NCPA, founded in 1898, represents the interests of America's community pharmacists, including the owners of more than 23,000 independent community pharmacies.

Legislative Representation

NCPA helped form the community pharmacy caucuses in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives as well as introduce 3 major pieces of legislation

The Pharmacy Competition and Consumer Choice Act (S. 1058/H.R. 1971) which would help create fair standards for PBM audits and increase PBM transparency.

The Medicare Access to Diabetes Supplies Act (H.R. 1936), would exempt small pharmacies (less than 10) from the DME competitive bidding process.

The Preserving Our Hometown Independent Pharmacies Act of 2011 (H.R. 1946) would enhance the ability for independent community pharmacies to negotiate with PBM’s.

PBM Initiatives

• NCPA has undertaken a coordinated effort to actively oppose the merger between Express Scripts and Medco NCPA’s advocacy and grassroots efforts have resulted in a bipartisan

group of nearly 60 Senators and Representatives weighing in with the FTC to raise concerns about the merger

• We helped push back mandatory mail order programs with Regents Bank and BB&T Bank, maintaining access for tens of thousands of patients to community pharmacies.

• We provided NY with grassroots support and numerous letters to the governor, helping them pass their Anti-Mandatory Mail Order Bill.

Simplify My Meds

A turnkey adherence program developed for the exclusive use of NCPA members. The program provides NCPA members with the tools and training needed to help them implement a coordinated refill program in their pharmacy.
