concepts.

1. The first is called “jidoka” (which can be loosely translated automation with a human touch) which means that when a problem occur the equipment stop immediately, preventing defective product for being produced.

2. The second is the concept of “just in time” in which each process produces only what is needed by the next process in a continuous flow.

KANBAN SYSTEM

Although many believe that kanban is TPS, the kanban method exist to manage the just in time method. Simply it is an information system which controls the quantities in every process.

In kanban the required amount of units and types are written in a card called kanban. It is send to the people in preceding process to the subsequent process which connects many processes in a Toyota plant. This method is supported by followings.

IMPROVING PERFORMANCE To improve the performance of the

Each group proposes counter measures to correct identified problems and discusses the results.

Through personal interactions in such quality circle group settings, Toyota employees share their ideas for improvement, devise steps to test new ideas for improvement, and assess the result for their tests.

FOR EVERY ROAD IN THE WORLD

Automobiles are not always driven on well-paved roads. Toyota conducts testing by recreating poor road conditions akin to those that exist around the world including flagstones, gravel roads, inclined roads, flooded roads, snow-covered roads, icy roads, and deserts.

The testing for poor road conditions includes driving a total of 900 km in a single day including on actual roads with three drivers taking turns at the wheel.

The testing of tires and other strengths are performed under the harshest, most adverse driving conditions.

Testing is repeated day and night with cars as well as engineers freezing in the extreme cold and sweating in the extreme heat to ensure that Toyota can make cars that will remain comfortable for passengers even under such conditions.
