Assignment Scenario

You are a new, small but ambitious video production company. You have been contracted by Wilberforce Colleges’ Performing Arts Department to produce a music video to one of the songs provided to form an aesthetic backdrop to several scenes within their version of  William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

You are going to produce a suitable music video for one of the tracks chosen in the list provided (see Track Choices on the BTEC National Front Page on Moodle). Your Music Video will be used to provide an ambience that will aid in the plays tapestry of 60’s related images. You can either follow a clear narrative structure (story) or a traditional mood driven video which is largely focused on the band, or a mixture of both. Your music video can be very sinister and serious or tongue in cheek.

The music video must (obviously) reflect the psychedelic nature of the performance itself. As this version of the play is relocated to the British ‘Swinging Sixties’ and the ‘Sixties Psychedelic US Scene’. Your music video must represent this era of Andy Warhol’s factory and free love, etc.

Many props reflecting this era will be provided to you and you will have limited access to the actors appearing in the performance twice a week at scheduled times, if you wish to use them.

Scenario: You are working for a small but ambitious production company that has been contracted to produce a short 2-3 minute zombie short film / sequence. Your short film should conform to all the usual codes and conventions used within the horror zombie film sub genre. Try to conform to all of the zombie sub genre conventions within this 2-3 minute scene.

You can choose to work individually or as part of a larger group (4 maximum). If you do choose to work in a group you must delegate responsibilities fairly (i.e.: - scriptwriter, camera person, editor, director, etc.). Witness statements are available for confirmation of equally distributed work, and observations will be made by teachers.

You must mix genres within your film so you show us a greater understanding of what is meant by the term hybrid/sub genre. Your film could start as a romantic comedy and then turn into a zombie horror film. You could even make a musical zombie film where the zombies give a little song and dance - Horror/musical.
