SWEEEET!!!Move over New York City, California, Chicago and Atlanta. Lil’ ole Wesley Chapel is on the map! If you have not heard yet, the intersection of Bruce B Downs and SR 56 is now the largest intersec-tion in the whole United States!! (Well it is tied with Sunset Blvd in Las Vegas).

Really; think about it; Wesley Chapel and New Tampa are growing like wildfire and we now

have the biggest (tied) intersec-tion in all of the country. That is amazing and again makes me pleased as punch to be smack dab in the middle of this incredible community. What could be better for residents and businesses?

We are so dedicated to our com-munity and all love to be involved. We have, right here in our own back yard, so many events, hap-penings, charities, organizations, A rated schools, social clubs, sports fields, fantastic restaurants, dedi-cated business owners and many beautiful neighborhoods. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for you. Thank you to everyone in the Wesley Chapel/New Tampa area for making this area #1! Cindi [email protected]

spring events are in the air!“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s Party!’” – Robin Williams

We’ve said goodbye to the chill of winter, now it is time to party in Spring! The season filled with endless reasons to celebrate has officially begun and Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club is the perfect place to host your milestone events. Spring is the time for graduation parties, school banquets, birthday parties, communions, baptisms, baby and bridal showers, anniversary parties, sports team celebrations, and, of course, weddings!

These events are all reasons to gather your friends and family at your Club and recognize these special moments of someone in your life. Let us show your loved ones how much you care with a beautiful celebration in honor of their achievement. We provide gourmet cuisine, gorgeous ambiance, and unbeatable service for an overall seamless event where you and your guests simply arrive, celebrate, and leave us with the rest! Heading outdoors to the pool or the beach for the day? Let us worry about the snacks or picnic basket with our delicious to-go platters and catering services. Swing by the Club on the way to your final destination and pick up what will surely be the highlight of your day!

Your personal party planners, Jeannelle Rossano and Jenny Leland, are just a phone call away from making your milestone event into a magical moment in you and your loved ones’ lives. Call the Club today at 813.972.1991 and ask for extension 603 or 604 for more information and to start planning what will surely be the best party of the year!

In a time and economy where unfortunately the game of golf and in particular may courses and private clubs are struggling, it is good to know

that your neighborhood club, Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club, is actually bucking the trend and growing its Golf Membership! The Club, recognizing the challenging times of the last several years, launched a very aggressive Membership program back in June of 2010. The goal was to increase the number of Golf Members in the Club in a creative way that actually allowed current and new club Members’ dues to be lowered as the Membership grew. The ultimate goal is to reach a golf Membership of 440 by April 15th, 2011. When the goal is achieved all Golf Membership dues will be reduced to the new incredible rates with full-privilege Golf Memberships starting at just $205 per month.

During a recent conversation with Miranda Hilton, Club Membership Director, she was proud to say that the Club grew by a total of 66 Golf Members in the last half of 2010 and is now only 50 Memberships away from their overall Golf Membership goal. If you are considering Club

Membership there has never been a better time to take advantage of this unique opportunity. In addition to golf, your Membership also allows you full access to the tennis and athletic facility, aquatics area, exercise classes, Member rates on after-school child care services and summer camps as well as specialty Member pricing for our luxuri-ous 25 hotel suites.

Along with your home club privileges at Tampa Palms, as part of the ClubCorp family, you can also enjoy the Tampa Bay Society of Clubs, Cross Bay Membership, which gives you full access privileges at the other three ClubCorp country clubs in the bay area and Signature Gold, which is exclusive access to the entire network of more than 160 ClubCorp Clubs from coast to coast.

With only 50 Golf Memberships remaining we expect to sell out quickly, so if you are interested in becoming a Member of the Tampa Palms Country Club family please contact Miranda Hilton at 813-972-1991.

We look forward to meeting you soon. v

GOLF TIp oF The moNTh

From New Golf Head Pro Jeff Anderson PGA

How can I hit the ball further?

There is one question that comes up in most golf discussions: “How can I hit the ball further? “well, as much as the golf industry and my peers in the instruction side of the game want you to believe, it is very simple. There is one important aspect in creating efficient distance – with control.

In order to maximize every aspect that goes into a golf swing, you must hit the ball squarely on the clubface. For most players, getting the clubface squared on the back of the ball is either an accident – or a miracle. regardless of whether you have a clubhead speed of more than 100 miles per hour, or one that is less than 50 miles per hour, it is

important that you learn how to control the club face with every club in your bag.

Drill: In order to have better clubface control, you need to start with the shortest of strokes - the putting stroke - and practice squaring the club face on the ball at impact.

start by drawing a line around the ball, and then on a flat putting green or surface, set the ball down with the line straight up and down and practice “rolling” the ball 8-10 feet so that the line remains constant throughout its roll. You cannot achieve a straight line with anything less than square contact of the face on the back of the ball. Once you have mastered rolling ball properly from 8-10 feet, increase the distance, then begin to work on squaring the clubface with chip shots with a 6- or 7-iron, then pitch shots, then eventually full shots.

I have a simple question for you—how many calories does one need to eat to lose weight?

That does sound like a simple question, and I could give you a simple answer, but it might not be all that accurate. It would be easy to say that the average female should take in about 1200-1500 calories to lose weight, and maybe 1800-2100 for males, but that doesn’t mean that these numbers will necessarily work for you! The ability to lose weight depends on a number of variables, including your resting metabolic rate, your activity level (both general daily activities and exercise), and even the calories you burn while digesting food. These all factor into the expenditure side of the energy balance equation, which then helps to determine the intake side as well. If you want the best and most accurate calorie estimate, you need to take a personal inventory. Talk to a trainer about getting your resting metabolic rate tested, and then have him/ her determine how many calories you expend each day. This will go a long way to establishing a recommended calorie level for weight loss. Good luck!

I’m smack-dab in the middle of menopause and, as expected, I seem to be gaining weight.

However, the weight seems to be finding its way to my mid-sec-tion, which is odd for me person-ally. Any logical explanation?

You might not want to hear this, but yes, there is a logical explanation. As you’re probably aware, many women seem prone to gaining weight in their hip and butt areas. Part of the reason that weight ac-cumulates in these areas is because of the effect that estrogen has on the body. However, as you reach your menopausal years, your estrogen levels drop. As a result, the ratio of estrogen to testosterone drops as well, and, low and behold, you end up storing that extra weight where men tend to gain their weight—specifically the mid-section. I’m sure you’re not all that thrilled to hear this, but it’s just a fact of life. Naturally, most women want to know what they can do about it, but aside from preventing weight gain in the first place (which can be difficult), there isn’t much you can do. Just be diligent with your diet and exercise as you approach menopause, and try to accept the age-related changes that all of our bodies go through.

When Rachel Carlson, resident of Tampa Palms, needed community service hours for high school, she

knew that she wanted to volunteer with animals. She just loves them, but the Humane Society wouldn’t let her volunteer with them. Then her mom, Dianne reminded her of the all-volunteer rescue group at the Petsmart by BJ’s where they had adopted their cat over a year ago. Cat Crusaders a 501(c)(3) not for profit, was happy to have Rachel become a volunteer with them, and now Rachel is on the kennelling sched-ule where she is responsible during her volunteer hours for cleaning the adoption center at Petsmart in New Tampa, by Bruce B Downs and 75, next to BJ’s. Cat Crusaders does adoptions there 7 days a week. Of course, Cat Crusaders provided the training and the schedule is set a month at a time, so that everyone can volunteer as much or as little

as they’d like for the month. While the adoption center is kenneled 7 days a week, the busiest times are on the weekends, and Rachel helps Cat Cru-saders every other Sunday, by showing cats and kittens to interested people who might adopt these wonderful, fully-vetted, healthy, litter box trained, indoor-only cats. She helps with adoptions, talks with people and the best part, she gets to love the cats and kittens!

Take for example, the cat Rachel is holding in the picture, Nala. Nala was rescued by Cat Crusad-ers from animal services with her young kittens 6 weeks ago. A foster family raised them until the kittens were 8 weeks old and big enough to be fixed and fully vetted. Only fully vetted kitties go up for adoption with Cat Crusaders. Rachel enjoyed volunteering so much, she got her mom involved, and now their family fosters a cat or kit-ten that needs a break from the store.

The rescue is always looking for volunteers, entire families can participate together, and students can get service hours by helping out. There are many things to do from kenneling the adoption center, to helping with adoptions, to fostering a cat, providing them a temporary home until we find a forever home. There’s even fundraising for those who are allergic but still want to help out.
