First Sunday of Advent
The parish hosted the town of Sharon Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 22. Nearly 300 persons representing Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Hindu traditions came together to offer gratitude for all that the one God of love and peace has given to us. Ministers from many of the faith communities offered readings, reflections, and prayers for peace and reconciliation especially during this time of global un-rest. The service began with Fr. Vinnie asking all to observe a moment of silence to honor Ezra Swartz, a young man from Sharon who was killed in an attack in Israel last week. This was followed by readings and reflections from Rabbi Randy Kafka from Temple Kol Tiknah, Nita Desai of the Hindu community in Sharon, and Reverend Stephan Alspach from the First Congregational Church. Following a musical inter-lude, the most moving moment of the service came with the reflections from Rabbi Ron Fish from Temple Israel and Imam Abdul Rahman Ahmad from the Islamic Center of New England. Their reflections con-cluded with both men reciting a common prayer together and embracing in a sign of unity during a time of grief and division. Reverend James Robinson from the Unitarian Church invited participants to bring to the altar food to be donated to the Ilse Marks Food Pantry. Four members of Youth Lead, an interfaith group of young people who meet bi-monthly to learn about different religious traditions, invited participants to meet someone they didn't know in the congregation and to learn about something for which they were thankful. Fr. Vinnie concluded the service with a closing prayer and an invitation for all participants to come to O'Connell Hall for a reception. It was a moving service that highlighted the unique contribution the town of Sharon can make to interfaith understanding and dialogue. Many who participated in the service for the first time said they wanted to make this an annual tradition.
Special thanks to all who helped make this event so enriching.

Youth Ministry News
Christmas Party Youth Night: All middle school stu-dents are invited to a Christmas Party Youth Night on Fri-day, December 11 from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. in O'Connell Hall. Please bring a bag of candy to share for decorating.
Donate Gifts to My Brother’s Keeper: Please pick a tag from the parish’s giving tree. Tags for gifts going to My Brother’s Keeper will be available the weekend of No-vember 28 and 29. Please return all gifts the following weekend (December 5 and 6). Middle School students will bring the gifts that OLOS has collected when they volunteer at My Brother’s Keeper on December 10.
Sign-Up to Serve at Christmas in the City: Please con-sider taking time to serve those in need. Christmas in the City, a Christmas party for 3000 homeless children in the greater-Boston area, is an annual event that has been well-attended and loved by OLOS parishioners for many years. It takes many hands to make this event happen, and your service is needed! If you have college-aged students coming home for the holidays, consider participating in this service opportunity as a family. (Please note that vol-unteers for Christmas in the City must be sixteen years of age or older. Additionally, the parish must register our volunteers, so please sign up by December 1 if you would like to participate.) You can learn more about Christmas in the City and other service opportunities and you can sign up to serve by visiting the parish website and finding the “Sign Up To Serve” box in the bottom right corner of the home page.
2016 Summer Mission Trips: Calling all middle school students, high school students and adult parishioners to serve those in need, build community, and grow in faith by attending Just Five Days (a middle school mission trip to Springfield, MA the week of July 18-22) or Young Neighbors in Action (a high school mission trip to Worcester, MA the week of July 24-30). Spaces are lim-ited so register by submitting a $50 deposit (made payable to Our Lady of Sorrows) to Teresa Coda by December 10.
Invitation to Advent Evening Prayer (Vespers), Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.
"When media and the digital world become omnipresent, their influence can stop people from learning how to live wisely, to think deeply and to love generously. - Pope Francis, in his Encyclical, Laudato Si’; On Care for Our Common Home.
Evening Prayer, offered each Wednesday during Advent at 7:30 p.m. in the church, is a thoughtful, quiet pause in De-cember’s noise and distraction. Along with readings and music to suit the season, each service includes a reflection on themes in The Canticle of Saint Francis and the Holy Father’s Encyclical, Laudato Si’; On Care for Our Com-mon Home. Our homilists will be Joseph Favazza, Pro-vost, Stonehill College (12/02), A. Brandt Henderson, PhD (12/09), Jeffrey Bloechl, Associate Professor of Philoso-phy, Boston College (12/13), and Catherine Cornille, Pro-fessor and Chair of Theology, Newton College Alumnae Chair of Western Culture, Boston College (12/23). Enjoy candlelight, incense, beautiful music and a subdued tone during a frenzied season. Why not give yourself the gifts of quiet time and contemplation?
Advent Workshop Thank you to all those who helped make our annual Advent Workshop
such a joyful celebration. Seeing the Middle School stu-dents coach and guide the younger children as they made crafts truly demonstrated our OLOS family at its best. Thanks to the Middle School students, to the Second Grade parents who donated refreshments, to Jean Santos and Carol Roberto for donating greenery, to Kathy Hawes for purchasing the oasis rings, and to all those who helped with set up and clean up. Extra special thanks to Monica LaFond, Committee Chair, for all her months of hard work in spearheading the Workshop.

Collection – November 22
The average cost to run the parish is $9,500 per week and our expectation is that 70% ($6,700 will come from the weekly offertory. On November 22, the parishioners con-tributed $7,156. $1,526 was collected for the Second Collection last week-end for the Women Religious. Thank you for your gener-osity! $89 was raised for Heifer International at the Advent Workshop. We also took in $440 for the wreaths which were sold at the Advent Workshop. At the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, $1,393 was col-lected for the Ilse Marks Food Pantry. We are so grateful for your generosity.
From Senior Deacon Mike
The readings for the first Sunday in Advent would seem to echo the readings from the last Sundays of the previous year.
In fact, the structure of the Advent season has that design in mind. It is as if we rewind the Gospel narra-tive from the prediction of the end time through the en-counter with Jesus and John the Baptist at the Jordan River to the announcement of the impending birth of the child to Mary.
This period of ‘waiting’ and remembering and reviewing a familiar story allows us to savor the joy once more on Christmas Day.
Be alert!
Newly Baptized
It is with great joy that we welcome into our parish community six chil-dren who were baptized this past weekend by Fr. Vinnie. Please keep
them and their families in your prayers.

A Letter from Fr. Vinnie
Last weekend, Fr. Vinnie wrote a letter to the parishioners which was inserted into the bulletin. Here is a summary of his letter: Dear Parishioners: I love the season of autumn; the colorful leaves, the pump-kins, the brisk fresh air. This week we will gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving, ushering in a season of newness and hope. It is so appropriate to thank God for all he has given us. It is even more so to bring his blessings forward into a new year. I want to thank all of you who bless my life every day. May your feast this week with your family and friends be blessed. I will be spending Thanksgiving in Colorado with my sister and her family. I am looking forward to it. On Friday, December 4, I will have minor surgery for a hernia. I will be spending a couple of nights at my brother’s home. The Masses are all covered. All I need from you are your prayers. Sincerely yours, Fr. Vincent P. Doolan, Pastor
