My Dear Parishioners,

Welcome back! While those words are meant for everyone as we begin a new year of regular parish activities, they are meant in a special way for those of you who were fortunate enough to go on extended vacations or multiple summer weekends away. The weather for the most part on weekends was perfect for outdoor activities. As a result, attendance here at

St. Bede’s was lighter than usual. And with that, of course, our weekly collections took a hit. Our Parish Finance Council has been pretty accurate in budgeting what they expect will be collected each week, but this summer was very different. As a result there has been a substantial decrease over these last three months in our usual weekly collection amount. If you have missed some summer weekends, please consider using the green Summer Makeup Envelope in your September mailing packet, to help us get back on target. This weekend, to help us celebrate our return from summer, and to officially begin the one-week countdown to our annual Padre Pio Festival and Parish Picnic, we are having a special Welcome Back Refreshment Social after every Mass, including the Saturday evening Vigil. Sunday September 8 is the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, so the Coffee Socials will also give us the opportunity to celebrate Mary’s special day. Down at the Socials, there will be Spiritual Bouquets for you to fill out, to add your own personal intentions for Mary to carry to Christ. At the same time you will have a chance to view the many Raffle Baskets that have been prepared through your generous donations. The Padre Pio Festival and Parish Picnic are now only a week away! Next weekend will truly be a special time of faith, family, community and just plain old fun for all ages. Take a look through this bulletin centerfold, and even more so our Padre Pio Festival website (padrepiofestivalhollandpa.com) to see all that will be offered. Coming down to the Social will also give you the opportunity to find out how you can volunteer to make this year’s Fourth Annual Festival a great success. Although Padre Pio lived most of his live in a monastery, people came to him because they could tell that he was very close to God. The suffering he experienced, and yet the strong faith that carried him through every cross, was a great inspiration. He was, and still is, a powerful intercessor to God for people who, like him, are carrying heavy crosses and need to know, through miracles of all kind, that God is walking the journey with them. Come and experience Padre Pio, who has one hand in heaven, and the other hand reaching out to us here on earth.

May God Bless You,

A Message From Your Pastor

Rev. Monsignor John C. Marine

Scripture Readings Twenty fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 15, 2019 Exodus 32: 7-11, 13-14 Psalm 51 1 Timothy 1: 12-17 Luke 15: 1-32 Our Gospel includes the familiar account of the prodigal son. Sometimes with a story that we know so well, we tend to tune it out and say that we’ve heard it all before. As you hear this tale of God’s generous love and forgiveness, try to listen for a new detail that you haven’t noticed before, or put yourself in the place of one of the characters. What would it feel like to be the father in this story? What new insights into God’s love can you discover?

Principal’s Corner

It was so nice to see the smiling faces as we welcomed back our students this past week. We also welcomed 74 new students to our SKD family! This is one of our largest increases to our enrollment! It is a testament to the proven results of our academic program and dedicated commitment to our MISSION. We are excited for the many diverse learning experiences

that will take place for our students this school year. Please visit our school website (http://www.skdschool.org) often to find out what is happening at your parish school. Also- please like us on Facebook at St. Katharine Drexel Regional Catholic School. Let us ask God to steady us for the journey of a new school

year and give us peace knowing that we never walk alone.
