Director for Emergency Preparedness & Response, Williamson County Georgetown TX and serves as Planning Section Chief for the Central Texas Incident Management Team.

The Federal IMAT (Incident Management Assistant Team) is tasked with assisting disaster survivors by coordinating all federal response and recovery efforts in assistance to State and Local governments as requested due to overwhelming conditions or resource requirement brought about during times of crisis through the coordinated delivery of programs and resources found throughout the Federal System.

TEAM RUBICON — REGION 6 OPERATIONS MANAGER

Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans to rapidly deploy emergency response teams into crisis situations. It helps ease the transition for veterans from the military to civilian life by giving them a new mission of continued service.

Shane also heads up the SHELTERPOD DISASTER RESPONSE TEAM and manages deployments and trainings.

Experience in multiple austere environments has taught Craig the importance of relationships, patience, and planning. He has served in multiple leadership positions, from four person teams to 900 person organizations.

He has a Bachelors degree in International Relations from the Ohio State University, has studied Spanish, German, and Arabic, and has lived and worked in five countries.

Craig’s interests include his six nieces and nephews, traveling, and hiking.

JEREMIAH SOAPE Jeremiah holds a BA in Political Science from Stephen F. Austin State University and an MBA from Webster University.

He has served in the US Army since 2004, and received the Bronze Star for his service. In Iraq he established a civilian-military cooperation program for an organization of over 4500 employees, establishing policies and procedures for positive interactions with foreign military and civilian leaders, United Nations representatives and non-profit organizations for the care and safety of local populations.

He was accountable for more than 100 meetings with these groups on disaster and crisis planning, and their plans provided support for more than 450,000 civilians displaced by war.

He has organized humanitarian aid distributions and served as lead civil military planner in 6 major training exercises. Jeremiah has also served in Afghanistan, where he worked with local leaders on disaster response training and coordination.

LON PETERSON From California’s Central Coast, Lon joined the army and became a Staff Sargent in the Civil Affairs unit. He stayed in the Army Reserve until 2000, working with many NGO’s. After obtaining an AA in Criminal Justice he became a Santa Barbara County Deputy Sheriff, and did a BS in International Relations at Cal State University Sacramento.

He spent 4 years in the San Francisco Bay Area as a CHP Officer then served as a Special Agent in the Secret Service from 2000-2006.

Since 2007 he has worked with NGOs as security manager for Samaritans Purse and World Vision International. This has taken him to Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Israel, Lebanon, Poland, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Josh Yeo is a self taught film maker from Los Angeles, California. Though he’s young and new to the game his footage garners hundreds of millions of views, with his work on the CNBC Prime time show “Secret Lives of the Super Rich”, and day time shows, “Power Lunch” and “Million Dollar Listing LA”.
