Trade Union is one of the oldest concepts in
the world. Basically, Trade union is the union
of labours and workers. Trade union dealswith the rights, claims and problems of labourswith the employer or management. Though atthe time of establishment it sets goals to
bargain with the employer or managementabout their above problems, now-a-days theirdifferent activities are questioned in theperspective of Bangladesh. So, we need to
justify the above statement to know either the
trade unions are deviated from their right trackor not? If yes, why and what will be the govt.s
job to handle this task in a productive way?

The history of combined labour union movement inBangladesh is spread from few decades. Beforeliberation from British the activities of Trade unions inBangladesh were so limited because of less advancedindustrial structure. Trade unions were centered to
Dhaka, Narayanganj etc. then. Contribution of somepolitical leaders was notable specially. Mainly, theinfluence of progressive political leaders in Tradeunion movement was mentionable. It was normalscenario because of historical impact. The socio-economic and political condition was also suitable field

Destructive activities of Trade unions in
Bangladesh-
If we see the very recent occurrence in the contextof Bangladesh well will find some destructive
activities of Trade unions. We can mention the
Khulna-Jessore highway blockade by the workers of
Alim Jute mills. They were demanding theirarrear wages & good working environment. It is
their right to demand that. But, their demanding
process is not well. It is causing interruption to the
general people. The communication among the
peoples was disconnected for 3 hours on that day. It
also hampers business activities. One scene of that
movement is given bellow as evidence-

From the above discussion we are clear about the destructiveactivities of workers as well as Trade unions. The workers ofgarments industry are becoming too much disobedient &disruptive for the organizations which hampers the
productivity. The weak Trade unions are involved with thesedestructive activities in an alarming rate than well organizedtrade unions.
On the other hand the internal Conflict within the tradeunion is also mentionable. They are also influencingmanagement illogically to recruit people as the sweet will oftrade union leaders.
However, it we will not be able to handle this internal &other conflict among workers, trade unions and owners withinshortest possible time, it will be very difficult to drag theeconomy of our country to a stable position. It needs propertreatment to cope up this complex situation.

What should govt. of Bangladesh do to reduce the
destructive activities of trade union?
Govt. should consider the rights and claims about the labours ofour country. They should design effective plans, policies andprogrammes regarding the labour rights in upcoming budget.
Govt. should not intervene in the election of trade unions. Theyalso should not allow their leaders to compete for trade unionsleadership.
Govt. should not be biased to any specific group. They shouldemphasize on general labour interest. Nepotism must be avoidedregarding the selection of the trade union leaders.
Govt. should make & implement laws in favour of workersregarding the workers economic problems & other hazards toremove these.
Govt. Should find out the claims and complaints of

Govt. Should find out the claims and complaints ofthe workers and should take remedial steps to solvethese workers grievance.
There are some rules, regulations & principles to theorganizations that must be by followed organizations. Here, govt.s duty is to justify whether they are followingthis rules or not regarding labour benefits, workingcondition, environmental aspect etc. If not, govt. should
take effective decisions to implement these rules.
Training, seminar and symposiums, workshop,night-schooling etc. can be arranged to make theworkers as well as trade union leaders conscious and
knowledgeable about their duties and rights.

At last we can say, not only govt. butalso it is the responsibilities of labours
and management to come to a decisionto work for each other and to make thehigher productivity for the organization
Labour should think about organizationand organization should think aboutlabours. It will make triple reward system
to the employees, organization andsociety. It can be shown by a diagram-
