REGENT NEWS
We have now entered November, a small milestone insofar it is now exactly four weeks to Fun Day. Now
as the name suggests this is a day of fun and frolics for all that attend, a chance to let your hair
down and experience the rides, challenges, foods, stalls, events and atmosphere of a very popular and
well attended school event.
However, behind all this fun, lies a very serious side indeed, the purpose of the Fun Day is NOT as
some may mistakenly think, to raise funds for the Regent School, The Regent School actually donates
far more than is raised to ensure the success of the primary objectives:
To help worthy causes and the highly dis-advantaged peoples of our community.
The organisations that we support through the Fun Day are helping the most
Dis-advantaged in society.
Families displaced through conflict,
The visually and physically challenged who are struggling to make their way in life due to neglect by
others,
The parentless children with little or nothing to wake up for every day and of course
Those in abject poverty in a society where plenty exists.
You will find information here regarding our continued work with the FCT School for the Blind, whose
lives have been moved from abject squalour to something resembling a reasonable existence, with day
to day hope and pride.
The FCT School for children and young people with Special Needs, whose situation was despicable and
continues with our support to improve.
Azarel Homes orphanage.
Hope for Survival Orphanage.
The Regent Charity, which supports a number of other causes.
As I have said, yes, it is a Fun Day and yes, it is a Fund Raiser, but not for our school, but for those
above.
Let us give all of the children, young adults and adults in these institutions a great deal more than
mere..............
Hope For Survival !!!!

Welcome back to a new half term; we hope you all had a restful break and are ready to engage with the many exciting learning opportunities.
In our EYFS we believe that the ways in which children engage with each
other, their teachers and their environment – playing and exploring, active
learning, creating and thinking critically - underpins learning and
development across all areas and support children to remain effective and mo-
tivated learners.
Look at how much fun we have when we are learning!

Our theme this half term in Reception and Playgroup is Celebrations and Festivals, we will be
learning about celebrations and festivals from all around the world, while the topic in Nursery is
Animal World! To support us with our learning, we will use a range of fiction and non-fiction books.
We would love to work with you to make these topics meaningful for all children. If you have any suggestions or ideas please feel free to come in and speak to your child’s teacher.

Our topic this half of the term is Cycles. The children have been having
fun coming up with different questions they want answered about
cycles. This unit of inquiry will help
children understand the following:
Stages in the water cycle
The life cycle of animals
The life cycle of humans
The plant life cycle
Synonyms and adjectives to describe the word cycle
How numbers are used in cycles and much more…
Please have a discussion with your child/children about this topic
and encourage them to ask questions. Here are some of the
engaging activities the children have done this week.
“ Life is a cycle of
ends and starts”

For our exit point last half term, the children in Year 3A produced a
project on structures using spaghetti. The children learnt the names of
the different types of bridges some of which are; Truss Bridge,
Suspension Bridge and a Cable-stayed Bridge.
The learning project had great cross-curricular links. In Maths, the
children measured the length of their bridges and counted 20 straws to
make one beam. They made triangular trusses (also measured) to fortify
their bridges. In English, they planned a non-chronological report about
their bridges. In Science there was a link to engineering and in Humanities
there was a focus on bridges from the past and in different parts of the
world.
It was a fantastic learning experience for the children.

In the Upper Primary, we have been learning about the
history of African Americans. The story of Black
History Month began in 1915, half a century after the
Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the
United States.
It is an annual celebration of achievements by African
Americans and a time for recognizing
the central role of blacks in U.S. history.

The children from early years also participated in this
event by making some creative designs of famous
African Americans. Some children in Nursery also
displays their designs based on their amazing under-
standing of what the month stands for.
