OKLAHOMA THirD in BiG 12 VOTeThe university of oklahoma was selected third in the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Preseason Poll released oct. 7.

Baylor was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the 2010-11 Big 12 women’s basketball regular season title for the second consecutive year. The lady Bears received all of the possible 11 first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team).

Texas A&M, winner of the 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship, was picked second and nabbed the other first-place vote.

Texas was chosen fourth followed by iowa state and Kansas. nebraska, last year’s regular season champion, was seventh, followed by oklahoma state in eighth; Kansas state ninth, Texas Tech in 10th, Missouri 11th and Colorado 12th.

Hook Goes HomeMorgan hook, a native of lowell, Ark., will play her first collegiate game in her home state, just 17 miles from her backyard to Bud Walton Arena.

hook, who committed to ou before her sophomore year, played at rogers high school, becoming its all-time scoring leader (1,516 points) and a two-time Gatorade state Player of the Year.

Freshman nicole Griffin, who played her first collegiate game in the season opener at uW-Milwaukee, and senior Carlee roethlisberger, who had a career game with 18 points and 10 rebounds at ohio state, are sooners who have also played in the home states for the first time this season.

hook averaged 22.5 points and made 12 of 16 (75 percent) 3-point attempts while leading the sooners to two victories against stephen F. Austin and new Mexico. hook made 15 of her 20 field goals (75 percent) had four rebounds, three assists and just two turnovers during her time on the court. she accounted for 31 percent of ou’s total scoring in the two victories.

• oklahoma scored its fewest points this season, totaling just 63 versus new Mexico. The sooners previous low was 76 scored in the season-opening win at Milwaukee.

• The game was ou’s most competitive of the season, featuring 17 lead changes and 11 ties.

• Aaryn ellenberg’s sooner record streak of converting at least two 3-pointers in consecutive games ended at nine with her 1-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc sunday.

• Morgan hook scored 19 points, shooting 5-of-8 from 3-point range. in hook’s last three games at the lloyd noble Center, hook has scored 70 points and shot 19-of-25 from beyond the arc.

• hook’s only shots inside of 3-point range were crucial. hook hit ou’s final field goal and pair of free throws.

• Danielle robinson missed her first three free throw attempts for her first consecutive misses since nov. 26, 2009, versus south Carolina when she missed her second and third attempts. it was the first time in her career to miss three in-a-row.

Possession Obsessionoklahoma’s defense stifled its first four opponents, forcing more turnovers from each than allowing field goals. in the opening four-game span, ou forced 99 opponent turnovers and allowed just 68 field goals.

The sooners have scored 227 points off turnovers, 27 percent of their total scoring (847 points). The sooner defense has allowed just 207 field goals and forced 201 turnovers.

roethlisberger returns Homesenior forward Carlee roethlisberger had her best all-around game in her return home against ohio state on Dec. 5. roethlisberger posted her first double-double with 18 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. The Findlay, ohio, native had at least 100 friends and family members make the two-hour drive south to Columbus.

THAnKsGiVinG PLATTerThe university of oklahoma hosted its own three-day tournament, the Basketball Travelers invitational over the Thanksgiving weekend, and walked away with the top prize. The sooners captured wins against uT-Pan American, Gardner-Webb and Priaire View -- team all picked to finish high in their respective conferences -- in consecutive days to win the championship.

in the season opener at Milwaukee, the duo combined for 27 points, the most for a pair of ou freshmen in a single game since robinson (20) and Carlee roethlisberger (eight) scored 28 against south Carolina on Dec. 30, 2007.

ellenberg and hook are the second- and third-leading scorers on the team with 17.0 and 11.7 averages, respectively. of robinson’s assists, 54 percent (33 of 61) have gone to the duo.

robinson First Big 12 Player of the WeekAgainst Milwaukee in ou’s first game, the preseason All-America candidate scored 16 of her 20 after halftime as oklahoma wrestled a three-point advantage to a 17-point victory. During one stretch early in the second period, robinson scored 14 of 16 sooner points and counted the assist on the field goal that wasn’t hers.

ellenberg Big 12 Freshman of the WeekAaryn ellenberg averaged 23 points in two games last week and took over as the Big 12’s freshman scoring leader.

The 5-7 guard scored a career-high and game-leading 34 points in ou’s loss to ohio state sunday, Dec. 5, setting a schottenstein Center facility record. her total was two points shy of Courtney Paris’ freshman scoring record. ellenberg’s 22 first-half points were an ou freshman record for an opening period. ellenberg scored 12 points and had three steals in a 94-45 rout of sam houston state Wednesday, Dec. 1.

‘Vegas’ Hits the JackpotAaryn ellenberg, of las Vegas, set a sooner record by making at least two 3-pointers each of ou’s first nine games. The streak ended Dec. 12 against new Mexico when she hit only 1-of-3 field goals from beyond the arc. Carin stites had eight straight games with two or more 3’s during the 1990-91 season and the injured Whitney hand has an active streak of eight games.

ellenberg rolls DoublesAaryn ellenberg became the second sooner freshman under sherri Coale to reach double figure scoring in her first four college games. The other was Courtney Paris, whose consecutive double-figure scoring streak reached an nCAA record 120 games.

ellenberg’s nine-game double-figure scoring streak, that ended with a 5-point game against new Mexico, matched the third longest on record for a sooner’s start of a career. Molly McGuire (1979-80) started with nine games and Barbara Johnson (1978-78) started with 17 games of double-digit scoring.

Oklahoma vs. the Top 10With a loss to then-no. 6 ohio state on Dec. 5, the sooners are 19-38 against the AP Top 10 since the 1999-2000 season when they reappeared in the rankings under sherri Coale.

ou’s senior class is 7-15 against Top 10 teams, having gone 0-4 in 2007-08, 4-4 in 2008-09, 3-6 in 2009-10 and 0-1 this season.
