PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
This is the last newsletter for this term before the term holidays. With the holidays so close, I would like to remind everyone about the importance of staying safe and being seen on and around our roads. Either as a driver, a passenger, or as a pedestrian, we all must negotiate the road traffic environment on a daily basis. Children are especially vulnerable around vehicles and roads due to their size and capabilities. Take the opportunity to talk to your children to become safer road-users.
When walking with your children make sure you are using the school or pedestrian crossings rather than taking potentially unsafe shortcuts.
Talk about the importance of wearing seat belts and insist that everyone in the vehicle wears appropriate restraints for their age and size.
Point out rules of the road when driving.
Always demonstrate responsible and safe behaviours when driving, as a passenger or while walking anywhere around vehicles and roads. Remember children learn good habits from adults and we want to see everyone back for the beginning of Term 2 safe and well. Yesterday was our Italian Day celebration. We had pizza and gelato vans on site, a special whole school performance and Italian activities carried out in the grades. It was great to see students wear costumes or colours to represent the Italian culture. A special thank you to Ms Aloi for all of her planning and organisation, and the specialist team for their support to make this a very successful day. We say good bye to Mrs Margaret Connolly our long serving Leading Teacher. Mrs Connolly has been with us for 22 years, originally starting at the old Deer Park site on the corner of Ballarat Road. I would like to acknowledge Mrs Connolly’s dedication and great work with the children and teachers during her service at Cairnlea Park Primary. Mrs Connolly has been a valued member of staff by being a respected coach to teachers and a source of knowledge for all staff. On behalf of the Cairnlea Park Primary School Community, I wish her all the best in her retirement.
Parents in school yard after 9:00am
This is a special request asking parents to please leave the school yard by 9:00am in the morning. We have our grade 6 monitors closing the gates from 9:00am and we endeavour to have them back in their class as quickly as possible so they do not miss valuable learning time. Your assistance with this will be much appreciated. End of Term 1 Dismissal Time Please note that school will be dismissed at 2.30pm on Friday 5th April for the end of Term 1. Term 2 commences on Tuesday 23rd April. ANZAC Commemoration Assembly Next term on the first Wednesday back (24th April) we have our ANZAC Day Commemoration Assembly, all parents are invited to attend this very special assembly. This will begin at 2:30pm. Yours sincerely
Mark Mills,
Principal

Telstra Kids Grant We are delighted to announce our success in applying for a $1,200 grant from Telstra.
Telstra Kids helps kids thrive in their connected world. Our Telstra Kids grant will be used to transform our old computer lab into an up to date Maker Space where students can have access
to STEM activities such as robotics, 3D printing, coding and hand on activities. This will help students develop their problem solving skills in a technologically advanced world.
Huge thanks to Sneha Parkhi from Telstra, who is the referrer, for applying for the funding for us. We are very excited to share in the million dollars the Telstra Foundation provides each year to
help kids connect to a digital future.

EMERGENCY SNACKS AND LUNCHES FROM THE
CANTEEN
In the second half of last year there were many students having emergency snacks or
lunches from the canteen.
These emergency meals are for students who genuinely forget to order or bring their snack
or lunch from home. Students, in this case will be provided with an emergency snack or
lunch of either a vegemite or jam sandwich from the canteen.
An account will then be sent home to parents requesting payment of 50 cents for the snack
or $1 for the lunch provided which is to be paid back to the canteen the next day.
For students that receive these emergency meals and have spending money for the canteen,
their spending money will be used as payment for the outstanding amount.
Thank you.
