Attention Carers

Having recently nursed my beloved mother to

the end. I required carers to assist in her final

few days.

I was assigned to a new company in Doncater Direct Health UK LTD -

Chris Whincup (01709) 882053

If you are in a similar situation and require

carers I can thoroughly recommend their

service.

It resorted my faith in humanity, to see young

people so dedicated, professional and trained

to palliative care.

The 67th Doncaster Scouts were presented

with the Village trophy this year by Sprotbrough

and Cusworth Parish Council. The Council who

choose a winner each year, chose the Scouts for

all their success in district competitions. It is the

Scouts 3rd successive win in the cooking

competition.

THE NEIL GARDINER MEMORIAL CRICKET SIXES

CHARITY EVENT

The Neil Gardiner Memorial Cricket Sixes Charity Event was once

more a great success. We would like to thank everyone for attending

and for their generous donations that helped to raise a brilliant £3972.39

for the Teenage and Young Adult Unit on ward P3 at the Royal Hallam-

shire Hospital, Sheffield.

It was another great day with plenty of sunshine. The victors of the Neil

Gardiner Trophy were the ‘Scopie Sloggers’ from the R.A.F. They said

they had been trying to win this trophy since the first event in 2004 and

were proud to be winners . The team ‘Sprotbrough Six Pack’ were the

runners up.

This event has proved very popular and was attended by over 1000

people. A great big thanks must go to everyone who helped on the day, especially to Jody Green

and Jon French who give up lots of their time to organize this event.

Included in this total is £140 donated by the Ivanoe Football teams The Oldies v the Newies who played a match on Sunday 7th August and we thank them very much for this. Also included was

£400 raised by Matthew Booth who did a sponsored bike ride.

Scouts Gala & Road Race

Sunday 17th July saw the annual Scouts Gala and Road race at New Lane. 210 runners competed in

the race which saw Kemp Sapey win over the 6.5km course in a time of 24min 13 seconds. The first

lady home was Chloe Craven in a time of 31min 12 Seconds and the first scout was Richard Martin.

Despite the showery weather the event raised £4000 towards the scout group funds. During the

afternoon the Sprotbrough and Cusworth Parish Council officiated at the opening of the New Lane

Play area by Jack(10) and Lucy(8) Roberts.

The village trophy donated by the Parish council to the scout group was this year won by the scout

section itself for their achievement in winning district events including the cooking competition for

the third year in a row.

Dear Reader,

By the time you are

reading this the

Summer holidays will

be over and people will

be whispering the

dreaded word

'Christmas'. Well, don't

worry - it will be a

couple of months before I discuss that

subject again.

For the present I am going to concentrate on us

women! Having had six weeks summer ‘holiday’

juggling the kids and our own jobs at work, whilst

trying to keep on top of household chores, it's

about time we spent a little time on ourselves -

we have definitely earned it and some 'me time' is,

I think, not only deserved but also truly needed!!!!

Once race week is over, many salons will have

offers running up to December, so it will be a

great time to take the opportunity to try

something you have wanted to try for ages but

haven't because it has been beyond your normal

monthly treatment budget: a relaxing Hot Stone

Massage to ease those tired and aching muscles, a

course of Facial Lifting to help the stress lines

caused by the above-mentioned juggling, Teeth

Whitening to make your smile brighter (now the

kids are back in school!!!!)… All these and many

more will be more affordable.

Is an hour a month - something to look

forward to, a time to call your own – too

much to ask? You deserve it! And the benefits

last for much longer. With many salons being

open until late at night, what could be better -

having fed the family, tidied up, got the kids off

to bed - than popping down to the salon for

the last appointment? From personal

experience, I can tell you that many of our

clients shower at home, put their pyjamas on

and then drive down to the salon so that, when

they get home an hour later, all they have to

do is slip into bed for a deep, rejuvenating

sleep. Bliss! Hollywood style treatment for a

true star!

What more

could you

want on an

Autumn

evening

when the

nights are

drawing in?

Beauty Packages are also lovely treats, and

buying a package of treatments is usually a little

cheaper than paying for them individually. So,

if you have been in the sun and your skin feels

dehydrated and has lost its healthy glow, a

body scrub and massage followed by a deep

cleansing treatment with nourishing products

to feed the skin would be ideal for your body,

and an hour’s facial lifting with a micro current

would be the perfect answer for your face.

Beauty Quote of The Month..... Love is much like a wild rose, beautiful and

calm, but willing to draw blood in its defence.”

Overtaking Dear readers,

Ask yourself do I really need to overtake? Is the overtake necessary and worthwhile, what’s the point in

exposing yourself to unnecessary danger to jump one or two places up a queue of traffic.

At best you’ll only arrive at your destination a few seconds earlier! Instead of getting agitated, drop back,

(not to much) and enjoy the ride. The bully driver, who speeds up the wrong side of the road-only to cut

up other drivers when he forces his way back in to avoid on-coming traffic-is a danger to himself and eve-

ryone else.

Every overtake requires planning, quick thinking and decisiveness. Ask these questions before you attempt

any overtaking manoeuvre.

1. Is their sufficient clear road ahead to carry out the manoeuvre safely? Is anyone ahead slowing

down or turning right?

2. Does your car have enough acceleration to pass safely?

3. Which gear will provide the best acceleration to complete the manoeuvre?

4. Will you get a better overtaking opportunity soon?

5. Is the vehicle in front hiding another vehicle that may block your attempts to pull-in?

6. Beware of slow moving vehicles they can turn quickly.

7. Are there any concealed hazards such as obstructed lay-bys, side turnings, entrances, buildings or

gates.

8. Never overtake near a junction, even one that looks clear. The vehicle you’re passing might turn

without warning or some one might pull out. When joining a main road, a lot of ordinary drivers

only take the time to look right before pull-

ing out. This is the cause of numerous high-

speed accidents.

9. Observe around and underneath any vehicle

you’re passing to check all is clear in front of

it. Often, shadows are a good way to judge

whether for example, a large lorry is hiding a

motorcycle.

10. Never make risky overtakes. If in doubt stay

back.

Overtaking in bad weather is more dangerous as

visibility can be seriously reduced by spray and brak-

ing distances are significantly increased. Also remem-

ber that, just because you can’t see headlights does-

n’t mean that there’s no vehicle there. Many motor-

ists forget to put their headlights on except when

driving at night. To be continued...
