We would like to announce the current presidents of the Newberg Chapter of NW Steelheaders Sean Derry and Renee
Johnson:
During this time of change in leadership, we would like to take a brief moment of your time to introduce ourselves
and share our vision for this chapter. Our names are Renee Johnson and Sean Derry, we are married, live in
Sherwood, have two dogs we often call our sons. Renee works as a Medical Assistant and Clinical Care Coordinator
for Providence Medical Group and Sean is a Foreman for Cascade NW Construction.
Those are the jobs we work to support our true passion: Fishing. We fish over 100 days a year and you will often see
us on the rivers of Coastal Oregon and SW Washington. We concentrate most of fishing efforts on salmon, steelhead
and tuna but enjoy all types of fishing. We love to share this passion with others. We are very approachable on and
off the water and enjoy teaching others the techniques and methods that bring us success. Renee teaches women
specific classes from time to time at local fishing retailers.
We were previously members of the Molalla Chapter but switched to Newberg as it is much closer to home. Location
and our passion for fishing is what led us to the decision to accept the position of Co-Presidents of this chapter.
Our vision for the chapter is simple: Growth, but growth in many ways. We would like to grow our membership.
We would like to grow the amount of events we do as a chapter on and off the water. We would like to grow the
fishing knowledge and abilities of all members through guest speakers and shared knowledge among members. We
would like to grow our chapter’s connections in the fishing industry. We want growth in the feedback from members
on where they would like the chapter to head, what events they would like to see and what guest speakers they would
want to hear. We want to see growth in volunteer efforts. We want to see growth in each and every one of us on and
off the water.
Please take time to introduce yourself during the meetings and provide any feedback to us. We can also be reached at
the following e-mail addresses.
Sean: [email protected]
Renee: [email protected]
We are looking forward to an exciting and fun filled year!

Message from Executive Director of NW Steelheaders Bob Rees:
Governor Brown Maintains Support for Gillnet Lobbyist
The Association of Northwest Steelheaders remains committed to halting the confirmation of Salmon for
All lobbyist Bruce Buckmaster to the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission. Mr. Buckmaster has a
documented history of opposing sport opportunity on the Columbia River, including the changes necessary
to implement the Columbia River Policy shift that our organization worked so hard to implement with the
previous administration.
Despite our efforts to persuade Governor Brown what a bad idea this is, she remains committed to pushing
this appointment through the process, so we must stop this process in the state senate. We're asking you to
keep the pressure on so we can say we've done everything possible to maintain all that we've fought for.
Senate confirmation is scheduled for May 14! Call the office, 503-653-4176, or e-mail:
[email protected] so we can help schedule a face-to-face meeting with your senator on this
issue. If you're unable to meet your legislator in Salem in person, call their office NOW
(https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/FindYourLegislator/leg-districts.html?addr)
to express your displeasure with this appointment. Act now!
The Association is hopeful that the agency, Governor's office, Chair of the Commission, and legislators
will come together with us and other stakeholders to start the process of remedying these issues that we
believe are holding the agency back and compromising the health and well-being of Oregon's fish and
wildlife resources. Only then can we support this unprecedented fee increase.
Help make a positive change by attending the hearing with us in the Capitol Building at 8:30 a.m. May 14.
RSVP Bob Rees or call 503-812-9036 so we can work with you on how to best approach this hearing.
Your voice is critical!
