Milan is home to Cattolica’s largest campus. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students from around the world to experience a contemporary education within an unforgetta-ble place.

Originally a monastery connected to St. Ambrose Basilica, it was converted into a University, resulting in a modern campus yet retaining the stunning original architecture.

The sustainability campus is located at Piacenza-Cremona, and enjoys an international reputation in the Agriculture, Agri-Food and Economic sector.

The ancient Roman city of Brescia houses its Schools in the historical building of Martinengo dell’Aquilone.

Finally, the internationally acclaimed School of Medicine and Surgery is located in Rome, a majestic city which contains many of the world’s most impressive historic monuments, including the Colosseum and St Peter’s Square.

To study at Cattolica is to study at a university where the wealth of academic programs and the robustnessof academic standards is matched by the grandeur of our buildings and our equally impressive locations.

Footstepsaround Milan

Did you know?

Inspirationalmemories.””

■ The Province of Milan has 3,000,000 inhabitants ■ Milan is the main industrial, commercial and financial center of Italy ■ The Italian Stock Exchange is a 10 minute walk from campus ■ Milan is home to the most famous fashion and design brands ■ Milan will be hosting Expo 2015: “Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life.”

Milan is a city of movement. People walk everywhere. Their sense of style ranges from casual sophistication to elegant design.

Milan is a city of people. A city full of life. The menus of Mila-nese restaurants have influenced the world’s finest cuisines. And the creations of Italian designers have placed Milan alongside New York, Paris and London as a home of global fashion.

Milan is the undisputed financial, commercial and industrial capital of the country and has a driving economy that makes it the only gate to international capital markets. It has over 8,600 registered active national and international financial and insurance businesses.

The Italian Stock Exchange, la Borsa Italiana, which has over 220 companies listed, is located 10 minutes away from our campus, a prime vicinity for those students studying in the fields of Economics, Management and Banking and Finance.

Being headquarter to many of Italy’s multinational corpo-rations and world famous brands, Cattolica students can breathe and live the energy of a business-centered city life right at the central campus doorstep, and are in the ideal position to put into practice the knowledge gained in the course whilst using their own language abilities and cultural competencies that are so valued and sought.

Milan will also host the Expo 2015 World Fair with the cen-tral theme of “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” providing companies operating in a wide range of fields (from food and food biotechnologies to renewable energies and logi-stics) the chance to network, discuss trends and encourage business and growth. Cattolica students are in an excellent position to closely observe and discuss the planning of this key event.

Yet despite the opportunities which accompany a busy and successful city, the essence of Milan is as true today as in centuries past. With the world-famous opera theatre, La Scala, the imposing Duomo Cathedral, the stunning Castello Sforzesco and the young and trendy Colonne di San Lorenzo all closeby, Milan marks its presence on the global cultural scene too.

In short, Milan is a beautiful, cultured and dramatic city, offe-ring a multitude of features that tourists rarely discoverand an equal number of opportunities for international stu-dents to develop their academic and professional careers.

Master in International Cooperation &Development

The political, economic and social development of least developed countries is one of the major challenges of globalization. Growing interdependence and integration offer a chance to strengthen cooperative relations between the Northern and Southern hemispheres. The call to coope-ration is urgent: poverty, inequality, conflict, instability, and uncertainty still affect everyday life of a majority of world population. The Master’s Course in International Cooperation and Development (MIC&D) offers a privileged framework for designing tentative solutions to the above mentioned issues through the collective action of governmental and non-governmental agents, bridging gaps among people, groups, and institutions.

Learning objectives

The MIC&D trains professionals to be able to contribute to development cooperation with creativity, personality and competence by interpreting local and international events, interacting with all the stakeholders, identifying and mana-ging environmentally and local culture-friendly interventions. For this purpose, the program provides the students with a basic multidisciplinary training and specialized technical and managerial competences.

Career opportunities Students completing MIC&D are equipped to manage international cooperation and development projects in different sectors, consistently with their previous training and experience, within several organizations: NGOs, international institutions, public administration, private companies, etc.

Curriculum

MIC&D is structured as four complementary levels, fostering multidimensional training and integrating scientific methodo-logies and operative competences.

1st level - Scientific training & management skills. Areas of study:

■ Economic and human development ■ Geopolitics ■ Trade and finance for development ■ Development law and institutions ■ Project cycle management

2nd level - Professional training. Areas of study: ■ Development actors and strateges ■ Crisis prevention and recovery ■ Development, aid and governance ■ Partnership for human rights ■ Enhancing cooperative skills

What are my housing options?

We are aware that finding a great place to live while studying abroad can really enhance your experience of university life.

MIL ServiceCattolica’s student housing options are as numerous as they are varied. ■ wireless internet connection ■ utilities (water and electricity) ■ cleaning service ■ basic cable television ■ extra amenities such as a DVD player, TV, and kitchenware.

Through a dedicated, team-oriented approach, MIL Service is committed to providing every student with the best residential experience. The young and professional team is what makes the service competi-tive within the housing market since they understand the students’ needs and wants, and respond with a quick and concrete solution. For more information, please visit > www.milservice.com On-campus dorms

Students may also apply for ac-commodation in a sought-after on-campus dorm > www.milservice.com

Housing announcement boardYou can also check the university

housing announcement board or seek assistance from ESN or ESEG,

the International students Associations. Whether you live in our on-campus

dorms or in an apartment community, you are sure to have one of the most exciting and

memorable times of your life.

Medical insurance

E.U. Citizens If you are a national from either a E.U. Member State or an EEA country or you are of Swiss nationality, you should have a European Health Insurance Card (eHIC, Italian acronym: TeAM) obtained in your home country from your national healthcare authority. The European Health Insu-rance Card (or eHIC) allows you to receive medical treatment in another member state for free, or at a reduced cost. A patient contribution is required for prescriptions, medical examinations, oral and dental care.

Non-E.U. CitizensIf you are a non-E.U. citizen you must take out an Inter-national Health Insurance which covers costs related to medical treatment and admission to hospital. If allowed by the Embassy/Consulate, you can also buy an Italian national Health Insurance upon arrival to Milan. It is called “INA Assitalia” and costs € 98 for a period of 12 months, but only covers emergency treatments. UCSC International will provide all necessary forms during the Orientation Events.

Student services at Cattolica

At Cattolica, international students should never fear being alone. We have invested in a range of services which ensure that our international visitors are fully supported. From the moment students arrive, our objective is to guarantee that the unique Cattolica welcome is wide open to all.

International Student CenterOn paper they are just names. But once you are enrolled at Cattolica, Laura, Francesca, Gloria, Annalisa and Danila will soon become your advisors, mentors and friends. The International Student Center team is not only responsible for promoting the attractions and benefits of Cattolica, they are there for the duration of your time at Cattolica. And beyond.

International Students AssociationsThe Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and the Exchange Student Erasmus Guide (ESEG), are two associations that organize numerous social and cultural events, tours and recreational activities. Furthermore they provide an invaluable support network.

LibraryCattolica’s library system is one of the most prestigious in Italy and the library in Milan, with 50,000 volumes is the largest and oldest of the University. It is currently supported by all kinds of modern technology, including an electronic catalogue that can be consulted over the web. Consistent with the rest of the University’s tendency to be unique, the library distingui-shes itself from others by being entirely underground.

Sport FacilitiesThe University’s Center for Sports (CUS) is an association of students attending Milanese universities that manages various sport facilities and disciplines. The CUS information point is located on main campus (Largo Gemelli, 1). There is also a brand new, trendy and elegant gymnasium located just five minutes walking distance from UCSC, with brand new fitness equipment, sauna, swimming pool and squash courts. UCSC International in collaboration with GetFIT are offering gym subscriptions at a special price to Cattolica’s international students.

Health CenterThe Cattolica Health Center provides all enrolled students medical care, nursing care and psychological counseling. General, specialist (gynecology, ophthalmology, diet) and preventative medical examinations are available to students. During the center’s opening hours, the Nursing Service is always on hand to administer first aid, medication and pre-scribed drugs, measure blood pressure, take body tempera-ture, provide information about local health services, and give

health advice. Access is free, no appointment needed.

Study & Work AbroadUniversità Cattolica gives

you the opportunity to enhance your univer-

sity studies by taking part in an interna-tional experience during your de-gree. All students studying at Uni-versità Cattolica can study abroad for 1 or 2 seme-sters, take part into

Language support

Studying in a country with a different culture and language can be a very daunting experience. The Italian language& culture course is designed especially to help students take their first steps and build their knowledge of the Italian language and environment, giving them the necessary tools to better communicate with locals and deal with everyday situations.

The students’ learning journey will be guided by a team of qualified and experienced native speaking instructors who know the situations you are likely to encounter and will point you in the right direction.

Language support is also provided by Cattolica’s Internatio-nal Students Association, ESEG, through the extracurricular activity, Language Sharing. This peer-to-peer method gives students the possibility to be a teacher of his/her native language with another person from a different background. Language sharing creates the perfect multicultural environment for international and local students.

Italian language & culture course

Local transportation

Getting around Milan, Piacenza and Cremona is very easy and accessible.

In Milan, the public transport system is run by Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM) which operates the metro, bus and tram network, whilst in Piacenza the bus network is run by Tempi.

All tickets can be purchased at newsstands, from the tabac-chi (tobacconist stores marked with a large “T”), or at the metro stations. In Milan, the same ticket can be used for all three transport networks, for up to 90 minutes, however the same ticket cannot be used twice for the metro even within the 90 minutes.

For students studying in Milan, we recommend purchasing the re-chargeable ATM transportation pass for € 17 per month (plus a €10 subscription fee). In Piacenza, the re-chargeable Tempi transportation pass costs € 27 per month. Information regarding all the local transport systems will be given at the Orientation Events upon arrival.

Can I work while studying?

Non-E.U. students entering Italy on a student VISA are per-mitted to work part-time (20 hours per week). Please note that many part-time job employers require students to have a good knowledge of the Italian language. Students may check the international announcement board at the Inter-national Office upon arrival or the work offers board at the main campus for job openings.

What’s next?

Internship opportunities

Each master program includes an internship. Students can find placement opportunities within the network of the programs. In those particularly popular companies and or-ganizations where places are limited, students will be asked to sit an interview and will be recruited by the company or organization.

Students can also look for the internship by themselves, pro-vided that they obtain the approval by the Faculty. An online platform gives access to thousands of internship offers and students can contact directly the company/firm. There is no set rule about payment. Some internships may include a reimbursement (lunch and transportation), other may offer a monthly retribution, and finally some internships may not be paid. This information is provided in each offer.

Career service

Your experience in Cattolica is the first step towards a fulfil-ling education, which will allow you to excel in the workfield.

Cattolica’s Career Service will accompany you through this journey: the dedicated staff will help orientate you along the paths of research, internships and employment, providing highly valued information and support.

We can safely say that numbers speak for themselves: over 6,500 internships are undertaken annually, and the Career Service boasts contacts with over 2,000 companies.
