    1. MemoriesPass the entrance test and then start studying in CNNOne of the unforgettable memories in my life until now is when I knew I had passed the

entrance exam forCNN. It was in the afternoon in the summer when I was still sleepingthe air-conditioned room as usual. My grandfather walked in, woke me up just by sayin

Your mom has just called me, she said you have passed the entrance exam forCNN. A

soon as hearing the news, I got up quickly, ran out of the air-conditioned room, turned o

the computer. I have never got up at once when I was woken up by my parents or my

grandparents, especially when Im in a deep sleep in a cool roomlike that. I cant believ

Did I really pass? I was full of surprise and excitement. I thought others must do the test

better than me. Having turned on the computer, I looked up formy marks and was surpr

again. I havent ever thought I could get scores as high as those. That was the happiestmoment in my life. My grandparents smiled at me merrily and congratulated me on pass

that exam. I was too happy to say anything. All I could do was to smile. I strongly belie

that I was really lucky. Then I started to look up for my friends scores. I guessed she

passed the exam. I just wanted to see how high her scores were. However, she didnt. I

didnt want her to be sad so I decided not to inform her but to let her find it out herself.

Indeed, the next morning, she texted me, telling me that she failed the exam and

congratulated me on passing it. It was an awkward moment to see her sad while I was in

very good mood. Anyway, it is the memory I will remember all my life, the moment wh

knew I could go to the school that I always dreamt of.

A jack-o'-lantern is a carvedpumpkin, orturnip with a flame or candle inside. There is alegend sticking to the Jack-o-lanterns origin. An Irishman, a drunk and a prankster,

managed to make both the God and the Devil angry. He died, and neither heaven nor h

-Another well-known typical activity on Halloween Eve istrick-or-treating(or guising

is acustomary practice for children onHalloween in many countries. Children

incostumes travel from house to house in order to ask for treats such as candy (or, in so

cultures, money) with the question "Trick or treat?". The "trick" is a (usually idle) threa

-Whats about games? Is there anything special on this day? Have you ever heard of Ap

bobbing? It is a game often played onHalloween. The game is played by filling a tub olarge basin with water and puttingapples in the water. Because apples are less dense tha

water, they will float at the surface. Players (usually children) then try to catch one with

their teeth. Using arms is not allowed, and they are often tied behind the back to prevent

    players from cheating.

-Last but not least, about food. Although theres no longer required, the tradition of eati

certainvegetarian foods for thisday develops, including the consumption of

    apples,colcannon,cider,potato pancakes,andsoul cakes.

-Who wants to be a millionaire?is one of the Britain game show, which is on TV for

first time on 4thSeptember 1998. Here is the symbol of this game show

*Rules of the original format of the show

-There is a preliminary round, called "Fastest Finger First", where the contestants are as

to put four answers into a particular order. The contestant who has the answer correctly

in the shortest time is the one to sit on a chair known as the "Hot Seat," and continue to

play. If no one gets the question right, that question is thrown out and another question i

    given.

-After that, the chosen contestant is asked increasingly difficult questions. Questions are

multiple-choice and the contestant must choose the correct one. On answering a questio

correctly, the contestant wins a certain amount of money

-After viewing a question, the contestant can leave the game with the money already wo

rather than attempting an answer. If the contestant answers a question incorrectly, then a

of their winnings are lost, except that the 1,000 and 32,000 prizes are guaranteed: if a

player gets a question wrong above these levels, then the prize drops to the previous

guaranteed prize. Answering the 4,000 questions wrong reduces the money to 1,000.Below is the money you can get for a correct answer at each level.

    Question 15: 1,000,000

-The game ends when the contestant answers a question incorrectly or decides not to

answer a question, or answers all questions correctly.

    -Lifelines

If the contestant is unsure about the answer of a question, he or she can use one or more

"lifelines" which provide assistance. In the original format of the show, three lifelines w

    available to the contestant:

-50/50: Using this lifeline, the contestant asks the host to have the computer randomly

eliminate two of the incorrect answer choices, leaving the contestant with a choice betw

the correct answer and one incorrect one.

-Ask the Audience: The contestant asks the studio audience which answer they believe be correct. Members of the studio audience indicate their choices using anaudience

responsesystem. The results are immediately displayed on the contestant's and host's

screens. This is a popular lifeline, known for its accuracy.

    4. PopulationPopulation explosion*Definition and situation: What is population explosion?

-It is a sudden and rapid increase in population.

-The population is growing faster. In the past, it used to take us 300. 000 years to reach first billion. However, in only 12 years at the end of the 20 th century, the population

    18/20

*What leads to the population explosion?

-deaths of war or disease used to limit population growth. Nowadays, thanks to medical

care and improvement in public health, more people can survive, which leads to a low

    death rate.

-In developing countries, especially in the countryside, not only are people given no advabout contraception but also the desire to have male children is making the birth rate hig

    than ever.

-Death rate is low but birth rate is high, as a result, there a population explosion.

*How badly does the population explosion affect the world?

    - The rapid growth of population led to a shortage of food, clean water and housing;

therefore, many people are below the poverty line.

Population explosion also has bad impact on society, for instant, unemployment and

    illiteracy.

And it also makes the public transport overloaded, many people want to come back to th

hometowns on special occasions but there are not enough seats for everyone. So this is

    what happens!

One more thing, you would like to go to a beach on vacation but do you want to be on a

    beach like this?

*And now we turn to the last part: Solutions

  • 8/12/2019 Oral Test-HKI-lp 11 (1)

    20/20

With the aim of 2 children per couple, we have to have practical solutions

-Firstly, government should raise the residents awarenessof the result of having more t

    two children.

-Another way is to educate girls to prevent themselves from being pregnant when they a

not married.-Last but not least, every couple should be given free contraceptives and advice about

    contraception

It is the end of my presentation. Thank you for listening!
