DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid)

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a nucleic acid that contains the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and some viruses.

Page 5: Presentation1 achu 2

The main role of DNA molecules is the long-term storage of information.

Page 6: Presentation1 achu 2

DNA usually occurs as linear  chromosomes in eukaryotes, and circular chromosomes in prokaryotes.

A single strand of a DNA molecule consists of a chain of nucleotide subunits.

Page 9: Presentation1 achu 2

Each nucleotide is made of the sugar deoxyribose connected to an inorganic phosphate group, and to one of four nitrogenous bases(Adinine , Guanine, Cytocine, Thymine).

Page 10: Presentation1 achu 2

The phodiester bonds that link the nucleotide subunits to each other attach phosphate group of one nucleotide to the deoxyribose sugar of the preceding nucleotide

DNA replication is the process of producing two identical replicas from one original DNA molecule.

DNA REPLICATION

Page 12: Presentation1 achu 2

DNA is made up of two strands and each strand of the original DNA molecule serves as template for the production of the complementary strand, a process referred to as semi conservative replication
