REGENT NEWS Volume 12 Issue 25 Wednesday 23rd March 2016 Dear Parents, Headmaster’s Headlines for Term 2 / January Term 2016 at The Regent Where did the January Term go? Having said that, it is not until you look back and review the term that you realise just what has been achieved and what fantastic opportunities have been presented to the pupils at the school. The Regent continues to provide academic success and a breath of opportunity inside and outside the classroom as well as ensuring the pupils maintain the highest personal qualities and standards. On the academic front, the children have worked hard and every individual child will have the opportunity to see what progress they have made as they read their reports with you in the course of the holiday. Indeed, the academic programme continues to be enriched by a large variety of different activities throughout the term. The Year 6 Crazy Weekend to our Secondary School, the Nigerian Studies month, many class outings, the Science Fair, an informal inter-house swimming gala, two Sports Days, a packed World Book Week, a new House Singing Festival, Class Assemblies, Football matches and an Early Years Open Morning to name but a few, all help the pupils to experience a much wider curriculum. As in any school there are ups and downs with results in individual years, but should one study The Regent’s results over time, one will see that we consistently outstrip expectations. We add value. The Regent pupils achieve more than their starting intellectual ability scores might lead one to expect. When we consider pupils for entry here, we view the whole person, the full range of talents, their strengths and weaknesses. We do not merely evaluate the academic profile; the palette from which we work is far richer than that. Do we have the best teachers possible? Well, we do have a superb team, but that is not it. I believe our success is built upon the opportunities that we offer our young people, who start with individual strengths and limitations and who are then encouraged to participate in things that they have not previously encountered. The boys and girls inspire each other ‘to chance their arm’, to experiment and to take risks. “A roaring lion kills no game.” and “knowledge is like a garden. If it is not cultivated, it cannot be harvested.” These African proverbs certainly do not apply to our pupils! The Regent is commitment to a very busy all-round education as an essential ingredient for success - mind, body and soul. All this however, could not happen without the total dedication of The Regent staff whether it be the drivers, domestic and ground staff, administration and the academic team. My personal thanks go to them all for their committed work. I also thank you, the parents for your continued loyalty and support of the school and I take this opportunity to wish all The Regent families a wonderful Easter holiday. M. D. Dickson Headmaster

Dear Parents,

Headmaster’s Headlines for

Term 2 / January Term 2016 at The Regent

Where did the January Term go? Having said that, it is not until you look back and review the term that

you realise just what has been achieved and what fantastic opportunities have been presented to the pupils

at the school. The Regent continues to provide academic success and a breath of opportunity inside and

outside the classroom as well as ensuring the pupils maintain the highest personal qualities and standards.

On the academic front, the children have worked hard and every individual child will have the opportunity

to see what progress they have made as they read their reports with you in the course of the holiday.

Indeed, the academic programme continues to be enriched by a large variety of different activities

throughout the term. The Year 6 Crazy Weekend to our Secondary School, the Nigerian Studies month,

many class outings, the Science Fair, an informal inter-house swimming gala, two Sports Days, a packed

World Book Week, a new House Singing Festival, Class Assemblies, Football matches and an Early Years

Open Morning to name but a few, all help the pupils to experience a much wider curriculum.

As in any school there are ups and downs with results in individual years, but should one study The

Regent’s results over time, one will see that we consistently outstrip expectations. We add value. The

Regent pupils achieve more than their starting intellectual ability scores might lead one to expect. When we

consider pupils for entry here, we view the whole person, the full range of talents, their strengths and

weaknesses. We do not merely evaluate the academic profile; the palette from which we work is far richer

than that. Do we have the best teachers possible? Well, we do have a superb team, but that is not it. I

believe our success is built upon the opportunities that we offer our young people, who start with

individual strengths and limitations and who are then encouraged to participate in things that they have not

previously encountered. The boys and girls inspire each other ‘to chance their arm’, to experiment and to

take risks. “A roaring lion kills no game.” and “knowledge is like a garden. If it is not cultivated, it

cannot be harvested.” These African proverbs certainly do not apply to our pupils!

The Regent is commitment to a very busy all-round education as an essential ingredient for success - mind,

body and soul. All this however, could not happen without the total dedication of The Regent staff whether

it be the drivers, domestic and ground staff, administration and the academic team. My personal thanks go

to them all for their committed work.

I also thank you, the parents for your continued loyalty and support of the school and I take this

opportunity to wish all The Regent families a wonderful Easter holiday.

3A Book Trail Celebrations in Book Week

Children in 3A had a lot of fun doing the Book Trail

activity on Book Day with some of their mums.

All the children were put into three teams with the

mums who came and there was a lot of excitement as

our mums raced all over the Lower Primary building

looking for answers to the book trail questions on our

Words Display.

Thanks to Mrs Rukundo and Mrs Abubakar for

rewarding the children with sweets, biscuits and

story books!

A warm farewell to our Head Boy

A fond farewell to Chisom Chikelu, our Head Boy

who leaves us to attend a renowned school in the

UK called “The Dragon School!. Thanks for

everything and good luck! Our appreciation and

thanks also go to the family for their loyalty and

commitment to The Regent. The family were one of

the first to sign up some sixteen years ago. It has

been a pleasure having the five ‘baby Chikelus’

with us at The

Regent.

PTA Visit Gishiri and the Fulani Village

‘Some members

of the PTA and

their children

visited the “Hope

for Survival”

Orphanage and

the Fulani

Village in

Gishiri.

At the orphanage, the Admin Manger updated us on

the children’s welfare. They told us about five

children who passed JAMB but were unable to

attend university due to financial constraints. The

tuition fee for the students is N60,000 a year. The

PTA promised to discuss this with parents who

may be to offer any

possible assistance.

Mr. Griffith also took

the PTA to the Fulani

Village where we met

a Pastor and an Imam

who have teamed up

to establish a school

for the Fulani

children. The duo are trying to raise funds for

adequate classroom facilities. It was truly an

enlightening and worthwhile experience.

The PTA would like to thank Mr. Griffith for doing

such an excellent job’. PTA Mums
