T he Lord’s Prayer has been a part of my life (as it has yours) for a lifetime. I remember the many plaques and wall hangings that celebrated the message of the Lord’s Prayer in our lives. Each time I read or say the Lord’s Prayer it takes me back to a time and place when I recited the Prayer as a way to connect with other Christians or as a way to say a prayer when I could not find the words to pray. When was a time or place when you prayed that prayer? I remember being in a hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, when Connie and I were expecting our first baby. It was an exciting time. However, when the baby came early and was struggling for life, I was angry at God. “Here I am, God, going into the ministry and You, in return, are taking away my child.” I called out to God in the little chapel of the hospital. Where was God? I found God… but really, God found me. He found me in a prayer that I saw on the wall of the chapel. It was the words God was speaking through the Lord’s Prayer. At that moment they were just words, but in a revealing moment, I saw these words: “Thy will be done.” Whenever I pray the Lord’s Prayer and come to the words “Thy will be done,” I am transformed back to that chapel and to that phrase. It was so strange the peace that suddenly came over me. It was in that moment, a moment of surrender, that I took those words as my own. “Thy will be done” echoed in my head and brought peace to my heart. I knew the struggle of anger, the battle to surrender my will to God, and the peace that came beyond my understanding. It is so challenging when I find myself in situations where I need to let go and let God take it. But, it is in those moments, that I understand God’s faithfulness and promise of presence. I continue to confront “My and MINE” with “Thy will be done.” Like Jesus, those words become the center of my faith and ministry. Like Jesus, they shape my life and reflect the Jesus Way. This month, I am challenging myself and you to pray the Lord’s Prayer three times a day. To set your phone alarm with the message: “Our Father…Thy Will be Done.” Others may not understand that message, but God and I do. It breaks into my world at 8 AM, 2 PM and 10PM. Sometimes it breaks into my “challenges,” but sometimes it breaks into my “blessings.” I invite you to join me in preparing not just for a season of Thanksgiving, but a season of Thanks-Living! I discovered a real purpose and blessing in praying “Thy will be done.” I know a God with whom “all things are possible.” Test it out. That is why I am preaching on the Lord’s Prayer this month so that it will come alive in me and focus me as it did the Disciples and even Jesus. Try it: “Thy will be done.” Pray that over every challenging situation in your life and watch how Jesus runs to rescue and bless. For that, I give thanks. Go Be the Church! T he Administrative Board met via Zoom video conference on Wed., Oct. 13th at 6:00 pm. Rodney Altes, Bill & Theresa Berriman, Janice Gregerson, Carol Kimberley, Julie Warner, Bob Pease, Kevin & Jan Borts, Kent

& Dawn McKee, Jolene Brady, Chairman Bob & Barbara Leonard, and Pastor Phil were present. Pastor Phil opened the meeting with prayer. Theresa moved to accept last month’s secretarial report as printed in the church newsletter. Seconded by Carol. Motion passed. Treasurer Theresa presented the financial report for approval. Deposits totaled $#######. Debits totaled $#######. The balance on the checkbook statement was $####### as of September 30th. All accounts balanced. Motion to approve the financial report was seconded by Bob P. Approval given. Bill reported that the new AC/furnace system ran only 4 days on the AC and has now switched over to heating. It is much more efficient so we should notice a difference, although natural gas costs are expected to increase by 191% this winter. Bill & Theresa also shared that the church copier lease will be paid off next month which is one month ahead of schedule. This has been cleared with Farrar as well. We will look into purchasing a replacement all-in-one multi-function copier/ printer. Staples noted that their supply chain has been affected and shipments may be delayed by 3 weeks or more if a product is not in stock. Bill made the motion to look at different models of all-in-one printer/copiers and select and purchase one up to $600 in value. Motion seconded by Julie. Motion passed. Jolene shared that the updated scripture reader rotation list was emailed out. She has also put it in this next November church newsletter and it is posted on the church website. Theresa has updated the outdoor church message board with the new church times. Jolene also updated the website, Facebook listing, and the church newsletter. She will contact the Newton Daily News and the Jasper County Tribune to update their church listings as well. The church newsletter deadline is this coming Wed., Oct. 20th. Bill mentioned that Tamara Deaton will oversee the bell-ringing duties and help the kids (or those still “kids at heart”) if they wish to ring the bell on Sundays. Pastor said his new sermon series will be on the Lord’s Prayer and run for approx. the next 6 weeks. He will also lead a new book study on the “Miracles of Jesus,” which will be held both in-person at the church and also online. The study will run through Nov. 21st and also includes daily devotionals. Pastor will be sending out more information soon. Pastor also reported that the annual Charge Conference will take place on Sunday, Oct. 24th at 5:00 pm at the Newton UMC. Almost all of the paperwork has been completed and data will be submitted by or before the deadline. As previously discussed, the October monthly Local Mission Giving donation of $100.00 will be sent to the Salvation Army. November’s donation will go to the Food Pantry, and December’s donation will go to Hope Ministries. Bill moved that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Janice. All prayed “The Lord’s Prayer” together in closing.

Special Board Meeting Minutes - October 20, 2021 The Administrative Board met via Zoom video conference on Wed., Oct. 20th at 6:00 pm. Bill & Theresa Berriman, Carol Kimberley, Marilyn Matthews, Julie Warner, Kent McKee, Jolene Brady, Chairman Bob & Barbara Leonard, and Pastor Phil were present. Chairman Bob opened the meeting with prayer. Bill moved to accept Jeri Heffelfinger’s letter of resignation. Seconded by Kent. Motion passed. The proposed job description for Video/Sound Technician was previously sent out to board members. Since there are not volunteers available in the Mingo Congregation, the job listing will be opened up to the community first, and then to teenagers in school. The Colfax congregation might also have someone who would be interested in the position. The Newton school district teaches PowerPoint, but the Colfax school district teaches how to use Google Slides, although the two are very similar. Bill will continue to create the PowerPoint presentations for now. Pastor Phil will get him the information needed for the slides by Wednesday of each week. Bill made the motion to accept the job description as printed and post/advertise the job to the community first, then teenagers in Colfax and/or the Colfax & Farrar congregations. Seconded by Marilyn. Motion passed. The job will require approx 2-3 hours on Sunday mornings and perhaps 1 1/2 hours whenever a Bible or book study takes place, which includes members from all three congregations. Bill will work on getting the word out about the job to the community and visiting with some families in town with teenagers. The job will also be posted at City Hall and the Post Office. In other news, Theresa mentioned that she spoke with the pest control company and they will start back up on the regular routine. Bill mentioned that a member of the community called him and said he would like to participate in Trunk or Treat on Oct. 30th. Bill moved that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Marilyn.

Serving With A Heart Like Jesus Mingo United Methodist Church members did it again! They “Served with a Heart Like Jesus”! They brought in laundry soap, dish soap, liquid cleaner, cans of cleaner, packs of gloves, bars of soap, bottles of shampoo, deodorant, Band-Aids, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, washcloths, and hand towels, as well as a monetary donation. These items went with Jeri Ann and Luanne to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Pawnee, Illinois, on their recent trip. Jeri Ann and Luanne also took a personal donation of 195 yards of fabric that Jeri Ann had been “collecting” and needed to “share” with the sewing team at the Distribution Center. And congregation members had been bringing in plastic grocery bags where Jeri Ann then cut and rolled into PLARN for the Distribution Center to use and crochet into mats for the homeless. Mingo UMC will also be sending 30 Personal Dignity Kits to the Ingathering held at Greenfield, Iowa in November. These kits contain a hand towel, a bath wash cloth, a toothbrush, bar of soap, shampoo, and deodorant in a resealable plastic bag. They will also include a razor and toothpaste once received at the distribution site. Jeri Ann also made 27 school bags which will be filled at the distribution site by items that were purchased in bulk by those providing a monetary donation to assist in the mission. What a glorious way to serve our neighbors and Go Be The Church! Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Job well done, good and faithful servants!
