Twenty-Seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time

From The Pastor’s Desk

INSTALLATION MASS Thanks to everyone who made last week’s Mass of Installation such a wonderful event. I think it was a great faith event and one that brought us together as a parish community. We can be proud. Thanks es-pecially to Bishop Reed for his presence and ministry

RESPECT LIFE MONTH October is “Respect Life” month. The essence of our identity and worth is that we are made in the image and likeness of God and the source of our dignity is that we are loved by God. The Church teaches that we should protect life from conception until natural death and in between. A “Culture of Life” is not ad-vanced by and cannot tolerate abortion, euthanasia and the death penalty. It is heartbreaking that on “Protect Life Sunday” so many people lost their lives because we allow weapons of war to be available for killing our innocent fellow citizens.

“DISCIPLES IN MISSION” This week I spent three afternoons in sessions at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center in Braintree exploring the processes and goals of the new evangelization. We are fully aware of what is happening in our church communities. This program does not spend time denouncing the culture but rather exploring ways that we can present the Gospel in changing times. We are confident of our message. You will hear more of this. In fact, if it is to be successful, it will require your involvement.

DOORS You will notice that the doors of the Church have been refinished. This completes our “Paint the Church” campaign. A generous parishioner has donated the entire amount to refurbish the doors. We are most grateful to him and to all of you who contributed to our campaign including of course the do-nors of the $10,000 match. God bless your generous hearts.

~ Fr. Frank

‘I Must Change’ “How often we say: ‘I must change, I can’t go on like this… My life, on this path, will not bear fruit, it will be a useless life and I will not be happy’. How often these thoughts come to us.. And Jesus by our side, with His hand outstretched, says to us, ‘Come, come to me. I will do the work: I will change your heart, I will change your life, I will make you happy.’… Jesus is with us and invites us to change our life. It is He, with the Holy spirit, Who sows in us this restlessness, to change our life and to become a little better. Let us follow the Lord’s invitation without resistance, because only if we open ourselves up to His mercy will we encounter the true life and true joy. We must merely throw open the door, and He will do all the rest. He does everything, but we must open the door of our heart so that He can heal us and help us go ahead. I assure you that we will be happier.” ~ Pope Francis
