My Dear Parishioners,
As we come to the mid-point of the summer, I find myself reflecting on the past year, and of course, the year to come. One of the happiest things for me that happened during the past year was the organization and formation of a vibrant Young Adult Group here at St. Bede
Parish, something I was looking forward to for quite some time. It all started when, with my support, Fr. O'Donald, along with young adults Bob Bagdon and Shannon Don-nelly, sat down and organized a starting date and an agenda for the first meeting, which took place in early January, 2017, when college age young adults are usually at home on semester break. Fr. O'Donald used our parish data base, and sent letters of invitation to all parishioners between the ages 18-30. They were invited to a buffet dinner, and about 45 showed up. Fr. O'Donald gave a brief talk about how young adults like him need a place to gather with those who share the same Catho-lic/Christian values. Bob Bagdon invited the group to share their hopes of what a young adult group might provide for them from a social, educational and spiritual point of view. It was lively and good conversation. Well the good news is that since that initial meeting in January, the St. Bede Young Adult Group has met consis-tently every Wednesday evening at 7:30pm, either in the Drexel Center or the St. Francis Youth Center. They have had guest speakers, holy hours, game nights, cookouts, faith sharing, etc. From what I see (and the group keeps growing), everyone feels welcome and accepted, and are enjoying themselves. From the very first night, I told our young adults that I wanted them to feel that the parish is their home. They are not the future of the church - they are the Church, as far I'm concerned. I encourage all of our parishioners to keep the ongoing success of our Young Adult community in your prayers. I thank Fr. O'Donald, Bob Bagdon, and Shan-non Donnelly for their leadership and enthusiasm, which has drawn so many people to the group. And on behalf of them, I invite all of our young adults to come to find out what the group is all about. In fact, for more information, call Bob Bagdon at 215-354-6106. May God Bless You,

Scripture Readings SSeventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 30, 2017 1 Kings 3: 5, 7-12 Psalm 119 Romans 8: 28-30 Matthew 13: 44-52 or 13: 44-46 Our Gospel readings have shifted from a focus on the effects of God’s word to Jesus’ efforts to describe and explain the kingdom of God. It is likened to treasure and to other things of great value, but Jesus makes it clear that there is still a sorting process. Perhaps as we listen to these readings, we can, together with Solomon, ask for wisdom so that we can discern signs of God’s kingdom in our midst.

St. Bede Adoration SocietySt. Bede Adoration Society Prayer is the Heart of Every Parish
“What we need is for every Parish to come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in holy hours of prayer.”
St. Teresa of Calcutta
“Jesus calls us to know and love Him so that we might better follow Him. What better way is there to grow close to Him than in the stillness of prayer before Him in the Blessed Eucharist, Before Him in the tabernacle or exposed in the Monstrance, we spend time in His Presence, listening to Him, speaking to Him, asking to grow closer to Him. It is a privilege for us to be able to spend time before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. During those precious moments we sense Jesus’ tremendous love for us. We bring to Him our joys and our sorrows, we talk to Him about the needs of those around us, and we ask for that deep conversion of heart and mind that will make us one with Him. Amid the rush and noise of the world we draw apart for a time to be quiet in mind and spirit to contemplate the great love of God for us.” ----- a quote from Rev. B. J. Hickey
Please stop by and visit Jesus in our chapel adjacent to the parish offices in the St. Katharine Drexel Center. The chapel is open 7 days a week / 24 hours a day! For more information or to sign up for a scheduled open hour, please contact Sean & Debbie McDermott (215)-504-9897 or e-mail us at [email protected].

Mass of the Assumption of Mary Boardwalk Hall
CELEBRATE THE ASSUMPTION AT SAINT MARY CENTER, LANSDALE
The residents of Saint Mary Center in Lansdale extend an invitation to join them for an outdoor Mass with our own version of the “Blessing of the Sea” celebrating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Tuesday, Au-gust 15, 2017 beginning at 11a.m. Tents and folding chairs will be provided and refreshments will be served following Mass. All are wel-come to attend. Saint Mary Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, part of Catholic Health Group, is located at 701 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, PA 19446. The custom of “blessing the sea” on the Feast of the As-sumption is said to have originated in Italy in the 15th century when a bishop traveling from Venice during a storm at sea on the Feast of the Assumption prayed and threw his pastoral ring into the sea from a ship and the waters were calmed. Some ceremonies today include throwing a ring or wreath of flowers from a boat into the water, symbolizing the union of the earth and the sea and giving rise to the name, “wedding of the sea.”
