Thanksgiving Day is still a few weeks away, but it’s never too early to be thankful. The practice of being intentionally thankful brings with it a transformation of heart and mind and a deeper connec-tion with God. Unfortunately, we are far too good at going through our days, liv-ing lives that are full of things to give thanks for, but not be mind-ful of those things. We live as no generation before us but are all too prone to focus only on what we do not have.

When we begin to be intentional about looking around us and naming the things we are thankful for, a transformation happens in our hearts and minds and our lives become more joy-filled. We shouldn’t be too surprised by that. The 100th Psalm calls us to give thanks to God “for the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever.” And in giving thanks to the creator of “every good and perfect gift” (James 1:17, NIV) we find our connection with God

moving to the forefront of our minds. When we are more aware of God’s presence, we are more readily able to experience the depths of God’s grace.

This year rather than cramming all your thanks-giving into one day, try getting a 3x5 card, and writing one or two things you are thankful for on it every day. When the card gets full, and I bet it won’t take long, get another one. You’ll be glad you did.

Grace & Peace,

John Reasons Senior pastor

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

-- Psalm 100 (NRSV)
