The Pastor’s Corner

It has been good to be back with you and to see how God has worked, and contin-

ues to work, in your lives to bless the lives of others. I have heard stories about how

you cared for one another during the month of January with severe weather, and that is heartwarming to me. I heard about some members cutting fire wood for fel-

low church members, others fixing frozen pipes, a few transporting people to the hospital, or visiting members having surgery or those in nursing homes in Crossville.

You brought comfort to members who have lost loved ones by your visits, calls, cards, food and prayers. It just reminds me again of the importance of a church

family and how we are vital to one another in the family of God.

I also want to commend you for your financial support of the FGFBC ministry.

Through the month of January, 2014, we have contributed $924,069.32 in 145 weeks of giving toward our three-year commitment to building these new facilities to

the glory of God. Consider that in May, 2011, when we made our commitments we

pledged $823,700. I have never heard of a church family giving more to a building program than was pledged to the endeavor. I have heard of many elsewhere who

did not fulfill their pledges made during a building campaign. Continuing this rate of contributing to our building fund, this projects out to $994,171.13 for 156 weeks. If

this occurs, it means that we will have given somewhere around $175,000 more to

the building fund than we pledged in May, 2011, when we entered into “Gods Vision and Our Mission.” “To God Be the Glory” for the great things He has done,” through

you.

There is an interesting verse of scripture I want to call to your attention. Jesus said, “…use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourself, so that when it is gone, you will be

welcomed into eternal dwellings.” Luke 16:9. Jesus said money is to be “used.” We

are not to love it, serve it, or idolize it. We are to “use” it. What is the purpose of using our money? Jesus is saying that we are to use our money to help reach people

for Jesus Christ, so that when we get to heaven there will be people there who will say, “I am here because of you! I am your friend forever because you helped build a

church building, you helped finance a program, you helped reach me for Christ, you

bought a Bible, you shared a book…you used some of your money to spread the good news. As a result I am in heaven. I am your friend forever!”

As we consider our budget for 2014, it is a very clear map of what we believe God is

leading us to do in ministry during this year. It is our road map to help reach more people for Jesus Christ and to make some more “friends forever.” Did you realize

that we have increased our budget in 2014 from 2013 by 15 percent? I want to en-

courage you, if God leads you, to increase your giving to this year’s budget. Maybe God is leading you to give $1 or $10 or $20 more per week to support our ministry.

Whatever God leads you to give, be assured that He will bless it and multiply it to do extraordinary things through the life of our family of faith.

Again, it is great to be back with you and to see what God has in store for us in this incredible journey of faith, hope and love. For Debra and me, it is a joy to serve with

you in this ministry.

The Campaign Commitment Team… His Vision… Our Mission...

The giving to the building fund in January was $14,777.35. This brings our campaign total to $924,069.32. How awesome is that! We are on our way to hitting the 1 million dollar mark. The faithful giving from our church fam-ily has been overwhelming. We stepped out on faith at the beginning of this campaign with many people doubting what our God could do during such tough economic times. God blessed us with this beautiful building and con-

tinues to provide for all of us. Our 3 year com-mitment officially ends in May but we want to en-courage everyone to continue to give past that date. We still have a long way to go before the building is completely paid for. The graph below shows our progress over the past 6 months. Let’s keep those bars on the graph going up. We know with all of us working and praying together we will be able to accomplish His Vision...Our Mission. We are giving from the heart for God’s glory. Your commitment team members are Roger & Janie Fleming, Joe & Christina Boggio, Bob and Deb Carlson and Randy & Annette John-son.

3x3 DINNER FELLOWSHIP

It’s time to start having our dinner parties again. I’ll soon be putting together the groupings for our

Mar-Jun 2014 dinners. Please send me your email address to boggio@frontiernet.net to ensure I

have your latest information. If any non-members are interested in joining our fellowship, we have

two separate 3 couple groupings each year plus a fabulous Christmas party. During each 4 month

period (Mar-Jun and Jul-Oct), you have dinner with your teammates at least 3 times. You take

turns hosting and bringing side dishes. It doesn’t have to be a dinner – brunch, luncheon, picnic or

whatever makes your group happy is fine. If you have never participated and would like to try it

out, give me a call, Christina Boggio, at 931.707.9275 and we’ll get you started on your way to hav-

ing fun and fest, all in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Coming in March! The office will sending out e-mail blasts to let everyone know of upcoming events, changes in calendar items, prayer concerns and other little tidbits of in-terest. Every member of the church that has an email address on record will re-

ceive the e-mail. We hope that this will be helpful and informative!

An Investment that Promises Dividends

Cutting Utility Costs

Heating costs are taking a ‘big bite’ out of our Operating Budget. Of course, we expected the new buildings to require more gas and electricity, but not near the amount we have experienced. The primary culprit is natural gas, our heating fuel. Since the high gas bills of last winter, the Building Management Team and the Stewardship/Finance Committee have been looking for solutions. We have had meetings with TVA, an engineer that does energy audits, the architect and his design engineer, the HVAC subcontractor, and the General Contractor. Our investigation has revealed of number of issues: the number of doors, the higher price of gas on our side of I-40, windows needing sealing, the heat from stage lighting, the need for the congregation to be more energy conscious and the “big one”…the gale that invades the lobby when the front doors are opened. Thus, no one “silver bullet” was found. A broad range of approaches are needed. Much has already been done.

But the No.1 recommendation was an “air lock” (a partition with a second set of doors just inside the big wooden doors.) in the front lobby. Our architect drew up the plans and the Whittenburg Glass Company agreed to a price of $8,000 to do the complete job. And, at the January Quarterly Business meeting the church voted to move forward immediately.

How are we going to pay for to this addition to the Worship Center? Church families are asked to contribute what-

ever they can to cover the expense. If 80 families each give $100 the cost will be covered. If enough donations do

not come in, the church voted to use the monies given to the Building Fund to cover the cost. Together we can

quickly take care of this cost saving investment in the Lord’s work. Be sure to mark “glass doors” on the designation

line of your envelope.

DIVORCE CARE

It is not too late to become a part of the Divorce Care support group. Due to inclement weather cancella-tions we are still getting off the ground and would love to see anyone that might be hurting from separa-

tion or divorce. The tapes that are used for sharing have excellent information. You will hear are testimonies from people who have been down this road before, as well as professional

counselors. Topics such as anger, depression, loneliness, financial survival and many others areas that affect those

of us who have gone or are going through this process. Come on WEDNESDAY NIGHT at 6:00 p.m. and

meet others who can relate to your situation. Contact Paul or Kay Forsythe for more information at 287-0164.

Brotherhood….. Submitted by Randy Johnson

The annual Valentine breakfast was held on Saturday, February 8, and was a big success. We had a great

time, great food and great entertainment. I want to thank Sue Jay and Nancy Settles for the entertainment,

the ladies got a standing ovation! I also want to thank anyone who helped with set-up, cooking, door

prizes, clean up, selling tickets or any other aspect that helped make this breakfast a fun and entertaining

time. I want to give a special thanks to Tommy Harvey, Kroger Manager, who made a generous food dona-

tion to the Valentine breakfast. A special thank you to Katie Blaylock and the youth who not only served

but cleaned up. We raised over $1,000.00 and had 115 people attend. The next Brotherhood breakfast will

be on Saturday, March 8, 7:30 am. The speaker will be announced at a later date. Remember to live life to

the fullest praising God along the way. If you have any questions, please contact Randy Johnson, Brother-

There will be special events coming in the next few months. We hope you will be able to join

April 10th Spring Fling will be held at Fredonia Baptist Church 6:00 PM Emphasis Meeting on Compassion. A special

evening is planned with Aden Mathis of the Ronald McDonald House. Please bring Easter Basket items for the Ronald

McDonald House.

June 11th 10:30 AM Ecumenical Luncheon, with a performance by Peggy Miller who will be portraying Corrie ten

Boom in a special presentation. This will be a catered Luncheon

Memory Loss Care Group

Due to inclement weather the February meeting was cancelled. The speaker from Home Instead will be re-scheduled.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, 11:00 am; March 13 for the regular monthly meeting. The focus will be on exercise

which is very important for brain function. Exercise is necessary for the care giver as well as anyone facing cognitive

challenges. Clintina Simms, who has Advanced Exercise Certification for Seniors will be our speaker. She is teaching Special Silver Sneakers classes at the Discovery Center.

1:00 Monday & Thursday

Silver Sneaker Circuit for fit and active adults desiring Cardiovascular training as well as head to toe exercise using a

chair for support.

1:00 Tuesday & Friday

Silver Sneakers Classic is excellent for those who are new to exercise or have not worked out for a while.

These classes are Medicare approved if your supplement covers this program otherwise there is a charge. If you have questions, please contact Clintina Simms 456-8890. This complements our efforts of the Memory Loss

Care Group.

March Book Review:

Riven is the name of the book! "Riveting" describes its contents. The author, Jerry Jenkins, co-author of the Left Behind series, describes this novel as "the one he always wanted to write". Published in 2008 the narrative will stay with you long after you have fin-ished reading it. Riven tells parallel stories of an insecure and seemingly ineffective pastor and that of a young rebel born to horrible circumstances which set him on a downward spiral into a series of wrong and self destructive choices. Eventually the lives of these two characters in-tertwine and there is an explosion of God's grace and redemption poured out on both of them.

The following includes some of the items that jump out at me from these captivating pages: We are all very much affected by our background, upbringing, and the positive or nega-

tive messages that came our way during our formative years. Memorizing scripture should be a life-time process. These precious words indelibly im-

printed on our minds and hearts keep us from sin, and are our most effective tools in touching the lives of others.

Success in God's eyes is different from how we see it. As Samuel reminded Saul in the Old Testament, "Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks on the heart". High in God's valuation system is faithfulness to Him, humility as we asses our own im-portance and ministry, and a willingness to leave our personal comfort zones should He direct us to do so.

The most powerful message that imprinted itself on my mind is that NO ONE is outside of God's grace. It also affirms, as Jesus said, that he who is forgiven much also has the ability to love much.

The final image that takes my breath away is that of Christ on the cross. It has brought home to me as few other books I have read the vivid realization of the tremendous price Jesus paid when He died for your sins and mine. May we never be guilty of minimizing or trivializing or even just neglecting thinking about the immeasurable cost to God the Father as He, along with His Son, went about doing what was necessary to extend to us that "Amazing Grace" about which we often sing.

want. Our next yard sale will be late April or early May and we sell anything and every-thing you don’t want. We also take clothes of all sizes!

Peavine Care Center... This just a reminder that Peavine Care center is in need of cleaning products, toilet paper, paper towels and most of all, disposable diapers in all sizes. Please one package of toilet paper or paper towels would be greatly appreciated. It is

important to have both kleenex and hand sanitize, to keep sneezes and coughs covered and protect each other from

passing germs on, protecting both the teachers and students.

Most of its food comes thru “Second Harvest”, but they cannot purchase the above items, thus the donations.

The contribution box is outside the fellowship double doors, in a blue tote labeled PCC.

Mission Moments & Prayer Concerns for March….

March 2-9

Dr Benjamin Curry - Dr. Curry wept as he cried to God for healing. The surgeon’s prognosis had not been good. After two surgeries he thought he would never be able to preach again. Curry, a NAMB missionary began fasting and praying. During this time, his prayer life and faith became stronger than it had ever been.

Today, he is healed completely and serves as a pastor and church planter in a poverty-stricken community in Madison, Ohio. Many of the people who Curry ministers to are youth who are drug dealers or single par-ents as well as the homeless. He says the most rewarding aspect is seeing people latch on to the hope de-spite their circumstances and choose to follow Jesus.

Pray for the spiritual and physical growth of City Hope Church in Madison, Ohio. Also pray for Pastor Curry’s continued health and strength.

March 9-16

Eric Goodman is a church planter and pastor serving with his wife, Lori. Pray for their team as it officially launched CenterPoint Church in late 2013 in Kansas. Ask God to continue to bless them with grace and growth as they go forward. Pray for continued financial provision and support as the Goodmans follow God’s call to lead this church

March 16-23

Daniel Sluka passes a stack of chairs to a teenager who is helping break down the stage and chairs from their church service. Since their church plant, Lakepoint Church, is a mobile church, they must set up and take down each Sunday before and after services. Until serving at Lakepoint, Daniel says his only church experiences were at mega churches. My wife and I were comfortable in the big church setting, but felt called to try something different after seminary. So we are involved with NAMB in the infancy of starting a new church in Sterling Heights, MI. The best part is seeing the church grow through new baptisms in a region dominated by Roman Catholicism. Pray for Lakepoint Church as it seeks to share God’s love with the community around it and for God to soften the hearts of those in and around Detroit.

March 23-30

Dave Tate serves as a church strengthener by ministering to students in his church as well as helping the church develop a missions outreach. Our church in Nashua, New Hampshire is looking for opportunities for service and ministry in our town and beyond so that we become s sending church rather than a receiv-ing church. Opportunities abound in New England for sharing God’s love with a community with little to no evangelical witness. Pray for NAMB missionary, Dave Tate, that his church will have wisdom regarding their next steps for ministry.

A Note from Ed & Shirley Neville….

Too many times we as church members leave too much on our Pastors shoulders. We have a burden for children in our area that do not attend Sunday School and Church. Every time we go into the fellowship hall we can look out the windows and visualize a new education building.
