The wisdom tradition presumes a fundamental order in creation and life, but it does not make the human person a predetermined subject. The human person can decide to live in conformity with the way life unfolds and this is wisdom; or he can choose to disregard this order, and that is foolishness. So, there is always human freedom at one end and the human choice at the other end. True wisdom calls us to choose life and whatever enhances it. True wisdom, that is a gift of the Holy Spirit, will enrich us into life in ways we never thought was possible. It is this enriching insight that Jesus describes in the gospel reading this weekend: "You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, 'You shall not kill, and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.' But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, 'You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna" (Matthew 5: 21-22 NAB). In this text, Jesus interprets several Jewish teachings from the eschatological perspective— the new law, the inauguration of the realm of God. He presents ethics that does not contradict but transcends Moses' law. This new vision inaugurates righteousness driven, not by the letters of the law, but from the heart of love. Love grows as we choose to act in love towards others, and that is true wisdom. God is good all the time; all the time God is good! Fr. Linus Umoren, CM-Pastor www.sacredheartchurchdupo.org

A Reflection from the desk of the Pastor…February 16, 2020 The Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time

The Ancient Greek aphorism "man know thyself" has become one of the most used religious and psychological injunctions. This directive is to draw people to self-discovery and the journey toward self-mastery. The longer we live, the more we realize that life presents to us a series of choices. Obedient people choose what they have been told to do, but wise people choose what good they should do. In the first reading this weekend, Sirach draws the reader’s attention to true wisdom. The wisdom tradition presumes a fundamental order in creation and life, but it does not make the human person a predetermined subject. The human person can decide to live in conformity with the way life unfolds and

this is wisdom; or he can choose to disregard this order, and that is foolishness.
