WelcomeScenic Rim Adventure Festival @ Mt Barney Lodge is a weekend-long adventure festival highlighting the wide array of adventure activities that you can engage with in the Scenic Rim Region.

The festival is part of the Gondwana Festival, a month-long celebration in March 2021 of some of the most precious and spectacular areas of the Queensland section of the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.

Join us as we guide you up the untracked and little-used North Ridge to the North Peak of Mt Barney and return via Rocky Creek.

Logan’s Ridge is the original first ascent route by white explorers. In fact it was the infamous Captain Logan in 1828 who successfully got to the top first.

MT BARNEY EXPEDITION - SOUTH EAST RIDGE

For the more adventurous, a guided expedition up Mt Barney is the ultimate challenge and is a class 5 track. Enjoy the freedom and solitude of the World Heritage-listed Mt Barney National Park and take advantage of our experience and local knowledge.

MT ERNEST EXPEDITIONThis fantastic walk provides a different perspective on the Mt Barney Massif. With views of both East and West Peaks you really feel engulfed by the majesty of Mt Barney.

MT MAROON EXPEDITIONS

This mountain is a mini Mt Barney, and climbing Mt Maroon at 965 meters is a half-day challenge. Most of the route is untracked and follows ridge lines and steep rocky gullies.

YELLOWPINCH CIRCUIT GUIDED WALKTake a walk through history, as we guide you along the banks of the upper catchments of the Logan River. You will explore the creek system with plenty of opportunities to take a swim in cool, secluded waterholes along the way. Learn about the history and ecology of the area as you rock-hop through volcanic rock formations, coal seams and view ancient, untouched land from a spectacular lookout.

Delve into the history of first ascents and climbing of the great mountains of the Gondwana Rainforest and the surrounding Scenic Rim with Dr Michael Meadows who wrote the most comprehensive history of climbing in Australia – The Living Rock.

Share your creative flare and follow the natural flow of the stream by using natural materials to build river boats. Dip your toes in and search for the wriggly, slippery creatures that lie below the surface. As we search amongst the river rocks, we slow down and magnify in on the smaller lives around us and see there’s more going on in the creek than just flowing water. It’s time to heat things up and let the flame of curiosity burn bright. A session filled with embracing the curiosity around fire whilst teaching valuable safety practices. Through nature games and bush exploration we will learn how to collect the right resources for fire building, how to build a fire and enjoy a fresh cooked healthy toasted treat. Lucy Stirling is a professional athlete competing for Australia in Sport Climbing and is passionate about the outdoors, climbing sport and inspiring others to reach their goals and pursue their dreams. John Stuart died on a climbing and exploration mission to Federation Peak in 1956. With no recorded location of his final resting place, deep in the Tasmanian Southwest Wilderness, Rob Saunders embarks on a journey to find his Great Uncle’s grave, before attempting to climb Federation Peak in his honour.

HOW BEST TO ENJOY THE FESTIVALWe believe that the best way to enjoy the Scenic Rim Adventure Festival is to stay on site for the duration. This way you are easily able to arrive on time for your adventures and be close to the festivities afterwards.

We recommend a few easy steps to ensuring your ideal adventure weekend!

STEP 1: PURCHASE ACCOMMODATIONStay the whole weekend and make the most of the Scenic Rim Adventure Festival and all it has to offer. Staying onsite reduces the travel time before and after your Expeditions and means you get to enjoy all the other activities, information and entertainment the festival has to offer while also enjoying the incredible vistas of the Scenic Rim. All accommodation tickets include weekend passes to the festival

STEP 2: PURCHASE YOUR ADVENTURE Check out our adventures available during the festival

and select the challenge that suits you! From Mt Barney’s more challenging ascents to beginner rock climbing, we have something for everyone.

DON’T WANT TO SPEND THE WHOLE WEEKEND?That’s fine too! Please feel free to have a look at our adventures and purchase your adventure of choice. Please note that you will also be required to purchase a day ticket to the festival as well.

As Mt Barney Lodge is an Eco Lodge committed to protecting the beautiful space we call home we encourage guests to offset their journey by carpooling where possible.

it has to offer. We have other accommodation options available here.

Shower and toilet facilities are available for all campers.

The closest general store is in Rathdowney and is open from 6:00am to 4:00pm 7 days a week.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN PREPARING TO CAMP AT THE FESTIVALFacilities

Hot showers, flushing toilets and washing up facilities are available to all campers. Please note that peak times for shower queues are in the morning and later afternoons so please avoid these times if you don’t want to wait.We ask to conserve water you aim for a one minute total flow time with your showers.

Campgrounds

All campsites are unpowered. Driving on campgrounds is prohibited during the festival. We ask that you walk to amenities, use of generators is prohibited.

Weather

The festival is held during Autumn, Our weather can range from very hot to quite cool. Campers should prepare for any eventuality.

Water

Water is always a precious commodity at Mt Barney Lodge as we take all our water from on-site tanks. We would appreciate it if guests would join us in conserving water in the following ways: restrict yourself to one shower a day and maximum of one minute water run time. Turn the water off when brushing your teeth, and please bring some water with you in large reusable containers.

SUGGESTIONS FOR A COMFORTABLE CAMPSITE.Consider the water course

When choosing a campsite consider where the water will naturally flow in the event of rain, and pitch your tent accordingly.

Bring your own water

All tap water on-site is potable but for conservation and your own convenience please bring all the water you’ll need for the duration in reusable containers to reduce plastic consumption. Mt Barney Lodge has been single use plastic bottle free since 2018. Please help us remain this great track record by leaving single use bottles at home.

No Electricity available

There is no electricity available on-site for guests campsites. Please note that the use of generators is not permitted due to noise and pollution concerns. Consider bringing a battery pack to charge your devices.

Conserve space where possible

Our campgrounds need to accomodate a large number of people so please keep your campsites small and conserve space wherever possible.

One car per campsite

Please only keep one car per campsite in the campgrounds. Other cars should be parked in the carpark. Driving around the campgrounds once you have set up your campsite is prohibited.

Keep your valuables safe

We have never had an issue with theft at Mt Barney lodge, however please do not bring anything of value to the festival other than what is completely necessary. All values remain the responsibility of the camper.

ACCOMMODATION & CAMPINGCANCELLATIONSWithin 30 days of check-in: Any cancellations or transfer made less than 30 days prior to check-in will result in full forfeit of deposit.

Outside 30 days of check-in: If a cancellation or transfer is made more than 30 days before check-in, the deposit can be refunded or transferred by either:

• A refund of the deposit amount less a $30 administration fee per each booked building or site.

• 100% of the deposit may be transferred to another booking, or held in held in credit to be used within 12 months.

WET WEATHER• In the advent of extreme adverse weather,

it will be up to the discretion of the Mt Barney Lodge to cancel camping and/or accommodation based on access to the Lodge only. Only then will a full refund or transfer be issued.

• We will not refund a deposit or transfer your booking if the forecast is for possible showers or rain. Be prepared. Our cancellation policy above will apply.

• Mt Barney Lodge’s phone and internet services are often disrupted during extreme weather, however we aim to provide updates via our facebook page.

• Where adventure activities have been cancelled by Mt Barney Lodge due to weather conditions, accommodation bookings will not be transferred or refunded. We recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover any unforeseen weather conditions. (see below).

NO SHOWIf you do not keep your reservation without

notifying us, your deposit is strictly non-refundable and the balance of the tariff will also be charged.

NOISE POLICYTo ensure all guests enjoy their stay, all noise is to be kept to a respectable level at all times, and ‘quiet time’ is from 10pm.

Loud music or singing, inconsiderate and antisocial behaviour will NOT be tolerated at any time, including the following activities:

• No generators.• No chainsaws.• No whip cracking• No drones

PETS POLICYNo Pets are permitted on Mt Barney Lodge property. If you are found with a pet a $500 on the spot fine will be debited from your credit card. In accepting our terms and conditions you are agreeing to permission for this on the spot fine to be debited from your credit card on file.

LINEN (Accommodation only)

Please see accommodation descriptions for bedding configurations.

We reserve the right to seek the replacement cost of any damage caused by negligent or inappropriate use of linen we provide.

SMOKINGSmoking is strictly prohibited in and around the amenities block.

Smoking is strictly prohibited in and around the Homesteads, Huts and On-site Camping Trailers. Professional cleaning fees will apply if smoking is detected.

accommodation which is above and beyond what is reasonable use will be charged at $50/hour.

This applies to dishes, as all dishes are expected to be clean upon departure.

LOST PROPERTY• It is the responsibility of all guests to report

lost property and recover it within 2 weeks.• Please forward a prepaid self addressed

post pack for items to be returned.• If lost property is not collected after this

time, Mt Barney Lodge will donate all unclaimed items to charity.

ADVENTURE ACTIVITIESFull payment is required upon making your activity reservation.Mt Barney Lodge reserves the right to cancel or modify the Program. While every effort is made to adhere to the advertised timetables, the operators of Mt Barney Lodge reserve the right to alter or cancel any service or charge at the time.Strict minimum age restrictions apply for all activities and is not negotiable.

Maximum numbers apply for all activities.

MOUNTAIN EXPEDITIONSPlaces are strictly limited on a first come/first served basis, and your booking is only confirmed once payment has been processed.

A minimum of 4 people is required for any expedition to go ahead.

The Outdoor Leader will make a decision on the weather forecast on the day of the activity. If cloudy or inclement weather is predicted, then the walk will be cancelled and the participant will be offered the next available walk date, or refunded with no penalty.

Where adventure activities have been cancelled by Mt Barney Lodge due to weather conditions, accommodation bookings will not be refunded. We recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover any unforeseen

weather conditions.

If the participant cancels the walk within 30 days, there will be no refunds.

If you do not keep your reservation without notifying us, your deposit is strictly non-refundable.

TRAVEL INSURANCEMt Barney Lodge shall not be liable for any inability to take up the booking due to changing health circumstances, whether that be due to illness, injury, medical admission or other. Mt Barney Lodge is not liable for loss or damage to guests’ valuables/personal property during your stay. We strongly recommend you purchase comprehensive travel insurance at time of booking to cover these unforeseen events. We suggest that the policy should include, but not be limited to the following cover: loss of deposit through cancellation; loss of damage to personal baggage and loss of accommodation/adventure charges and medical expenses.

COVID-19If I am sick will this affect my booking?

• Covid19 presents a new set of decision making for all of us. It is very challenging!

• Our duty of care according to government requirements is to advise you to stay at home if you have suspected Covid symptoms.

• Accordingly with Covid 19, it is your personal responsibility to allow others to be safe by staying at home and seeking medical advice.

• If you are sick or do not wish to attend due to COVID-19 risk or personal symptoms you will forfeit your payment.

The Mt Barney Lodge response to COVID-19 is:

• Ensuring we have and follow a COVIDSAFE plan to ensure the safety of our patrons

• If the Queensland Government imposes a lockdown, full refund will be issued

• If Mt Barney Lodge cancels due to Covid, full refund will be issued.
