I was reading in Ezra when I came across this passage that gave me ponder. Ezra has

received permission from Artaxerxes to return with the exiles to Jerusalem.

Artaxerxes has granted them articles from the temple to be returned and the ability to

gather money on the way. Ezra gathers a large crowd at the Ahava Canal for three

days before they set out. And here is what Ezra writes: 21 There, by the Ahava

Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask

him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions. 22 I was

ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the

road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on every-

one who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.” 23 So we

fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer. Ezra 8:21-23

“I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers…” leaves me with the impression that

he wanted to ask, but couldn’t because he would look like a fool after his proclama-

tion. “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him…” The great

priest Ezra, who had accomplished so much in getting the great King Artaxerxes to

allow the people to return, still has doubts. He made a bold statement about God in

front of the King and now he had to live by it. It sounds like it was more because of

pride than because of faith that he did not ask for soldiers. So he was stuck. What did

Ezra do? “So we fasted and petitioned our God about this…” He put himself in a

position where he had to count on God.

“…and he answered our prayer.” We are really good about putting our foot in our

mouth. Why don’t we try making bold statements of truth about God that put us in a

corner, depend totally on God, pray and let him answer our prayer.

Malachi 3:10 says: “‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be

food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw

open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be

room enough to store it.’” Just Pondering

    Paul’s Ponders

Romanos 8:18-21 DE HECHO, CONSIDERO QUE EN NADA SE COMPARAN

LOS SUFRIEMIENTOS ACTUALES CON LA GLORIA QUE HABRA DE REVELARSE EN NOSOTROS. LA

CREACION AGUARDA CON ANSIEDAD LA REVELACION DE LOS HIJOS DE DIOS, POR QUE FUE

SOMETIDA A LA FRUSTRACION. ESTO NO SUSEDIO POR SU PROPIA VOLUNTAD, SINO POR LA DEL

QUE ASI LO DISPUSO. PERO QUEDA LA FIRME ESPERANZA DE QUE LA CREACION MISMA A DE SER

LIBERADA DE LA CORRUPCION QUE LA ESCLAVIZA, PARA ASI ALCANZAR LA GLORIOSA LIBER-

TAD DE LOS HIJOS DE DIOS...Yo soy tu hermano Gilberto
