The mission of the Boone First United Methodist Church is to glorify God by nurturing disciples to

live and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hatch ‘em - Match ‘em

& Dispatch ‘em

There is a time for everything, a season for

every activity under heaven. ...God has made everything beautiful for its own time.

—Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11

In a week or two, the leaves will all be gone. The trees will be bare. Au-tumn will have vanished and winter will have descended. Cold will have conquered.

So much of our culture...and our modern marketing...is focused on the vibrancy of youth. Even when the reality of aging knocks on our door, we seek to put it off, or pre-tend it is not there. We cover it up. We deny it. We nip, tuck, and stretch it away. BUT MOST OF ALL...we hang on to the illusions of our own youth...of what used to be. And before you know it...autumn vanishes and winter descends.

I’ve received a couple “wake-up” calls recently...

—Like many of you, I got my photo taken for the new church directory. My response to seeing it, perhaps like some of you as well, was...Wow! When did I get so “seasoned”!

—I look in the mirror, and instead of seeing hairs that have always been brown, I see some lighter shades of brown (OK...shades of gray!).

—Some aches and pains...that used to go away...have taken up permanent residence.

Guess What?...

...AUTUMN IS COMING!

The vivid colors of autumn always impress me...and it seems to me, that much of our life’s color and vibrancy can be found in the autumn of life...

—Kids grow up and move out.

—Opportunities for deeper relationships with our spouse and friends are present.

—All those years of experience and faithfulness open the door for greater degrees of wisdom, influence, and contribution.

—Moving past the illusions of “what used to be”...maybe we grow into a greater reflection of what God “wants us to be”.

We can’t prevent our aging any more than we can prevent the colored leaves from letting go of the autumn trees. We can, however, color our lives in vibrant ways as we let God’s glory show forth in the changes of life...and the commitment to be alive to that glory, no matter what season it is.

There is a time for everything, a season for every activity

under heaven. ...God has made everything

beautiful For it’s own time.

RUMMAGE SALE

The United Methodist Women want to thank all of you who donated quality and quantity items, gave of your time to work the sale, and to those who shopped. Also, thanks to Donna, our Church Secretary, for designing the poster, and her constant help along the way and to Ben for his help with setting up and tearing down tables, etc. Our gross amount was $4,574.00. This money goes to the UMW Mission Projects which include: Access, Impact, Boone County Cares, Boone County Recovery Services, Salvation Army, Shop with a Cop, Project Save, Boone County Community Services, and Boone Hope Foundation. Also, we will be helping with the Youth Mission Trip next spring along with other church related things. We plan to be back again next year as we are most proud of our church and it’s congregation! Blessings, Flo Nimmo, Connie Cross, Karen Johnson, and Jean Tronick

A Thanksgiving Special Offering will be taken to help support the Habitat for Humanity

local program. This is a Christian housing ministry that has provided efficient, safe,

and affordable homes and critical repairs to low income families. In Boone, Greene,

and Guthrie Counties, 26 families have been assisted with new homes and 28 more

with home repairs since the programs beginning in 1995.

A Christmas Special Offering will be taken to help support the Hawthorn Hill in Des

Moines. Hawthorn Hill’s mission is to establish and operate housing programs for

homeless families with children that help them obtain permanent housing and to

provide services to help families achieve economic self-sufficiency. Their New

Directions Shelter provides shelter and services for approximately 105 to 130

homeless families with children every year.

ADVENT CHURCH

DECORATING

The Worship Committee is inviting all church members to join

forces in decorating the church for the Christmas Season. On

Sunday, November 25th, the decorating will begin immediately

following the first service, approximately 10:00 am. If needed,

we will finish it following the second service, approximately

12:15 pm. Many hands will help to complete this project in a

timely fashion.

POINSETTIA ORDERS

It’s time to place your order for poinsettia’s

that will decorate the sanctuary during Advent. The cost is

$9.00 each (same as last year), and the deadline for orders is

Thursday, November 23rd. If you would prefer to give a

monetary donation, it will be designated for the youth mission

trip in the spring. Order forms are in the bulletin or you may

call Donna in the church office at 432-4660.

UNITED METHODIST STUDENT DAY

SPECIAL OFFERING

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 25

YOUR GIFT MATTERS

Your gift supports student scholarships administered by the

General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. When you

give, you enrich ministry and help connect students to their

faith.

Pray and seek the Lord about what he would have you give.

CHURCH OFFICE HELP NEEDED

I have two groups of folks that are in need of some additional help.

1. Bulletin Folders - There are 5 groups of three that rotate on Fri-

day mornings at 9:30 to fold the bulletins for Sunday. Currently

I need TWO new people (man or woman) to complete two of

those teams. Also, I need a few as alternates that can be called

if someone can’t make it the day they are scheduled.

2. Office Help - I have a list of ladies that will cover the office when

I go on vacation or for a sick day. That list has had a few that

had to stop helping so I need a few new people to add to that list

so the ones currently on it won’t have to work as often.

If you are willing and available to be added to one or both of these

groups please give me a call at the office 432-4660.

Thanks, Donna

YOUTH & FAMILY SKATING PARTY

All Youth & their Families are invited to a fun afternoon of skating at Ogden Spinning Wheels on Saturday, Nov. 10, from, 2-4 pm paid by the Youth Department. Skate rentals are included, snacks will be provided. If you wish extra treats, you will need to bring your own money. Even if you don’t skate, COME watch and enjoy!

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Our church plays a very important part to our local food pantry, IMPACT, with our laundry soap and food donations. We also contribute soap to the Boone County Hospital Employee Pantry. Therefore, we will be having MONTHLY set days to give of ourselves.

—LAUNDRY SOAP MINISTRY: Soup Making Party EVERY 3rd Thursday of each month, 6:00 pm. ALL ARE WELCOME to come and visit and partake. The fellowship is amazing. The more the merrier, as we can trade places, working smarter not harder!

—FOOD DONATIONS: Pantry donations EVERY 3rd Sunday of each month. You may bring your items to Fellowship Hall and place on the table. This will help fill the pantry before the first of the next month.

Thanksgiving Blessings to you and your family
